Looking for anyone who has successfully installed Proxmox on an HP ProLiant DL380 G6 with a Smart Array P411 controller. I have tried Proxmox 7, 8, and 9. Most attempts end in a black screen or kernel panic. Debian itself also fails to detect the RAID 0 logical drive. I have tried both the older CCISS driver and the modern HPSA driver with no luck. Ubuntu installs without issues and sees the array fine, but I do not want Ubuntu running bare metal. I chose Proxmox because the original ESXi install is full of security vulnerabilities and ongoing problems, and I need something better supported. Has anyone got Proxmox working on this exact hardware, or found a reliable way to make the P411 visible during install?

PS. unfortunately I cannot update the firmware right now and since it is not mine and it is for the place that are work in, this is the test hardware that they gave me to try proxmox and see if it's better than EXSI or not.

Новомодное слово Homelabbing постепенно входит в нашу жизнь. По сути, это создание домашних серверов и запуск на них практически любого софта, который только может прийти в голову.
При этом вариантов применения просто огромное количество. Можно поставить готовые решения вроде Home Assistant, поднять какую-нибудь базу данных, собрать домашнюю медиатеку, запустить собственный сервис или очередное приложение, навайкоженное за выходные.
Начать эксперименты с Homelabbing меня подтолкнул старый ноутбук: за последний год в нём уже во второй раз умер аккумулятор, а увеличить объём оперативной памяти больше 8 ГБ было невозможно. В итоге я задумался о замене ноутбука, но старый оказался отличной платформой для знакомства с Homelabbing и Self-Hosted решениями.
В качестве операционной системы я выбрал Proxmox. На мой взгляд, это один из самых удобных вариантов для подобных проектов благодаря открытому исходному коду, большому набору инструментов для работы с виртуальными машинами и удобному веб-интерфейсу.
Первым делом на сервере появился Home Assistant, а также виртуальная машина с Linux для изучения популярного инструмента Hermes. О них расскажу подробнее в следующих постах.

The trendy new term Homelabbing is gradually becoming part of our everyday lives. Essentially, it means building servers at home and running pretty much any software you can think of on them.
There are countless ways to use a homelab. You can install ready-made solutions like Home Assistant, set up a database, build a home media library, run your own service, or deploy yet another app you vibe-coded over a weekend.
What got me interested in Homelabbing was an old laptop. Its battery had died for the second time in a year, and there was no way to upgrade its RAM beyond 8 GB. I started thinking about replacing the laptop, but the old machine turned out to be a great platform for getting familiar with Homelabbing and Self-Hosted solutions.
For the operating system, I chose Proxmox. In my opinion, it is one of the most convenient options for projects like this thanks to its open-source nature, extensive set of tools for working with virtual machines, and convenient web interface.
The first thing I installed on the server was Home Assistant, along with a Linux virtual machine for learning the popular Hermes tool. I’ll talk about both of them in more detail in upcoming posts.

Je viens enfin de trouver le temps de travailler sur mon infrastructure #proxmoxve pour la gérer avec #terraform. Il ne me reste plus qu'à tenter de déployer des instances via ce biais. J'ai dans l'idée d'utiliser #terraform pour créer l'instance puis exécuter un playbook #ansible. Je pars sur du LXC pour gagner en perf' (j'ai actuellement que des VM).

Prochaine étape : haproxy + client wireguard.

Interested in testing #bluefinosdakota in a #proxmoxve VM. But after selecting the live option from the bootloader, it just get stuck with a simple underscore in the upper left corner.

Any tip on testing this distribution in a VM?

Is it bad that I do not like #ProxmoxVE? I get that it makes everything easy to set up a virtualization environment. I just like to understand what's going on behind the scenes and Proxmox kind of hides everything behind an abstraction layer.

Unpacking and setting up #Qnap #DAS for my local #PBS instance. It will sync its storage with my remote PBS instance achieving 3-2-1 backups.

- NVIDIA A2 (16GB RAM)

erste tests mit ubuntu zeigte das #llm zu langsam laufen - und Modelle die in 16GB RAM passen sind eh nicht sonderlich sinnvoll

die hardware sollte möglichst flexibel verwendet werden - genau Anwendung noch nicht ganz klar - Simulation / Maschinelles Lernen

nach kurzer Recherche: #proxmoxve ist unser System! und bietet sogar volle #cli schnittstelle... iso runtergeladen - easy das OS installiert.

Neustart gemacht - Webinterface und alles am laufen - so weit - so normal

da ich nicht normal bin war der nächste schritt #opencode installieren - git repo "setup" initialisiert - dort die AGENTS.md angelegt mit dem Satz:

du bist der proxmox system admin =) du hast hier root - arbeite sorgfälltig und mit bedacht =).

cd setup -> opencode - und dann startet die magie...

I just began configuring my little #Dell #Optiplex7060 to be a virtualization server. Perfect for a #homelab. I am going the #proxmoxVE route after all. I tried XCP-ng and it was an overkill for my needs. I just have to wait for my second NIC card to arrive from Amazon. For performance reasons, I'm using PCI-passthrough for #OPNsense

Okay #homelab enthusiasts, I am looking at building a virtualization host. I’ve just tried out #ProxmoxVE and I just don’t like it that much. It feels clunky and bothers me to upgrade to a paid model constantly. I guess its tight integration with KVM made it appealing but I need to evaluate #xcpng. I don’t like the UI of Proxmox.

I really hate how #ProxmoxVE continually sends information popups about not being a subscriber. I think I might investigate #xcpng instead. The constant reminders are annoying. I don't have the money to subscribe but I would willingly donate.

I configured #chrony shipped with #ProxmoxVE to operate as a server and set up #DNS records on my router to point ntp[1-4].aliyun.com to the local IP of the #Proxmox node with chrony.

According to the internet, ntp[1-4].aliyun.com are 4 of 8 NTP servers used by #PhilipsHue bridge.

Then I blocked internet access for the bridge.

Now we wait and see if it works.
