  1. Anyone else in #Portland having weird mobile Internet coverage? We are on #GoogleFi (because traditionally it has had the best coverage from multiple carriers) and it has only been connecting to LTE instead of 5G for the past day.

  6. Look, I know, #Google is evil, but sometimes they do the right thing.
There was recently a #GoogleFi service outage affecting some customers for hours. Judging from the service credit on my bill today, it appears that they proactively identified every customer who was affected and gave each of them a $20 service credit to compensate them for the outage. For us that's nearly half of our per-person monthly charge.
That's a decent thing to do.

  7. ok AND the Profiles feature on #GrapheneOS apparently means i have to set up #GoogleFi for each profile independently? 😒

  8. #TechIsShitDispatch
#Google has just announced that in their infinite wisdom the way they are going to support RCS messaging for #GoogleFi customers is by killing yet another product, Google Fi's message sync to web. By February 2026, all Google Fi customers have to turn off message sync and switch to the version of Google's #MessagesForWeb that synchronizes with your phone in real-time.
    Reasons why this sucks: (1/5)

  9. Engadget: Google Fi will start using AI to make calls sound better. “Google just announced several updates for its digital telecom provider, Google Fi. It’s introducing AI-enhanced audio for better sound quality during calls.”

  10. Say goodbye to "Can you hear me now?" Google Fi is rolling out AI to make your calls sound better, along with HD calling, auto Wi-Fi connect, and secure VPN for all communications. Even Gemini is joining the party for bill summaries.

Is this the future of mobile carriers, or just a new way to listen to my own echo?

  11. So, I can't use #GoogleFi with #GrapheneOS without having to install the #GooglePlayStore.

Actually, I wonder now that I have the phone reactivated, could I wipe the phone again and still have the service activated.

If not, I at least know how to "fix" the problem, but I may need to switch carriers.

This also means I might be stuck on my 6a for a bit longer than I want to be.

  12. Lilbits: Snapdragon X Chromebooks, Pixel 7a battery swelling, and a Liberux NEXX Linux phone progress update

Earlier this year the folks at Liberux announced plans to build a Linux smartphone that combines the kind of features you’d expect from a modern phone with the hardware you’d expect from a pretty good single-board computer. The Liberux NEXX is expected to have a RK3588s Processor, a 6.34 inch, 2400 x 1080 pixel OLED display, 32GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, along with dual USB 3.1 Type-C […]

  16. Google lakkauttaa maakohtaiset sivustonsa, eli myös suomalaisille tuttu google-piste-fi lopetetaan

Jatkossa kaikki liikenne ohjataan Googlen keskitettyyn .com -osoitteeseen.

19. Anyone knows of a good alternative to #GoogleFi.

I've grown rather fond of its use of my Wi-Fi when I'm home, which is 95% of the time. I'm also fond of the call screening feature.

  20. With #Google donating $1 million to #Trump's inauguration fund, I'm going to start by not giving them my money and trying as best I can to not let them make money nor collect data on me. It's going to be inconvenient, but fascism is convenient.

  21. Why does Fi default to notifying me about data usage? I have unlimited data; the whole point of which is not to have to care about my data usage.
This is the same vibes as those toxic companies with "unlimited PTO," that then give you the side-eye when you try to use your PTO.

  22. "Google, a major proponent of Apple adopting RCS, confirmed to Ars that Google Fi, its own MVNO cellular service, does not, as of this writing, offer RCS chat for iPhone users on Fi messaging with Android users."

"Reading between the lines, you might conclude that Google is waiting on Apple to enable RCS on a network-by-network basis, both for Fi and for Android users at large. And a Google spokesperson would suggest that is correct."

  23. howtogeek.com/what-network-doe

Google-Fi started out using: T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular.

Since then things have changed, with the T-Mobile buyout of sprint, switching became less important, and Google-Fi now relies pretty much entirely on the T-Mobile network, having dropped US Cellular in 2023.

I've personally had a great experience with the service over the past decade-ish of use. But I was unaware of the change to the network compared to when I signed up.

  24. I pinged Google Fi support to find out why my phone didn't work in Canada — despite being on a plan with allegedly unlimited international service — and their response was essentially, "Your plan supports coverage in Canada. Please contact us next time you're in Canada to troubleshoot the issue."

On my phone. That doesn't work in Canada. 🙄

Has anyone ever had, and fixed, this issue? We were in Vancouver, and it stopped working as soon as we crossed the border.

  25. Ordered a Pixel Fold (Google Fi version) got a Pixel Fold (Verizon version). Google Fi support thinks I'm looking at pictures of phones online and sending it to the. When I'm asking if there is any difference in the images initially flashed to Verizon a d Google Fi versions that I need to worry about. I even said if they can point me to the Fi or unlocked image, I would be more than willing to flash it myself.

Google's tech support on all sides feels abysmal.

    #googlefi #googlestore

  26. Bonus points: the aforementioned #GoogleFi cross-device messaging stopped working because I bought a new phone and it's stuck on "Syncing your #Hangouts conversations".

#Hangouts has been dead for years. I don't know what it's even trying to do.

  27. Hey to my Google Fi friends, I have a friend that has a Galaxy A14 5G on Fi and has WiFi Calling enabled in the Fi app.

However in the Phone app in settings it doesn’t show the WiFi Calling option to enable/disable. The system software & carrier settings are all up to date and searching for it in the main Settings page comes up snake eyes as well.

Am I missing anything else to try to get this to work/show up as a option?

#Google "opted you in" to sell your phone-call and purchase info to advertisers via what they call your #CPNI — your "Customer Proprietary Network Information". Their emailed notice is easy to overlook as just another policy update that you have little choice but to accept. You have a choice!

Opt out at fi.google.com/account, go to "Privacy & security", and deselect "Allow CPNI sharing".

You have to do it in a browser; they don't let you do it in the Fi app.
