Here is this week's #reading update:

  3. Set a more modest 12-book goal for this year because I was out of the mood for reading for a chunk of last year. Reached that tonight, so time to bump it up. #Books #ReadingProgress

  4. Book Tracker also provides the option to keep track of audiobooks. When viewing the details of a book, you can create a new reading status and select the "Time" option. Simply input the duration of the audiobook and start tracking your progress. #ReadingProgress #ReadingGoal #audiobook #book #BookTracker

  5. @wkfry I'm not sure if it'll be adopted over here in Australia when it's done (only some of our schools use Microsoft), but that sounds amazing!
My university tutors have made it pretty clear that one-on-one/small group interventions for struggling students are critical to fixing problems, and #ReadingProgress would certainly allow for more of that.

  6. @JshBet8 My biggest fear with #ReadingProgress is that it might be biased against students who are speaking their second language with an accent. I am thrilled to report that the software does a really great job and doesn't penalize students speaking with an uncommon accent!

It's amazing that we shipped this feature just as the pandemic hit and it was even more valuable for teachers!

  7. @JshBet8 In August, I started working on #ReadingProgress. This allows teachers to assign passages of text for students to read.

In the past, teachers used to have to take students out into the hall and ask them to read, and then manually grade them.

Now, AI kicks in automatically and tells students if they mispronounced words and allows them to practice words they struggled with.

  8. I don’t know why, but I never did an #Introduction post. So here it goes…
