@DavittoKun @landley Heck if I really were to force myself I could propably be fine with a tiny box (#Nettop or #Netbook) that just gets me somehow online similar to the #VT69 with a #Pi0W:

@DavittoKun @landley Granted, @Raspberry_Pi 's goals are different than mine and those goals are valid too.
You can't have #TechLiteracy by the masses if they never get #tech they can tinker and learn with...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1Dpz35HLOI#RaspberryPi basically dominate the #ARM & #ARM64-based SBC market because every competitior just solders some silicon on a board and thows it on the wall with neither good #Documentation nor #Support, letting customers to "fuck around and find out" instead, which is exciting for a few but a complete disregard to the value of time of the buyers for everyone who needs to make it go brrr.
There's a reason the #BananaPi0M2 was never scalped, because Software makes OSes and OSes make Hardware!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51OMXTElStMWhereas the #Pi0 / #Pi0W & #Pi0W2 - whilst being proprietary in nature, are easy to integrate and develop for with free, excellent documentation and a vendor that actually gives a shit!
Thus it would be stupid *NOT* to target their boards woth OS/1337!
https://github.com/OS-1337/OS1337/blob/main/docu/ideas/architectures.tsvSorry if I seem a bit nasty-worded...

@paulrickards I assume something based on the @[email protected] #PiPico / #RP2040 with a matching #Ethernet-HAT would be able to to it.
Espechally since that #uC is easy to obtain and relatively cheap (compared to a #Pi0 / #Pi0W which were used for the #DreamPi #Dialup adaptor and are still not widely available at #MSRP)...

@sleepybisexual OFC that makes sense and I'm shure that you would've already gotten yourself a @[email protected] #Pi0W if that was within budget...
I'd recommend checking out forums like #xdaDevelopers for #HowTos and #CustomROMs on how to get that done with your #A51...
But be cautious and make backups first and don't do it on a device you can't afford to brick...

@cloudyc Yeah, or one of those that barely function [i.e. #BananaPi #BPi0M2 which spec-wise should wipe the floor with @[email protected]'s #Pi0W but don't even support anything but 720p60 output!]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51OMXTElStMLet's just say I'd not trust an #SBC where the only supported images are on some MEGA.nz or GoogleDrive / box.com accounts and the documentation doesn't even specify how to reproducibly build a minimal Linux for it.

@chksome Or maybe
@geerlingguy works professionally with
@[email protected] SoC's...After all, #RaspberryPi #CM4's are extremely common since they have what all their #clones and #competitors lack:
EXCELLENT DOCUMENTATION!
Even if the #BananaPi #BPi0M2 should wipe the floor with the #Pi0W / #Pi0 even #IT professors can't get it to work in any other mode than 720p60...

I did this first. Still pondering longer term projects..

@[email protected] thx but I'm still figuring out how to get the #BananaPiZeroM2 #BPi0M2 working as a drop-in replacement for the @[email protected] #Pi0W & #Pi0 since #RaspberryPi seems more unwilling than unable to get units sold via their distributors at #MSRP.
Cuz the scalpers charge €60+ for a #Pi0W and €120+ for a #Pi0 v1.3 when both are actually €10 and €5 MSRP.
Industrial customers however seem to get double-digit numbers at MSRP just fine...

:boost_ok: #FollowerPower: Does anyone know a #distributor that actually sells @[email protected] / #RaspberryPi #PiZero v1.3 / #Pi0 1.3 (NOT #Pi0W / #Pi0W2!) at #MSRP or at least not beyond 300% of it?
Cuz all I see are shitty #scammers and #ValueRemoving #rentseekers aka. [unofficial!] "#resellers" that charge 1.000% - >2.000% of the MSRP and they seem to #bot all the shops empty.
Like it's worse than with the #PS5 & #XboxSeriesX, and that's already shit.

The #BananaPiZeroM2 on paper should basically run laps around the @[email protected] #Pi0 & #Pi0W but it doesn't even allow anything but 720p60 on HDMI...
#Software makes #OperatingSystems and Operating Systems make #Hardware
THIS is why the #RaspberryPi owns the market...

@B_Whitewind @rpilocator @[email protected] that being said the #BananaPiZeroM2 really lacks in terms of #software #support & #documentation as well as #aftermarket - something the #Pi0 / #Pi0W inevitably will have an edge above it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51OMXTElStM
But I really should make a "bottom - of - the - barrel" PC build.

@B_Whitewind @rpilocator Personally, I did make the "cheapest PC you can buy / build new challenge" with a @[email protected] #Pi0W before it was getting scalped >>€100 , so instead I chose to go with a #BananaPi #BPi0M2 instead, which also has the advantage of a U.FL connector onboard and eben 10/100-Base-T (half-duplex) via some pins.
Sparing me the bottom-mounting USB-Hub+Ethernet with PoE adapters and instead a cheaper, pasive PoE adaptor.

#Pi0W & #BananaPi #BPi0M2... staclable...

@k3vk4 @devinprater I'm not familiar with #Pi0W - what's that?
