This will be one of our very first (non-woody) wildflowers (someone else beat them those pics to come!)- nothing open yet 3 days ago, there could be by now, I'll check again soon... I love the early leaves anyway- Caltha like many plants has extra red/purple pigments in the emerging leaves- this may help them withstand the inevitable cold nights or even days after emergence!

The date is +/- November 7, observances from 10/ 31 to 11/ 10: #Halloween #DayOfTheDead #Samhain, #MartinsDay etc. In #Latvian tradition it's #Mārtiņi or Mārtiņdiena- which shares a name- and modern date, Nov 10- with the Christian saint, but celebrates a much older #pagan god.
