Started up #ableton last night to record my acoustic album...
Instead I spent an hour troubleshooting my #Focusrite 2i2 which is apparently hosed. Nothing changed but now the audio ins sound like hot garbage 😭

I just dodged a couple of bullets in the form of an impulse buy. It was between a Tascam DP006 (which would have been practical but dinky and annoying (menu divey), or a Zoom PS04, which would've been cool and funky and had tons of effects of varying usefulness, but uses SmartMedia (worth at *least* its weight in gold (and several times its storage density)) and only included a 32mb card... but I puttered long enough for a third option to come through, which is far more my speed...
A Fostex MR-8. More channels, more physical controls... and I mean, it looks cool as shit, so there's that lol. Oh also it uses Compact Flash, which is infinitely more palatable than SmartMedia.

Cooler today, so I managed to get a little bit done in the home studio. I tried out some weird vocal thing just saying dah-dum against my new project to get an idea of what sort of rhythm I want for the lyrics. It ended up sounding a little bit Pet Shop Boys in Left To My Own Devices! Which is an interesting turn of events.

It's already quite hot in the home studio today, I had planned to sketch out some vocal ideas for a project I'm currently working on, but I need to use a microphone to record ideas. Which means that I can't really use a fan to keep me cool, because the airflow is affecting the microphone signal into the recorder.
Day off it is then. If I can get up early enough tomorrow I might be able to do some stuff while it's still relatively cool and quiet.
