  1. Well because I was an numpty today, y'all will have to live without a photo of today's run, and funky graph of the route.

Because I dropped the phone in a field with two very cuddly horses and an BIG bull and his family.

24km in about 4 hours, that includes 30min of searching for my phone. And before you say why didn't you use the Find my Phone option on my Suunto, I have to remind you that I was numpty today and forgot to full charge my phone before I took off.

I took a snap of the halfway trig, turned off the phone to save the remaining battery, in case I needed to call for a rescue or double check the route.

Arrived back, jumped into the car with the lass and spend another hour walking up and down the field and track between the trig point and where I found out that I lost the phone.

New phone ordered and hopefully it will arrive before I go to Denmark on Friday ...

  2. "Some big rabbits they got in these parts" said Miss MoneyPenny before she ran away.

Shorter run today than what Sergeant Hartman* wanted me to do. Simply because I got the opportunity to do a half marathon on Tuesday. Which will save me from being on public transport with the public who are out in public, the audacity, for nearly the same amount of time as it would take to run back.

I hope my rescheduling doesn't piss of Hartman too much as I also going to DK at the end of the week.

  3. I just gone and injured myself again, in my dreams.

My dreams have gone from full on action movie chaos on steroids, where the heroes need a nice cup of tea and a biscuit afterwards, to suspense thrillers that would make Hitchcock hide behind his Doctor Who themes pillow. Sadly I can't remember anything other than the feeling of the dreams.

Which means I'll wake up in a tense curled up tight ball, where every lim and muscle takes a good 10min to stretch out. And last night the sartorius muscle, going from the outside of the hib to the inside of the knee, was feeling like I had strained it. This kept me awake for too long, while I tried to get comfy and stretched out.

So today's run was a gentle run'n'sniff with Penny, to check out how badly my dream had injured me, in glorious weather until our luck ran out and we didn't miss the rain. See photo, it was taken just before the clouds got darker and utterly dumbed on us. It was still nice mild so other that soaked we had a good run.

  4. Good run around the reservoir in my hiking boots. That is why I live/love barefoot shoes, I didn't notice until I was halfway around. Absent-minded I got ready and without paying attention and I put the boots on, not my runners. I'm clearly what some people would call a fanboy of #vivobarefoot they just fit my feet like gloves and their Forest ESC are equally as comfy to run or hike in as my Primus FG.

And on the photo you can see Penny doing what she likes the most, running on high walls

  5. A run in @Wen neck of the woods ;) Jelly that I can't stay for longer this time for more running.

Though "run" wasn't really what happened here, loads of ferns and a bit too much up for the day after a squatting kettlebell session ;)

  6. Brilliant August weather, eh, looks at forecast and pokes head out of window. Yup, best dress for potential rain and a fresh'ish wind. Get out onto the moor and wind drops and the sun finds a hole in the low clouds. Contemplate shall I take a layer off, getting a bit warm now. Glad I didn't as the high point and the down hill was directly into what felt like an late autumn wind. Managed to out run the rain again. Typing this while sitting in the hot sun, but listen to the rain and wind beating down onto the HQ.

  7. Managed to get out in a dry spell, still managed to get my toes wet as the grass was wet and I found a wee bog to put one leg into. Crossed path with many people walking the C2C (coast to coast) today and had a nice natter with a young Dutch couple, who has hiked the West Highland way, hiked their way around the Lake District and now C2C.

  8. No matter how often I go up that hill at the end it ain't getting easier, it's a right bar steward.

First time ever I've seen another runner on my favorite bit of this route, always thought it was just me and the sheep. Glad I didn't have music on, as we passed each other, as they would have had to endure my singing.

  9. I'm glad that I held back on my first weight training in years yesterday, used the 6kg dumbbell instead of the 10kg, and did only one round of sets. As when I woke up I could feel it a bit, lucky nothing hurted on the run.

Here's a snap of Miss MoneyPenny from yesterday where I tried to get her sitting looking at the sunset.

  10. Out with the small running buddy, Miss MoneyPenny, sorry for not getting her into the frame, but you try to take a snap of something that got a bee(hive) up her backside. She didn't catch anything today but boy did she try, jumping from tuffs of grass to a hole in the ground, zooming from the rock on the right to a bush on the left while still staying ahead, and slightly pulling the lead, of me. Now outside the HQ and she is still looking for something to hunt and ready for another run, at least Paddy had the courtesy to have a lie down when back from a run.

  11. I think, I did this correctly, playing around with Suunto's training options and 10 week training plan, by starting with a rest day ;)

Since the last few weeks really threw a spanner into the works and my 16 week trail running marathon plan went out the window. I owe it to Paddy the Irish Mutt as he has been my running partner for the last two years, to finish this run in his memory.

Restock of various supplements done, and kit upgrades ordered, come on boy we got this!

  12. Some of you might have noticed I haven't posted any running post lately. We had a few grim and horrible weeks, I did manage to run with him but really didn't feel like posting. As we sadly had to say goodbye to our wonderful Mr Patrick Long Legs aka Paddy the Irish mutt. His illness took a turn and we weighed up all the options and the best one was to send him over the rainbow bridge. While he was still in a happy place.

