Bonjour les #bricoleur #bricoleuse #bricolage je vais devoir percer mon plafond pour un #ventilateurdeplafond #pasdeclim (ok stop les # ) mais ma simple perceuse n'a déjà pas réussi à percer un des murs de l'immeuble et le sol et j'ai peur que ce soit la même chose pour le plafond.

The artist is a close friend, and she gifted them to me for an interactive installation I'm working on for the Pedagogy and Theater of the Oppressed conference. Lots of cutting to get poster-sized prints into weaving strips, and I'm sure grateful to have a mat cutter to make easier work of it!

Claude Levi-Strauss said that the bricoleur is one who makes beauty and usefulness from the dumpheap of human existence. Rough language from a guy who was, in many ways, horrible. That line, though, reminds me often to look for what isn't being used and find a use for it. It reminds me to see what was a product as potential materials. It's been a driving force in my life since I first heard it years ago. I continue to practice. Thusly my hashtags using that word. I hope others will pick up the practice, too.

Addendum to the last post. I also think we can use social media to connect with community we aren't finding in our physical lives. I don't have many gay, male friends who are makers, and I long for that connection.
