@DavittoKun @landley Heck if I really were to force myself I could propably be fine with a tiny box (#Nettop or #Netbook) that just gets me somehow online similar to the #VT69 with a #Pi0W:

@DavittoKun @landley Granted, @Raspberry_Pi 's goals are different than mine and those goals are valid too.
You can't have #TechLiteracy by the masses if they never get #tech they can tinker and learn with...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1Dpz35HLOI#RaspberryPi basically dominate the #ARM & #ARM64-based SBC market because every competitior just solders some silicon on a board and thows it on the wall with neither good #Documentation nor #Support, letting customers to "fuck around and find out" instead, which is exciting for a few but a complete disregard to the value of time of the buyers for everyone who needs to make it go brrr.
There's a reason the #BananaPi0M2 was never scalped, because Software makes OSes and OSes make Hardware!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51OMXTElStMWhereas the #Pi0 / #Pi0W & #Pi0W2 - whilst being proprietary in nature, are easy to integrate and develop for with free, excellent documentation and a vendor that actually gives a shit!
Thus it would be stupid *NOT* to target their boards woth OS/1337!
https://github.com/OS-1337/OS1337/blob/main/docu/ideas/architectures.tsvSorry if I seem a bit nasty-worded...

@torproject @fdroidorg @tails
I mean at worst one could use like a @Raspberry_Pi #Pi0W or #Pi0W2 if not a #CM3(lite) and make it a #thicc and #chonky brick like a #phat #Iridium or classic #NokiaCommunicator...Ideally with like a good thumb-#keyboard and rugged case so it survives being flushed down the toilet...
#BonusPoints if it takes standard 18650 #LiIon / #LiPo or even 21700 #LiFePo4 cells...

But in the end it's a different scope.
OS/1337 aims to be the #Software-esque equivalent of "you want to build a gadget? Just shove a @Raspberry_Pi #Pi0W / #Pi0W2 in it!" and thus be the slate for other projects of mine and also a nice and versatile #rescue system that could be configured [ahead of time!] to [Reverse-]#SSH from a system, providing a cornerstone to build something like a #vendor-independent #LOM / #BMC to #upcycle older systems into #headless #servers!

@paulrickards I assume something based on the @Raspberry_Pi #PiPico / #RP2040 with a matching #Ethernet-HAT would be able to to it.
Espechally since that #uC is easy to obtain and relatively cheap (compared to a #Pi0 / #Pi0W which were used for the #DreamPi #Dialup adaptor and are still not widely available at #MSRP)...

@landley That being said the #Pi0W and #Pi0W2 can be run with batteries and there are HATs to do so.
But I giess we both agree that this is even less elegant than me shoving a Keyboard on a crappy smartphone m amd the only reason to target the #Pi0 is because code that runs on it will run on all other #RaspberryPi #SBCs and almost all clones with no changes.
Not optimal OFC, but it'll run...

Were the @[email protected] #Pi0W's not so much scalped ( @rpilocator existing should be evidence enough) I would've made a "what is the cheapest computer you can actually buy brand new" video on http://computing.alternative.yt long ago...

@sleepybisexual agreed...
I guess if you don't want to DIY some #smol #ChunkBook with a #Pi0W + #Powerbank, #Keyboard & #LCD then #Termux or #qemu amd some #linux image are the way to go...

@sleepybisexual OFC that makes sense and I'm shure that you would've already gotten yourself a @Raspberry_Pi #Pi0W if that was within budget...
I'd recommend checking out forums like #xdaDevelopers for #HowTos and #CustomROMs on how to get that done with your #A51...
But be cautious and make backups first and don't do it on a device you can't afford to brick...

@sleepybisexual Cuz the time andeffort needed to make such a mod and most likely end up with loss of functionality of said smartphone makes it rarely a feasible option.
Most people would be better off with a @[email protected] #Pi400 Kit or #Pi0W with #RaspberryPiOS or some #refurbisjed / #used #PC / #laptop with @ubuntu #UbuntuLTS or @bunsenlabs #BunsenLabsLinux or even @tails_live #Tails...

@sleepybisexual @fdroidorg Not shure if there's any good way to get some #linux going on a #GalaxyA51 without #rooting, #aftermarket-#firmware or similar...
Unless one's tight on budget or explicitly can't choose something different I'd recommend to go with a #Pi0W + screen and display or a #Pi400 kit instead if one wants a #UltraLowCost Linux #Desktop but doesn't have some #used #PC / #Laptop at hand one can convert to it nor access to #refurbishers that don't overcharge for old stuff...

@solaradmin Makes sense...
Personally I got a #StromPi2 HAT which can do 6-61V DC and alongside my #Pi0W is something I do plan to use for a "CarPC" if I ever get to it...

@Walrus @trashheap @Raspberry_Pi Personally, I got one as I wanted to evaluate it as replacement for a #Pi0W or even a faster #Pi0 with no need but it's HDMI, USB, microSD and cpmputational power compared to scalped #PiZero|s...
But then again the #PocketCrypto doesn't need any #GUI but just a #TUI...
