  6. Say, if you haven’t had breakfast yet, or are hungry now, doesn’t this tub of berries look refreshing! I was among the first in line at the Banner UMC cafeteria when opened for the day at 7 am. I was on a mission to get a large coffee since I’d spent the night in my son’s ICU room.

If I hadn’t been distracted by seeing the hot orders line staff making scores of giant breakfast burritos I would have gone back in the cold deli buffet area to scoop out some fruit. #Berries #Blueberries #Blackberries #iPhone #Fruit

  7. Combo of Two Diets May Slow Brain Aging

Pairing two familiar eating plans may help your brain hang on to its youth, at least on scans. A study of more than 1,600 adults found that people who stuck more closely to the MIND diet—a mashup of the Mediterranean and DASH …

  8. #Cotoneaster #berries. They're similar to firethorn plants but are thornless with serated leaf margins. Their flowers & fruits are toxic for humans but have excellent #WildlifeValue.
These are #larval food plants for several insects. Their flowers attract many #pollinators. Their fruits are eaten by multiple birds - blackbirds especially love eating these berries in Winter.
It's been cultivated by landscapers for wildlife value & soil erosion prevention. It's grown in many public & private areas around here - I see it almost everywhere. Birds have spread their seeds afar.

I don't know which variety of cotoneaster this is - there are a lot of varieties.

Spotted at Burnside Medical Clinic parking lot.

  9. Digesting Food Studies—Episode 108: Un-learning and Re-Learning

Should all food knowledge be freely shared? When we learn in university contexts, what structures shape our understanding? What should we try to un-learn? To re-learn? To reimagine?

    rss.com/podcasts/digesting-foo

We start with an Amuse Bouche segment on the partial sharing of traditional knowledges, and then Alissa Overend and Ronak Rai talk about their article, “Un-learning and re-learning: Reflections on relationality, urban berry foraging, and settler research uncertainties” (doi.org/10.15353/cfs-rcea.v11i).

Finally, transdisciplinary food artist and researcher, Annika Walsh, adds her own flavor to the mix, with a deeply reflexive response to Alissa’s and Ronak’s text.

  16. Fazerilta ilm. joku uutuus gurtti. Ei siinä. Mä jäin vain miettii tuota mustikan nimen markkinointia. Meidän suomalaisten tuntema mustikka on tumma (bilberry).
