Finally managed to get a barely working #Matter setup by using a Ukranian #Smlight MR1U, which has radios for both #Zigbee and #Thread. Very cool device which can be freely flashed with plenty of firmwares and powered by either PoE or USB.
Sadly my #HomeAssistant installation on a #Pi400 refused to detect the device via USB. Moved the sd card to a #Pi4 and it got detected right away. Huh.
After messing with the outdated Python Matter Server I got a single #Kajplats bulb working, all other Matter devices refuse to connect. 😂 Well, at least it's a star of something.
Or I just stop wasting my time now and move on to Zigbee for now. 😮💨

On the good-news/bad-news side, I got the #Pi400 running #yunohost and set-up two sub-domains on .local tld installing #friendica on one and #pixelfed on the other.
I can hit both services (locally) and get login screens for both but neither will permit a login or new account creation.
I think I have to set-up an email service, internally first, before new registrations will work so I'm going to detour and handle that instead.
Pitter patter.

Nice @dingemansemark ! This upcoming new 15,6” Pi monitor would have truly complemented it 🙃 .
I an curious what choice you will make once V is going to get a smartphone ;-]

I guess #Python tries to be the modern #BASIC and the #RaspberryPi #Pi400 tries to be the modern #ZXspectrum but even then the comparison falls flat because outside of #Linux distros, most OSes don't come with a preinstalled Python interpreter - espechally not #macOS & #Windows, so we don't get that cohesion.
#JavaScript and #WebDevelopment - espechally on the #FrontEnd - kinda went overly complex, thus #JS failed to become a mass-adopted languague outside of bloated "#WebApps" that literally ship a whole #Chromium (like #nwjs / https://nwjs.io ) and turn something that should've been measured in Kilobytes if maybe a few Megabytes into hundreds of Megabytes if not Gigabytes of #bloat to be shoved onto a device…
And whilst one can shim that down significantly by relying on #WebView as #API...
https://f-droid.org/packages/de.monocles.browser/...This comes with the can of worms that is #Android #Updates and #Security Patches for devices...
https://docs.monocles.eu/browser.app/#security_issues...which have an absurdly short lifecycle (usually less than 2 years, #Fairphone being one of the few exception!) given flagship smartphones being solid in the 4-digit territory, when equally or cheaper priced business laptops get 3 - 5+ support...
The abundance of computing resources like bandwith, storage, RAM and CPU sadly have resulted in increased #Enshittification, where things feel slower and less responsive than previous versions in spite of sometimes exponentially more resources at hand.
In many cases a lot if developments feel like regressions in terms of UI, UX and overall efficiency, and we see the digital equivalent of #SuperUselessVehicles being made...
That's not the fault of JS - a language isn't a sentient being nor being responsible for even existing - but ut's like introducing alcohol to someone who had never drank anything by giving them a double shot of Absynthé: It ruins it for them...

Last year I got a #Pi400 from my spouse as a birthday present. It's such a fantastic little #RISCOS machine. Running it natively and maybe the last generation of #ARM machines that does? Now with 64bit only Pi5 etc.
Anyhow. I need to explore this OS more and especially BBC Basic which is built in.
Is there any recommended software like particularly good IDE etc. for #BBCBasic on RISCOS that I should use?

Lieber Herbert @DigitalWriter ,
@BorrisInABox I'm curious to see what running a #GUI on one of those things is like. The #pi400 just barely manages to be usable.

The keyboard layout on Raspberry Pi OS defaults to UK for newly added users, also if the first account has another one set. Changing it for the new user won’t stick until you add that user to the sudoers group. #raspberrypi #keyboard #pi400

@dashdsrdash @arichtman
I have a hp T620 in use for that purpose and it's fine.I shoved in a cheap M.2 and connected a spare drive via USB 3.0 and now it does backups and archival duty for less than a @[email protected] #Pi4B4GB or #Pi400 would've cost me #MSRP!
It's also fanless and barely sips 10W when under full blast as 80% of the case is just a giant-ass heatsink that is bigger than a flattened-out Noctua NH-D15!

@trashheap same.
The only winning move is to refuse to buy a @[email protected] above #MSRP!
Not that the #Greedflation hasn't impacted those as well.
The only #RaspberryPi that was constantly available was the #Pi400 and that jumped from €99 in 2021 to €130 in 2023 for the Kit and €75 to €100 for the bare unit.

Partnering with https://www.PCBWay.com
In our latest video we look at how you really can run the latest #64bit #Windows11 build natively on a #raspberrypi #pi400!
Thanks to the #tiny11a64 ISO image the process is now much easier than before.

@[email protected] maybe then there will be #Pi400+ using a #CM4 socket supporting CL4 & #CM4Lite compatible SBCs.
Personally I thought about getting a #CM4LiteW8GB with a feckton of accessories into a modded #Unicomp #PC122 case to make it a #C64Maxi / #Amiga500 - alike "breadbin" PC...
Cuz that would be cool...

Masa!
No dobra, obejrzyjcie film:
