  1. Hacked #mnDot sign, east bound 494 about 1/2 mile before the Bush Lake Road exit. Couldn’t get a picture.

Guessing this is NOT the construction message intended:

  3. Why did the weekend of 94 Westbound being CLOSED from 694 to 35E end up being the weekend we had events in MINNEAPOLIS *THREE* separate (non-sequential) times???

So many extra miles driven and traffic sat in. We did get to try every alternate route…

  8. The Our Streets crew really packed the room at the MnDOT meeting today. About a hundred people in total, with fifty arriving by bike. Bike parking overflowed, so nearby fences were commandeered for the cause. We had a brief rally outside the building before going inside.

I was one of the first people into the room. One of the MnDOT folks asked me how many people we had - their eyes bulged a bit when I said about a hundred.

MnDOT was very polite and I felt like they heard the words I was speaking, even if they didn't seem to be listening. Our ask is a simple one - don't eliminate the at-grade options for I-94 at this point in the project; advance those options to conduct a more comprehensive study.

With a hundred of us and so few of them, we really just took over the room. I spent more time chatting with other attendees about urbanism. Met a student studying urban design. Met someone else working on designing rail networks in Minnesota. Biked back to Minneapolis with a software engineer I met.

I'll end by paraphrasing one of the best lines from the rally:

People ask where the cars will go. But did MnDOT ask where people would go before it paved over their homes? No! Did MnDOT ask where kids would play? No! Did MnDOT ask where the elderly would walk without endangering their health? No!

  9. We signed an open letter to the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Governor Tim Walz requesting that at-grade options for the "Rethinking i-94" project are reinstated.

We're headquartere not far from the i-94 corridor in Saint Paul. Our entire Twin Cities-based team lives along or near the i-94 corridor in the areas affected by MNDOT's plans. We believe strongly that the at-grade options are the best choice for the communities we're in, as they provide better access to transit and better bikeability along the corridor, while retaining the higher speed artery that those who drive have come to rely on.

This is part of our continuing dedication to be involved with the communities where we work and live.

If you also live in the Twin Cities, please consider reading the letter and learning more about Rethinking i-94, it'll seriously affect the neighborhood cores of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

  11. Do #Highway On-Ramp Meters Actually Work? #Minneapolis Turned Them All Off To Find Out
For about six weeks, the #Minnesota Department of Transportation collected as much data as possible on traffic flow. If you could measure it or record it, they probably did. Then, on October 16, #MnDOT turned up that Christina Aguilera, temporarily switched off all 430 ramp meters, and got back to measuring and recording every variable it could.
The end result: ramp meters work.

  15. Meanwhile #Minneapolis #Public #Housing #Authority (MPHA) hasn't faced so much as a tent on the acres they are withholding from providing stable housing (whether built by them or allowing people to make self-built #houses

And the #Minnesota #Department of #Transportation (#MNDOT) is a prime #displacer right now, hand-in-hand with Frey's goons kicking people off another stretch of South Minneapolis #roadside every other day. #MetroTransit's unused land and their #police are never far away.

  17. That same #MNDoT the #Minnesota department of transportation is probably responsible for displacement happening right now like they have been repeatedly nearly every week targeting mostly #unhoused #Native people:

  18. @tanquist

Can you ask any people from #MNDOT there about their repeated policy of nearly-no-notice destruction of camps at the behest of Minneapolis city government?

If we can be shoved out of sight when we lose our #housing it's hard to believe enough affordable housing will ever be made available.

  20. And #MNDoT in its zeal to stop the Wall of Forgotten Natives from ever returning to remind that #Native Lives Matter has kept the bike path next to the Little Earth community, named after the Little Earth community, permanently closed.

  22. @Zeke No, this is not until next week! Lots of time for people to help defend/delay, find places to / help move, protest / raise awareness — the works. I was still visiting there a couple hours ago. Squad cars must have been something else, and probably not a camp at all as far as i know— although Parks cops and unknown private parties destroyed one by an empty Taco Bell last night and #MNDOT plans to destroy another camp tomorrow morning.

  24. This in a city that has the infamously murderous MPD not dismantled or defunded one whit except that being a cop is so unpopular they can't recruit; that has a separate Parks Police, Metro Transit police, county sheriff deputies, the school district recruiting ex-cops to replace MPD in schools, the #Minnesota State Police actively involved, #MNDOT bringing their own private contractors to remove unhoused people from unused land, and tons of private security (like CRG: unicornriot.ninja/2021/private )

  30. Please turn up before 9am if you can. If it is like last time, #MNDOT will be carrying water for mayor #JacobFrey and his local propertied oligarchs by initiating this, but the notoriously murderous #MPD will be providing much of the intimidation.

  32. Holy hell, while the eviction was going on today the #Minnesota Interagency Council on #Homelessness had their monthly webinar: "Statewide Updates on COVID-19 and Homelessness" and somehow i missed it. Note that #MNDOT is one of the agencies on this council.

You can ask #MNDOT ombudsman James Skoog at office number 651 366 3534 or e-mail [email protected] if he can find out who is responsible for this life-threatening decision.
