Watched #Fellini #Satyricon last night, and saw the English dub; haven't watched that in a very long time. It's easier to watch if you're not trying to read the subtitles, but the English dub is quite a bit different from the English subtitles in the Italian version. A lot more cussing, for one: Encolpio keeps calling Ascylto "a shit", which had me laughing out loud more than once.

Wer die Bedeutung des Adjektivs »brillant« verstehen möchte, schaue sich nur einen von den gut 100 Filmen mit dem Meister in der Hauptrolle an. Als Kind sah ich Donald Sutherland zum ersten Mal in »Die Körperfresser kommen« (»Invasion of the Body Snatchers«, Philip Kaufman, 1978), dann im Zweite-Weltkrieg-Spionagethriller »Die Nadel« (Richard Marquand, 1981).
Über Jahrzehnte, bis ins vergangene Jahr, trat der am 17. Juli 1935 geborene Kanadier in unzähligen Genres, Rollen, Verwandlungen auf. Seine einstige Freundin Jane #Fonda brachte ihn dann auch politisch aufs richtige Gleis. Zusammen engagierten sie sich gegen den #Vietnamkrieg und produzierten beispielsweise den #Dokumentarfilm »FTA« (Francine Parker, 1972), das Kürzel steht für »Fuck the Army«. Junge Leute lernten Sutherland in der Filmreihe »Hunger Games – Die Tribute von Panem« kennen, wo er mit smartem Charme den rosenzüchtenden Oberfaschisten Snow mimte.
Schlusspunkt von Sutherlands einzigartiger Karriere bildete 2023 die Miniserie »Lawmen: Bass Reeves«, in der wir im 19. Jahrhundert den Weg des ersten afroamerikanischen Deputy U. S. Marshal westlich des Mississippi River mitverfolgen dürfen und Sutherland eine wichtige Nebenrolle spielt. Wie er selbst einmal sagte, habe er sich um politische Rollen zuweilen selbst beworben, ohne abzuwarten, ob man nach ihm frage.
Tageszeitung junge Welt: zwei Wochen testen.Bei seinem persönlichen Liebling von all den Filmen, in und bei denen er mitwirkte, blieb er diplomatisch: »Ich habe keinen Favoriten.
