  1. No picture from today's run, which was done in stunning weather but felt hard. Though Suunto claims it was the fastest I've done this route. Probably because, which is also the reason why no photo, other dog owners. Just a PSA "he's fine or he's friendly etc" ain't a fecking recall.

    Just arrgghh.

I came up to a person walking his two mutts off lead, one in front of him and one behind. I came to a halt, said a friendly "'ow do, nar then". They turned around said hi and turned back around and continued on their merry way. So they didn't see that one of their dogs started to run right at Penny. I went "feck it" and started to run to get away from the dog. As we did the dog came close and started to growl and I had to jump it, lucky for it I jumped high enough. As I went past the owner, I couldn't hold back and said loudly - It would be good if had your dogs on a lead, thanks.

Then on the return I had to swerve around, eg run into the long grass and of the trail, while I heard the fantastic recall "he's friendly". Sorry no, the way he went directly at Penny with that body language didn't communicate "friendly". Oh and it would be nice to be told that you had a third dog off lead coming up behind you, so I didn't have to do another detour into the undergrowth.

I love dogs, but please teach the mutts a solid recall, if not put it on a lead. Along with teaching them that running up to others ain't good dog ownership. The person or dog could be scared of other dogs (mine have been attacked by spaniels so don't like them at all, and is very worried of other especially bigger dogs), person could be allergic to dogs or as my MiL not very stable on her legs so having a dog running around, and potentially jumping up, her legs doesn't give her much confidence.

  2. There are few things in this world that compare to standing in the cold rain in the middle of the night waiting for the dog to decide if she needs to poop or not.

  3. Businesses providing water for dogs is a great example of simple act of kindness that makes a big difference to dog owners.

This creative watering hole was spotted at a pub by a non dog owner and sent in to us because they recognised the kindness of it.

We’re always looking for more examples of kindness to share, so send in yours!

  4. First run in a while, IRL and location has not made it easy to get a run in.

It went well until we met lose dogs.

Fair enough it's a public space and dogs are welcome on the beach. But if you are walking your dog there, keep it under control.

Not everyone is like me, someone who likes dogs a lot. And even if you are like me, you do mind if a random dog is running right up to you, with your dog or without a dog.

If I'm running or cycling I don't want to be tripped over, kicking/stepping/riding over a random dog or have them jump up and hit me squarely in "Stan and the boys".

Yes, maybe your dog is brilliant with other dogs, but how do you know that my dogs or others, are good with other dogs or humans. Heck, I know people who are scared of other dogs especially ones that they don't know and might be running right at them, but are happy with a certain breed of dogs.

So please keep your dog on lead, especially if the recall is not spot on, running after your mutt shouting "Jesus Christ, Fenton!", ain't a good look.

Keep an eye on your mutt, not your phone or the person you are nattering too, because you will miss your dog pooping in a random location. Which will lead to me getting the "fecking, dog owner, who never picks up after their mutt" looks, because you are a lazy dog owner.

  5. Sign you're a slightly crazy - you set over/unders on how many times your dog will poop on their walks.

  6. There are two kinds of dog owners, when the veterinarian asks, "How is the stool?"

    Type 1: "What? EW!"

Type 2: Proceeds to give a detailed description of consistency, firmness, color, smell, and scheduled or unscheduled regularity.