Run free my wonderful running partner, I'll miss you goofyness and cuddles.

  13. I was quite forgetful yesterday. First I forgot my ear pods so had to run naked. Boy, do I make a lot of noise ;) I don't play music/podcast at ear bleeding levels, I can still hear things around me. I clearly consecrate about what is playing and therefore don't hear my huffing, puffing and sniffling. And then I forgot to post the 5km run here.

Today I tried to run up to the top of a hill but at 1km to go I bunked and turned around, didn't feel like pushing on until the top. I haven't eaten well over the last few days and yesterday's run I think I pushed a bit to hard and haven't recovered yet.

  14. So a numpty decided that it was a grand idea to go up on the moors, after two very hot heatwaves and not much rain, too let of fireworks. We drove through the smoke as we passed Manchester on our way north. Even 30miles away on the other side of the city, the smoke was too thick to go for a run yesterday. Luckily today the wind changed direction and I could go out for a run on my somewhat local trails.

There's something to running familiar trails as you don't have to get the map out to look at to find an alternative route, if you want to go longer or there's live stock in the way. Though today's "slowdown/timekiller/rest stop" was a fella repairing a dry stone wall, just amazing skills.

  15. Well these rest and recovery days really only works if you actually do some running around these days ;)

Inspired by Courtney's anticlockwise winning run at Hard Rock 100, I went anticlockwise on today's run and also set a PB. Though I think it was more down to that it was bone dry and not the normal quagmire this route often can be.

Oh look @robchapman we are in your old playground ;)

  16. Well that second up hit hard. The first lump was along the ridge where second was directly up Fell running style, had to stop and replace lungs a few time. But we found the first Welsh trig of the year. Stunning view and a stream for Paddy to cool down and wash my toes as there was still a few buggy places up top.

I did about 3k on the Dragon's Back Race route, can I now say that I'm a DNF'er on an Ultra Run ? ;)

Oh and which one of you lot (points at fellow mastodon trail runners) entered my lass's dreams last night and proclaimed that you were a painter and decorater?

  17. Well the run didn't remove the depression and sadness of how dirty the yUK has become. People really don't care anymore do they. I tried for most of this week to ignore it, but what I saw last night, just tipped me over.

Going out on a run on the mainland, I would sometimes come back with a bit of litter, a wrapper of some sort and now and again a drink bottle/can. Everything could easily fit in a dog poop bag and a side pocket of my running vest. We rarely had to do any litter picking when parked up for a night and if we did it would be a small amount.

Since arriving into the yUK every time we parked up, we litter picked and witnessed overflowing bins. Last night at a location where people clearly come for hikes or to sit and enjoy their chippy tea. I've just done a litter pick and put a bag full into the provided bin.

A young couple had their take away in their car, open the door and dumped their litter, under 10m away from the bin. And they drove off, I jumped out of HQ and made a clear show of what I was doing but they were not looking as they speed away. A bit later on the last bio break for the mutts for the night, I picked up 4 1L bottles someone else had just dumped.

On today's run I could have filled two 30+ liters bin bags with the amount of litter laying about, heck even broken car parts, just why!?!

Fecking depressing, I'm not saying that the mainland is spotless, they got their dirty spots too and fly tipping, but at least it doesn't feel like you are running through a garbage dump when out and about.

  18. The near 6km loop failed as the path was totally overgrown with brambles and I could see on the other side signs saying private land. But Paddy got to tap another trig point and we enjoyed some lovely bridle ways.

  19. First run after nearly two weeks heat-atus to see if the legs and lungs still knew how to do this thing. Could probably have gone further but didn't want to have a blowout on the first run back. Now I just got to get back into the habit again, run off a few months worth of French baked goods, run a marathon before we return to the land of crossaints ;)

  20. A steady humid urban trails run'n'sniff, while HQ is in for her service. Driving around in the Pyrenees does work the breaks a fair bit. Good quite green lanes shared with cyclist in farmland just outside town. Only issue was the travelers encampment as they had loose dogs, lucky they stayed close to camp and didn't give chase after us. Plenty of streams to stop and dip Paddy boy.

  21. Well that didn't go to plan. Set off early to beat the heat for a half marathon and 800mEg. The first 3-4km I just coughed and couldn't get enough air in, no matter how slow I was going. This drained me so much, that when I got to the halfway point, and saw that the farmers were out moving their livestock around and would be using the tracks and mountains, I was hoping to use, I decided to call it a day.

I think it was a mix of pollen, dust and not fueling enough, that made me weak today. But it was a stunning morning out for it in a beautiful location.

  22. Stunning, great and spectacular day out, not that there was much running the first 5k or the following 5k and the 5k after that ;) A solid 700m up for the first part, then at around 2000m altitude the old service road was covered in rock falls and some snow and then turned into a dead end track. At the end there was a forestry house/shelter, which we had to climb up and around to get past. Then it was directly down, 250m in not a long distance, as it was a near a sher drop that serpentined it's way down past the concrete and iron snow protection for the village below. Then we hit then main busy path on this mountain, (as Brits would say it was like Blackpool Beach) where we meet 10 hikers and 6 trail runners for the next 3-4km down. Yet there was still another 3km to do before we could have a cooling down dip in the river.
