  1. I hope traditional roguelike fans who follow me here have been following the progress I've boosted here and there about @josemachete79's ZAngband variant 'ZMAngband' he's been working on based on the original red box D&D rules.

Go to jose-machete.itch.io/zmangband and grab a copy to try out yourself - it's a blast!

  2. Just grabbed the Play for Peace - Games for Palestine 2025 Charity Bundle. It has 382 games from 248 creators for just $8, and they've raised over $14k so far. The bundle has cozy narrative sims, meditative adventures, action games, visual novel tools, experimental sims, an RPG about being a cow, and much more: itch.io/b/2979/play-for-peace-

  3. Tonight I've been playing this game on my new cheapie tablet -- the Android version of this great game I stumbled across on itch, Dungeon Crawler on Demand. It's a blast. It's a simple dungeon crawler and it autobattles, but you have choices as to where to go, what to choose, and what to equip.

  4. 'What if OutRun came to the Game Boy Color', the demo/prototype of OutRun that Shane McCafferty (EGVRoom) made for the GBC or the Analogue Pocket, is now available to download or to run in browser at rocketshippark.itch.io/what-if

  5. I found two amazing games (well, a game 'concept' or two). Joking with @skullvalanche about dating sims (NON x rated) with like, just realistic animals, and I actually FOUND two.

🐦 On The Fly is an endless runner/dating sim - two birds, their love forbidden by their families, escape down a river on a kettle.

🐬 Vaporwhale: Hot Date involves you being Leonard, an orca looking for love. You make a Fin-der account, meet Tiffany, a dolphin, and keep up with the conversation by collecting her talking bubbles on your first date.

  6. Playing this game on itch tonight, just from browser on a laptop with an Xbox controller. Really a blast. 3D procedurally generated FPS dungeon crawler called Trial of the Sorcerer.

  7. Here's another cool one - it's called Bullet Bunny. It's VERY tough to get too far (at least for me). It has an upgrade system as you play, with choices for buffs, Brotato style-- you're a bunny fighting off nasties. It says download, but the only download is for an old APK (Android). But luckily, it plays well in browser using an Xbox controller. Top right button shoots, but it's cool. Gonna try and get better at it- better strategies, choosing the right buffs, etc.

  8. This one's a blast. Rewinder is a game made for a jam where you're tied to a tether for a portal and you're shooting your way across a strange dimension to rescue your daughter. You can upgrade your gun and you're setting up nodes along the way-- it's cool as hell. You can download it for Windows or play it in browser, as I am. I should also mention I have an Xbox controller plugged in and I'm using that for these. Ones I mention here will have controller support- I dig that.

  9. Playing some strange twin stick shooters/roguelikes on itch today. The first one I tried is called 'Holding Out' (you can download for Windows or play in browser as I am from this Linux laptop) and it's a shooter where you're some kind of weird creature, fending off other weird creatures that have been turned to zombies-- but you're also stuck in a warehouse and waiting on hold for help and for more supplies. Hilarious and stressful.

  10. Played some of @dardasaba's cool new game Frozen Fractals - kind of an avoid-em-up bullet hell. Your fellow bears have been imprisoned, and the game has unique mechanics where you have to avoid getting damage as a timer ticks down to open the passage to go to the next stage.

Frozen Fractals is on itch.io, it works on both Windows and Linux. Also, it's fully controller supported (I tested both systems with controllers, and it works great). It's only $3, too. Check it: dardasaba.itch.io/frozen-fract

  11. Trying out GodoRogue tonight. It's great! You can use the keyboard commands or mouse directly to different locations, how you can see in the screenshot - the yellow line. And you can play this one in-browser. It was made in HTML5!

  12. Played a little rogue560 (icegoat9.itch.io/rogue560) tonight - actually ran great via Firefox on my S21.

rogue560 was made by @icegoat and it's pretty wild. Made for TweetJam 7 in 2021, it is a pico-8 game in just two tweets (560 characters) of code!

    Here's their description of it:

Explore randomly-generated dungeons trying to get the highest score/health, or reach the deepest level

The game is decidedly unfair in that it can randomly generate unbeatable levels that will end your run (you can always refresh and start over), but using challenging diagonal moves (hit two arrow keys at ~exactly the same time) can get you out of many tight spots.

  13. Slartboz

posted a DevLog on Itch.io to ensure the viewers there have the links to the rest of the project's online presence:
    synystrongames.itch.io/slartbo

I wont delete the Slartboz profile on Itch.io -- always a chance some eyeballs come in from it, however slim. But I will no longer update it or post new content there.

Why? Because all that site and their supposed "users" do is take, and flake, never give. One big time drain to date. I'm done with them.

  14. Just realized I had Quest of Dungeons for Android from an itch bundle I grabbed a long time ago and I fear I may never get anything done ever again. 🤣 I have it on Switch, Xbox, and now, the QoD is in my pocket..

  15. I realized today that when I lost Twitter, I also lost a lot of the cool indie game devs I was following there (and the updates on their games). And that totally sucks, because I really love to play indie games. Apparently Twitter was my main source for discovering them (sheesh).

Below is a pretty big list of games (with links to them!) that I'm looking forward to. There are SO MANY games on my Steam wishlist that are still being worked on and upcoming (some of these are on itch also, and some have alphas, betas, and demos, I've noted which).

Some of these games are definitely coming later this year, and fingers crossed for maybe full releases of the rest in 2024?

  16. I played a bunch of in-browser games at itch.io tonight, and I'm currently hooked on this one. It's called Hellscaper, and they describe it as an "occult tiling deckbuilder roguelike". It's fascinating.

Below are two screenshots, one from when you reach 80 points and get to continue, and then one from the next part (I will probably die soon, and wanted to get a still before I did). It's rad. It's tough. I'll probably need to watch a video on it to get tips.

  17. I've gathered together a collection on itch.io of 20+ cool indie games (mostly roguelikes) that you can play in-browser here: itch.io/c/3248131/in-browser

I've been playing a few tonight.

Attached here is a still from the adorable Dahla's Journey (kryptopixel.itch.io/dahlas-jou).
