  1. Think of MFA as the Ring of Protection you bought in Act One — these two just found the lore note that makes it disenchant on contact. Patch your Palo Alto Networks systems immediately and reset credentials for any accounts that may have been exposed.

Reward: You've received the Cursed Authenticator Trinket — +0 to MFA effectiveness, -15 to peace of mind. Inventory penalty applied.

  6. Think Driscoll’s berries are just another brand at the supermarket? Think again.

Driscoll’s has enormous influence over the berry business, including the genetics and supply chains behind those strawberries, raspberries and blueberries we buy here in Australia.
A whistleblower alleges Canadian authorities repeatedly flagged Driscoll’s berries for exceeding pesticide limits. If true, that deserves serious scrutiny.
We should be asking who controls our food, what’s being sprayed on it, and how much we really know about what ends up in our shopping baskets.

Trump will try to drag ALL of
    in TOTAL disaster.
People like Trump have a simple mind...
    infantile.
    They hate everyone fiercely
They feel like the center of the universe
    and anyone else is 'irrelevant'
And if they think they're going to 'fall'
they try to drag EVERYONE into their fall.

  11. '’They think they are above the law': the firms that own America's voting system’
    #2020

Although this article is old, imagine how much more control and influence the broligarchs have over voting:

‘“To say that they don’t have any evidence of any wrongdoing is not to say that nothing untoward happened,” Raskin said. “It’s simply to say that we don’t have the evidence of it.”

The fact is that democracy in the United States is now largely a secretive and privately-run affair conducted out of the public eye with little oversight. The corporations that run every aspect of American elections, from voter registration to casting and counting votes by machine, are subject to limited state and federal regulation.’

  14. I think it's well past time I find a new solution for the living room media centre, because I would really like to have my PC back at my desk and demote this laptop to "if I have to" status.

The laptop's okay for most stuff, but apparently "professional software" means "we don't have to worry about performance because your overkill GPU should be tax deductible" now.

Regardless, 32GB of RAM is more gooder than 16 (not to mention a discrete GPU with 8GB of its own), especially when I need to drag entire product lines into the document.

Why You Should Read More Fiction: What Data and AI Tell Us About the Value of Storytelling

    Andrew Piper

    (John Hopkins University Press, 2026)

"Why human storytelling matters: the science behind attention, memory, and connection.
    (...)
In this ambitious and timely book, Andrew Piper argues that fiction is far more than entertainment. Stories cultivate attention, perspective, and embodied understanding in ways increasingly vital to modern life.

Piper is the director of McGill University's ".txtlab," a digital humanities laboratory that uses AI and computational modeling to study how storytelling works. Rather than using AI to generate fiction, Piper employs these tools to analyze patterns across thousands of novels, folk tales, fan-fiction archives, and works of contemporary global literature. By translating elements of narrative—characters, emotions, objects, behaviors, social relationships, and points of view—into measurable features, his lab can identify patterns that no individual reader could easily detect through ordinary reading alone. Across these diverse traditions of storytelling, Piper demonstrates that fiction consistently foregrounds lived experience: characters moving through richly textured environments, objects charged with emotional and cognitive significance, worlds rendered through accumulated sensory detail. These patterns reveal fiction's distinctive ability to model how minds and bodies engage with their surroundings. Piper connects these findings to the cognitive science concept of embodied cognition, or the idea that thought emerges through our physical and emotional engagement with the world.

Fiction, he argues, does more than immerse us in imagined worlds. It trains us to examine experience with greater flexibility, attention, and interpretive distance."

  17. Honestly think journalists should just ask Trump questions about his arch and ballroom for the next two weeks. First, it will keep him from considering worse things to do. But more importantly the country will see him as being completely out of touch with the day to day reality of Americans.

It's hard to muster up the enthusiasm for a candidate and their party when you've just paid a 2nd mortgage for filling up on gas and he is going on about gold filigree, doric columns, and frescoes depicting his foretold apotheosis.

  23. i think this other approximated hexagonal geometry could look better and bolder in knitting even though it is slightly stretched to fit on a pixel grid. and maybe key phrase generated like my knityak.com/collections/skelet line could be cool with little randomly generated snowflakes. i kind of like the idea of things that look classic like this but no two sweaters are the same.

  25. I think there are a few leaps I’m making and opportunities for companies/products to be built, but I don’t think we’re far from giving agents money to spend. Some of it happens already implicitly but I think within a few months they will start signing up for services themselves and pay for them.

  26. i think the ram emblems on 6th gen chargers (+neons +avengers etc etc) are so badass. neatest little detail ever. wondered if i could put them on my 7.5 gen but i guess that would just look silly. so so cute nonetheless and i always get a little jealous when i see them out in traffic. maybe when it’s time to retire my baby i can get an older charger (or neon srt4) (man i love the neon)
