  8. The Windows Photos app’s new Generative erase feature can remove unwanted items from a picture

Microsoft is rolling out its answer to Google’s Magic Eraser, which uses AI to let you remove unwanted people or objects from photos.
The Windows version is called Generative erase, and rolling out to the Windows Photos app for members of the Windows Insider preview program. It should eventually make it way to stable versions of Windows 10 […]

  9. #AI #GenerativeAI #Smartphones #Google #MagicEraser #PhotoEditing: "Google’s latest Pixel phones, the ad wants you to know, come standard with a suite of new generative-AI photo-editing tools. With a few taps, you can move people around in the frame like the mom does with her son, or use the “Magic Eraser” to get rid of a pesky photobomber. “Best Take,” a feature that snaps a bunch of images at once and isolates each person’s face, allows you to merge photos so that everyone appears to be perfectly looking at the camera at the same time. Combined, these features mostly reflect the photographer’s intent at the time of capture. But is the end result … real?

Of course, there’s nothing particularly scandalous about editing a family photo. Anyone sufficiently trained in Photoshop has been able to do something similar for decades; likewise, smartphones and photo apps have long offered the ability to touch up a picture until it’s transformed, even “yassified.” Yet tools like Magic Editor will likely soon become standard across devices, making it dramatically easier to perfect our photos—and thus to gently rewrite small details from our lives."

    Hi Tor Project,

Thanks for your continued work. We would like to bring to the fore a few ideas.

    a) Have TorProject considered a 'Page not working?!' button in Tor Browser? It could have an exclaimation and question mark [!?] icon. We think it could allow Tor Browser to **default** to Safest Mode. When a person presses the button they get a set of ordered options:

    TorBrowser. Safest mode. Done.

If your bank doesn't like it make them process and read your cheques with vibrant outspokemn words in the signature area.

A week or so ago we suggested a #MagicWand and #MagicEraser for Tor Browser to show or hide, respectively, different page elements without the need for javascript, or fiddling with the source HTML/CSS.

  16. Would you like a MagicEraser and Wand in #TorBrowser.

The #magicEraser would make an annoying popup disappear without the need for javascript. The #magicWand would make 'opacity:0' and 'display:none' elements appear.

    Poof!

Would you find this useful while using TorBrowser?

  18. This is such a great piece about photos, memories, and using AI to remove unwanted strangers from your smartphone photos.

Couple of photographer friends have been playing with Adobe's AI tools and adding sections of track, removing camera gantries, and other odds and ends. We are entering an era where reality is no longer recorded accurately.

  25. Google introduced its Magic Eraser feature with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, and it made a huge splash because it made it easier to remove uninvited guests and objects from images. Google wasn't the first or only one to bring an object-erasing functionality at that time, though. Samsung launched a similar feature called Object Eraser with the Galaxy S21 the same year, and Adobe Photoshop has been able to do it for many years. Google's clever implementation on the software front made it look almost like magic, but is Google's tool to remove photo bombers actually the best one out there?

Largely, your choice may be determined by whether you have a Pixel phone (or Google One subscription on any phone) or Samsung flagship phone. I have both, so this was of interest to me to see which one have the edge. It does appear that one does a slightly cleaner job of erasing, though.

There are also other third-party apps out there that do object erasing, but these were not evaluated in this review. But bear in mind, like moon shots, this is "faking" the photo.

  31. I *love* the #MagicEraser in my Pixel and its ability to remove distractions from photos.

But I also wonder if it's healthy that our drive to make a picture "More perfect" involves erasing all the other humans from it except the ones we care about.
