I'm finding it difficult to accept your "pure horseshit" claim when a new hyperscaler #datacentre (IREN) is being build in my state precisely because we run on renewables.
    How is that "pure horseshit"?

    afr.com/companies/financial-se

Edit: Also, #crypto wasn't necessarily claiming it woul DRIVE renewable adoption in any meaningful way, what it was claiming was it would use SURPLUS energy, which is a different thing. As well as plenty other, as you say "pure horseshit" claims 😬

Let's find other connections to Datacentres though, we have crypto, we have fascism, how about human trafficking, you recon we can spin that into the anti Datacentres narrative?
    😁

  2. #Texas #Republicans are #opposing the rapid expansion of #AI #datacentre|s, citing concerns about rising costs and strained resources. This shift in attitude, driven by local opposition, poses a challenge for both big tech and Trump’s push for AI dominance. techradar.com/pro/texas-republ #tech #news #ainews

  3. #SwissRe’s #JérômeHaegeli states that the »#physicaleconomy is back« due to a surge in #datacentre #investment, driving a global #capitalexpenditure #supercycle. This boom, spanning data centres, energy systems, and other infrastructure, presents a significant insurance opportunity, potentially generating $200 billion in premiums between 2026 and 2030. reinsurancene.ws/physical-econ #tech #news #ainews

The sooner #antislop wood folk realise the whole #datacentre thing is broligarchy limited hangout/psyop the better.

Attacking data centres is a distraction.
At best, you just NIMBY it to a poorer, less organised community.

In the meanwhile #Ai is being unregulated.

The societal changes Ai will bring, mainly in job loses and dictatorial powers of #AGI are immeasurable.

We needed to #regulateAi 3 years ago.
The next best time to do so is now

  6. If you want to know more about efforts to stop the #Norwich Mega #DataCentre then this seems to be the best site to follow:

  7. Went to the Stop the #Norwich #DataCentre protest this lunchtime.

No one group seemed to dominate - it was broad collective of people from across the spectrum coming together to fight having an #AI data centre the same height of City Hall (the backdrop) dumped next to Marston Marshes.

Jake Humphries, the sports presenter who grew up near by gave a good facts based speech that went down well with the crowd.

This is an issue that speaks to everyone concerned about water and energy resources.

  8. #Nvidia is investing $3.5 billion into #MediaTek, a Taiwanese chipmaker, to help it design custom #AIchips for #datacentres. This partnership allows Nvidia to maintain its lead in the #datacentre market while acknowledging the growing trend of companies building their own chips. MediaTek will also collaborate with Nvidia on #DGXSpark, #RTXSpark, and AI-powered #vehicleplatforms. techcrunch.com/2026/08/31/nvid #tech #news #ainews

  9. @gary_alderson

    What's the #datacentre #psyop ?

    I'm glad you asked.
It's a technique borrowed from manipulation of western democracies. You allow fiery disagreement in a very narrow aspect, while disregarding the underlying structures, drivers.

The #aihate wood folk are distracted, dancing around the bone fires against Datacentres.
Where as they ought to be actively political about #airegulation
Taxation, Knowledge manipulation/censorship, ownership, private vs sovereign models, job loss, guardrails.

The #datacentre will get built anyway.
NIMBYING it to a poorer, less organised community isn't stopping #broligarch plans...
...and while the wood folk slap themselves on the back for "winning" the broligarchy keeps eating everything with no political oversight

    #regulateai

I have a Chinese EV, you don't have to convince me of Chinese tech superiority.

Most folks are at Level 0 of #Ai expertise.
They are still falling for the #datacentre #psyop
The single most important thing if you #aihate is to learn about it.
What was that SUN TZU quote about knowing your enemy?

They don't know about #openweights models
They don't realise this, but they still are at the "number of R's in strawberry, hahaha" stage.

