Wow, just won my first #angband game ever! Ultimately found success with a Dunadan Ranger. Wasn't sure I would ever have achieved that, but my last character (a High-Elf Mage) got close, but was killed by Sauron.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup aka #dcss is pretty damn hard. Even playing the recommended "easy build" of a Gargoyle Berserker, I keep dying around character and dungeon level 5. It's like you go straight from fighting a few loose rats and snakes to getting ambushed by an entire orc army all at once. And you can't grind XP because each level is permanent and the monsters stay dead, unlike in #Angband and #ADOM. #roguelike #yasd

I recently picked up a new classic #roguelike, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup or #dcss. I am really impressed by its #qualityoflife features compared to #Angband and #Nethack, including a web client, mouse support, auto-move, and auto-fight. It really shows how a game can have a great easy-to-learn interface but still be balls hard. I like it.

Finding a Sling of Power (x2) (+9, +15) on the first level of the dungeon is a pretty good start to an #angband session.

I know I follow a lot of indie game makers here, but I have little idea of what engines any of of you use. Anybody here know about C++ compiling? @josemachete79 is working on building his own version of #Angband from a cloned repo, and is running into issues compiling.

Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated- I've played a test build or two of the game and it's working great except for these final compiling issues. Hit him up!

One great and highly useful Angband thing I found is this printable guide to the commands, that this Angband.live forum user made and linked here in 2021. It's a Word doc, so I downloaded it, made the font and window slightly smaller, so I'm able to have it up next to the game window as I play. Helps MASSIVELY so you don't have to keep hitting '?'.

My head is throbbing after so many hours going through code and file after file to understand how to #zangband works. Writing down bunches of ideas and then moving them into the "reforging" (for lack of a better fitting word) of my clone. Several revamped visuals, couple bugs smashed, some QoL implementations done and a fair bunch of added stuff, are already fitted and being tested.
