Today I looked it up and I am convinced: #StarFox is a #shmup.
In both #StarFox and classic #ShootEmUps like #RType, the #player controls the same two axes, left, right, up and down. The #game moves you forward automatically in both cases, whether the screen scrolls sideways or into the depth.
A true "rail #shooter" would be something like #VirtuaCop, where you have zero movement #control and only aim. #StarFox gives you full freedom on two axes. The label "rail shooter" is simply inaccurate.

I don't do many preorders of anything, but I love the hell out of shooting games of all kinds- sometimes I gotta jump. Dezatopia came out in 2020 and I've had it on both my Switch and Steam wishlists digitally since then, it's supposed to be great. It's actually the very FIRST thing on my Switch wishlist from all those years ago! So when I heard it was coming out physical with Mecharitz, it was a no brainer. Sure, it took a long time to get here (I preordered in July and just got it now in December). But to me, the wait was worth it. In addition to the cartridge with both games and a manual, it came with another separate book, a CD of the soundtrack, and a poster.
So psyched to try both of these.

I rarely pre-order ANYTHING, much less a game, but sometimes I make exceptions. I've been wanting to grab Dezatopia on Switch for so long, it's literally the first thing I ever put on my Switch wishlist many years ago (which now has like, a couple hundred games on it). I was waiting for it to go on sale but it never really did. I'm glad I waited, really. I dig physical games, and now there's this combo that includes Mecha Ritz. GREAT bang for the buck. Submarine Survivor looks like my kind of game-- chaos, underwater combat, etc. It's on Steam already (https://store.steampowered.com/app/3030290/Submarine_Survivor) and has a free demo there.
Eastasiasoft has now ported yet another great-looking game to consoles (Switch, Xbox, Playstation) with this one-- the console version of Submarine Survivor releases on the 7th (Wednesday).

Horizontal arcade style shootemup Cycle Chaser H-5 is coming to Switch January 24 (it's been on Steam since 2023). This is another great looking one from Ratalaika Games. It has hand-drawn and vector-rendered 2D graphics, an FM soundtrack produced in YM2612, three weapon styles with three attack types each, and Free Run mode which makes the game accessible for all experience levels (I love stuff like that).