There is a growing #backlash against #bigtech, particularly #datacentre|s, #Flock #surveillancecamera|s, and AI-infused products like #Meta’s #RayBan|s: This opposition is fuelled by concerns over #privacy, #jobdisplacement, and the perceived lack of #democraticinput in these projects. Despite industry efforts to downplay the backlash, it represents a rejection of Silicon Valley’s core project of rapid AI expansion and data extraction. bloodinthemachine.com/p/with-t #tech #news #ainews

Thought you might want to know your electric bill is about to jump, probably water too...
Microsoft is planning to build Three Data Centres in your area.

It's not AI™ as pseudo-persons that are trashing our social fabric, or even those other artificial persons called corporations.

Its the greedy, sociopathic plutocrats who own them all.

  15. The volume of planned #gas power plants for #datacentres in the US has nearly doubled in six months, growing from 97 gigawatts in 2025 to 189 in the first half of 2026 driven by the exponential increase in demand from rapid #datacentre expansion

  16. If MASSIVE #datacenters are your red line...

    ... What's your ACCEPTABLE #datacentre size?

You know, a cozy, blanket and teapot datacentre just big enough for your Mastodon instance, some furry porn blogs, your tortured SIMS characters, your favourite online game, Netflix, Facebook and Instagram.

  17. “Mr Amodei met the prime minister and treasurer when they signed a memorandum of understanding between the company and the government, which included, among other things, a promise to "expand #Anthropic’s presence in #Australia".

The AI company has not publicly stated how much computing capacity it would like to obtain in Australia.

The #ABCAustralia reported in June that Anthropic wanted 5 gigawatts of new Australian computing capacity by 2030, with a longer-term goal of 20 gigawatts.

The #AustralianFinancialReview reported in July about a confidential tender sent by the #AI company to Australian #DataCentre builders asking for 1.4 #gigawatts of capacity, valued at more than $20 billion.”

  18. ‘Never seen this level of objection’: #Scotland pushes back against #datacentre boom

#Holyrood ‘inching towards moratorium’ amid concerns over massive proposed developments in #Auchtertool and beyond

by Aisha Down, 25 Aug 2026

"In a village 21 miles north of #Edinburgh, a real estate consultancy plans to build a datacentre larger than the village itself – 35 metres high, with an area larger than 100 football pitches.

"Billed as the second-biggest datacentre in the world, the development in Auchertool, Fife, has attracted 1,600 objections.

" 'The public pressure is huge,' said David Torrance, a member of the Scottish parliament representing the village. 'I’ve never seen this level of objection to a local plan, and I have been in politics for 25 years.'

"Similar concerns are being echoed across Scotland, next to gargantuan planned developments in towns such as #Airdrie and #Larbert. In a matter of weeks, as the Scottish parliament comes back into session, the growing opposition could pose a challenge to #Britain ’s #AI strategy.

" 'The Scottish government is inching towards a moratorium,' said Kat Jones, director of the Edinburgh-based charity #ActionToProtectRuralScotland. 'MSPs return to parliament next week, after a summer in their constituencies where they have been hearing the concerns of local people about proposed #hyperscale #datacentres. They will be expecting action.'

"For months, #UK officials have been encouraging would-be datacentre developers to consider Scotland. In April, Fintan Slye, the chief executive of the UK’s National Energy System Operator (Neso), told a London audience to look north: 'If in the audience you have a big datacentre and you want to go to Scotland, please come talk to me, we will help you,' he said.

" 'They are coming up here because we are energy-rich, and we are water-rich, and England is in drought and the grid is struggling,' said Torrance.

"But Scotland, it turns out, isn’t having it. The proposal for Auchtertool is a behemoth: drawings show the 600MW datacentre towering over the village, dwarfing old stone houses and blocking the view of #fields and #forests.

" 'How can you possibly ask people to accept that?' Torrance said. 'You can see why the public is objecting.'

"Scotland has already started to take steps that could mean the Auchtertool datacentre – and dozens of others – may never be built."

  20. Data centres in Scotland are being given a (rightfully) hard ride

Yes, we do need data storage and processing capacity in this country - but not for what much of their capacity, land, power and water usage is proposed to be ‘spent’ on.
