  1. Not for nothing, but I LOVE seeing obscure Edward Hopper work that dispels the myth that artists who have a signature style don't also try a bunch of random shit, which by the way is totally fine and normal. It's a great reminder how so much of highly regarded art is so curated and edited down and anyone who is too scared to out of their zone is missing out on exploration. But yes, it's also messy when you look at an entire body of work.

  3. The current image challenge posed by delightful Internet place #b3ta is to photoshop comedy characters into classic artwork.

For my entry I upgraded the #EdwardHopper painting "New York Movie" with a couple of #MST3K robot friends.

  5. It finally happened. body.social is permanently closing down. I feel a little like someone in an Edward Hopper painting — standing at a window in a moment of stillness. I tried to express that feeling in an image inspired by Hopper’s art. It was created using AI tools.

  8. “Why do we wish there to be one argument, one thesis, one ‘point’ that the artist is trying to make over and over again?” We review Ivo Kranzfelder’s #EdwardHopperVisionOfReality: the-agency-review.com/edward-h #art #ads #advertising #EdwardHopper

  9. We love the work of Edward Hopper, and have been looking forward to reading this for quite some time now. His artistic style is so unique. So far we've only managed to procure one of his pieces. Route 6, Eastham. Can't wait to start the book.

  13. "Little Boy Looking at the Sea," Edward Hopper, 1891.

Y'all know Hopper. But this is remarkable as this is very, very early Hopper. Early as in he was nine years old when he drew this, on the back of one of his report cards.

Born in Nyack, NY, a yacht-building town at the time, Hopper grew up on the water, with the Hudson clearly visible from his bedroom window. It's impossible to know if this was meant to depict himself, or someone he knew, or was drawn from the imagination, but here it is.

He showed artistic talent at an early age, and his parents encouraged it, keeping him stocked with supplies. Reportedly he'd wander the riverbanks with a sketchpad, drawing anything that caught his fancy.

What's remarkable is the air of isolation, and the small figure is so pensive and focused. This prefigures the themes of many of his grown-up works.

    From a private collection.

(fot. Wikipedia) #EdwardHopper #malarstwo #sztuka

  17. Moonlight Etchings of the Forgotten Artist who Taught Edward Hopper

"Martin Lewis died in obscurity in 1962; a retired art teacher who had found some success in his early career, but was largely forgotten after the Great Depression took away the demand for his craft, leaving Lewis to spend his last three decades teaching other people how to etch. History chose Edward Hopper, but Martin Lewis was his mentor."
