Zwischendrin berichte ich ja immer mal von meinem Mac-Mini von 2014 (mit 500 GB SSD) den ich aktuell mit ZimaOS betreibe.

Bespielen kann ich ihn nur via WLAN, aber die Geschwindigkeit ist wirklich okay:

It's Sunday and I was updating some bits on my Raspberry Pi Zero 2 and thought, damn thing is a little trooper! So I did a small write-up on it.

Given all the talk about bigger data centres, more processing power. Sometimes it's nice to go back a little bit and see what you can do with less (much much less)

Immich is a freaking treasure! After rebuilding my server I had to fight with Nextcloud, even had to end up recreating a user account and restore things from backup. Immich I just spun the docker up, pointed it at the drive I had Immich on, and it came back like it had never been gone! Which is great because I wasn’t looking forward to 20,000 photos and videos backing up again.

Latest MXLinux update fubar’d my install. Spent most of today trying to get it back to working, but looks like I might have to nuke it from orbit and reinstall. Not overly excited about having to setup Nextcloud and Immich all over again.

Fortunately all data is backed up so nothing is going to be lost - other than a lot of time and sanity.

Trying to buy a PC case for my home server with 4 HDDs feels like looking for a VHS rewinder. Everything is glass, RGB, and “tool-less SSD slots.” Meanwhile, I just need some simple 3.5” trays. Guess mechanical drives are truly a relic of a bygone era. 💀

Już od jakiegoś czasu streamuje sobie muzykę z mojego domowego serwerka zamiast korzystać ze spotifajów i innych takich. Szukając rozwiązań jak poszerzyć moją bibliotekę muzyczną trafiłem info, że najlepiej się sprawdza Lidarr + slskd + soularr. I bogowie to nie był dobry pomysł żeby to stawiać jako osoba początkująca w selfhostingu :D nie wiedziałem jak w ogóle działają te serwisy i przede wszystkim nie umiałem ich pospinać w dockerze. Ale po paru dniach walki udało się to zaprząc do działania i jestem z tego powodu cholernie dumny. Przy okazji nauczyłem się sporo o dockerze i paru innych rzeczach. #selfhosting #HomeServer #lidarr

I've been using NextCloud for a long time, but it is really grating on me now.

What should I look at using.

Requirements:
* Linux & Android clients. Mac desktop and phone clients probably too
* Auto uploading phone pictures
* Web client
* Not something so convoluted that the only supported install method is a container, let alone a ecosystem of containers.

That looks technically very challenging. I can host websites at home with a similar setup as yours, but with a reverse SSH tunnel. My VPS could see more details in my data, I guess, than yours can with your data.

But why do you want your traffic that obscure, as if anyone at the VPS would care to sniff your packets? And why do you call the internet "evil"?

Today I have upgraded two servers from Debian 12 Bookworm to Debian 13 Trixie.

The first one was my mail server running mailcow inside docker which just took a few minutes. The second server was my server at home, running several services but mostly in docker.

After reinstalling some PHP packages almost everything was running smoothly again... only Movim still has some issues which I have to solve.

I like computers, especially those running #GNUlinux especially #NixOS. I’m still setting up my #homeserver with NixOS. I maintain a few packages and nixos modules in #nixpkgs. I'd call myself a nixpkgs maintainer. No commit bit, tho. Yet.

I like #programming, especially in #rustlang, sometimes when programming in other languages I notice that they are in fact not Rust. Sometimes I complain about it on here.

I like playing board or card games and i like cycling. What else? IDK, life. Just the joy of being, thinking and feeling.

So, dann schaue ich mir das mal genauer an: Noodle Gallery -> verwendet die Immich-Datenbasis, folgt auch allen Immich-Updates, Fotos müssen auch nicht umgezogen werden. Hat eine Reihe von Ergänzungen, z. B. "Shared Spaces" für Familie und Urlaub, Filter usw. usw. Habe ich jetzt mal installiert.

Well, I got Immich up and running. Had one brief hiccup, but the classic turn it off and turn it back on again did the trick.

My phone transferring all the photos over made it get smoking hot. Used some ice packs to keep it cool and after most of a day all my photos are backed up to Immich!

My homeserver went silent. DNS died. Router failover was useless as always — so I fixed it properly. keepalived floating IP, both AdGuards in parity, warm standby backups for Vaultwarden and Gitea. Also accidentally learned a lot about headless XRDP the hard way — LXQt, TigerVNC, rage quitting, and eventually XRDP and XFCE just working. Part 16!

Added a kiwix server to my local server setup. It took… no time at all really. Probably one of the easiest things I’ve done in forever and it just worked.

Next up is either going to be Kavita or Immich - depends how I’m feeling after I take care of things that need to get done today.

I finally replaced my giant Fractal Node 804 home server with the ZimaBoard 2!

In my new video, I explore the hardware, test the PCIe slot with a GPU, and set up a compact NAS using ZimaOS. It is amazing how much power you can get out of such a small footprint.
