  22. OMG it's finally happened! Researchers at #UW have determined the cause of sea star wasting disease. This epidemic has been ravaging sunflower seastar populations for over a decade. Until now, it was hypothesized to be caused by a virus. They discovered that it is actually caused by the bacterium Vibrio pectenicida.

    As someone who has been following the latest research on this topic since the outbreak, I am beyond thrilled that they have discovered the pathogen behind this.
