Yikes! #PlayStation lawsuit for anti-competitive behavior, even before they planned to discontinue physical discs. It makes sense - I regularly compare prices between #PSStore and #Steam (a more open marketplace) and Steam is always significantly cheaper with better and more frequent sales, too. PlayStation exclusive titles are some of the best games I've ever played - my top 10 of all time are mostly PS exclusives - but I've also found so many great #indiegames and #roguelites on Steam that make it a pretty attractive option to put a #SteamMachine or #gamingPC on the living room TV. I know we're subsidizing the hardware cost of the console when we buy PlayStation games, but at some point it just becomes pure profit for them and a raw deal for players.

I’ve been hearing a lot about Ball X Pit, and my friends also told me to go check it out. It’s been at the back of my mind, so I was excited to finally try it. It’s a lot of fun.
Ball X Pit is a game that’s like a mix of Arkanoid if you remember the old game which is the block breaker style combined with Vampire Survivor style roguelite.

metaprogression in some roguelites feels to me like a cheap way to give the player a "sense" of getting better at the game without actually getting better at the game. instead of runs becoming more successful because the player understands the ins and outs of the game more through trial and error (like how good roguelikes function!), the runs just get stronger by default.
which feels kind of insulting to me as a player and a game designer. it's like the devs didn't bother making a game where experience matters. you're instead expected to grind until you have enough stats. to just brute force the game until it lets you play properly. it's like i'm playing a half-baked RPG. blatant disrespect for my free time, and for my potential skill of solving the game, if there even was anything to solve.

The dividing line between #roguelites and #roguelikes is fuzzy but real, and the fan bases for those two genres are two distinct groups that tend not to overlap as much as their names would imply.
I’m a new convert to the genre, working on a guide to integrating roguish elements in #instructionaldesign .
