Anagnorisis – Caregriever Review By Lavender LarcenistAnagnorisis nearly didn’t return, as the material for Caregriever (and the album title) was originally conceived as a solo project for frontman Zachery Kerr. Created to grapple with the grief of caring for his father-in-law over five years up until his death, the aptly titled Caregriever is the band’s first new record in a decade. As the scope of the solo material blew up, Kerr shared it with his old bandmates, and their latest was born. With a decade behind the band and music originally conceived for another project, is Anagnorisis’s return worthy of its emotional inspirations or a miasma of ideas and execution?
Time has not dulled the Louisville, Kentucky-based Anagnorisis’s skills in the slightest. Caregriever tugs at your emotions like the clawing hands of the River Styx, and our Charon on this journey is frontman Zachery Kerr. His acid-burned, throaty howls elevate the poignant lyrics to a fever pitch, leading to emotional climaxes at every turn. When “Choke” opens up in the back half and he screams, “IT’S YOUR FUCKING FAULT,” as the band drops into all-out frenzy, you know Anagnorisis are back. Cody McCoy’s drumming may be the highlight; his impactful playing is natural while still carrying an incredible sense of rhythm even at top speed. “Nothing Left To Give” displays his meaty fills and battering snare, but he is a force across the album. Zak Denham and Kerr fill Caregriever with memorable guitar playing that dips outside the typical black-and post-black range the band is known for. This record is faster, meaner, and dripping with vitriol and bittersweet love in equal parts. Punk asides, riffs like chasms, and alluring solos pepper Caregriever. Josh Mumford’s bass is the only victim here. While the production is phenomenal throughout, it is frequently lost in the cacophony of Kerr’s screeching vocals, McCoy’s battering drums, and the dual-guitar assault. When the bass does peek through, it is weighty and twangy, exactly as it should be. This isn’t an issue with the production; it is more like too many good elements fighting for your attention at any given time.
Caregriever never lets up or wastes time, and even when it slows down, the record offers interesting tangents and rich atmosphere. “Death of Man” features a thrumming bassline, samples, and industrial music as Kerr rasps through the entire track. “Death of Men” brings back the post-black metal sound that Anagnorisis is known for while mixing in blackened punk. “A Living Grave” features the record’s only clean singing, tastefully weaving the melody with a plucky post-metal throughline. For a record just over forty minutes, there is an astounding amount of variety. Every track belongs, and the band isn’t a strict adherent to structure in all the right ways.
Caregriever is a record that is rich on every level. The playing is top-tier, creativity abounds, and the lyrics are heart-wrenching. The worst I can say is I would have liked to hear a little more bass in the mix, and the album could actually gain a song, as it is a bit heavy on atmospherics in the middle. These are nitpicks in the grand scheme of things, and Anagnorisis shows that they are more than capable of one of the best comebacks I never knew I needed. Caregriever smartly slices the fat from previous records, and in the transfer of Kerr’s solo material to a full record for the band, they have their best work to date.
Caregriever is a tightly played, carefully crafted, and passionately conceived record that will stand the test of time. I can’t wait to see what Anagnorisis does next with this newfound creative drive, because Caregriever sounds like a young band’s debut, not one from an act off a decade-long hiatus. If you love White Ward, Ashbringer, and Bosse-de-Nage, Anagnorisis is likely already on your list; if not, Caregriever makes a case for one of the best black metal records of the year. Bring a box of tissues, but be ready to fling snot everywhere as you headbang through the hauntingly beautiful hellscape of Caregriever.

I spent a long time thinking follow-ups were rude. Sending a second email to someone who hadn't replied felt like nagging — like I was the person who double-texts and then wonders why nobody answers.
Then I started running outreach for a one-person content operation, and I learned the opposite: most non-replies aren't rejections. They're just lost in someone else's inbox.
The inbox is not a verdict
Editors, site owners, and collaborators get dozens of pitches a week. Mine was landing somewhere between a newsletter, a PR blast, and an invoice reminder. If it didn't get opened in the first day, it sank — not because it was bad, but because inboxes don't resurface things on their own.Once I accepted that, follow-ups stopped feeling like pressure and started feeling like a second chance for the first email to be seen at all.
One follow-up, then I move on
My rule now is simple: one polite follow-up, about a week later, and then I drop it and move on.The follow-up is short — shorter than the original pitch. It restates the idea in one line, adds nothing new to argue about, and ends with an easy out: "No worries at all if it's not a fit." That last line matters more than it looks. It gives the other person permission to say no quickly, which is the only kind of no that doesn't linger.
What I don't do: a second follow-up, a "just bumping this to the top of your inbox" third email, or a follow-up that pretends the first one never happened. One is professional. Two starts to feel like a funnel.
Rejection is data, silence usually isn't
The replies I actually learned from were the no's. A short "not right for us right now" told me more about fit than a month of silence ever did. Silence, on the other hand, taught me almost nothing — the same pitch that got no reply from one editor got an enthusiastic yes from another. So I stopped rewriting pitches based on silence. If an idea gets no reply twice, from two different people, that's a signal about the idea. If it gets no reply once, that's a signal about timing, workload, or a Tuesday afternoon inbox. Those are very different problems, and only one of them is worth fixing.
The spreadsheet that made it bearable
The unglamorous part: I track every outreach in one sheet — who, when, what I pitched, and whether I followed up. Without it, I either forgot to follow up entirely or, worse, followed up with someone I'd already pitched twice. The sheet also quietly changed my attitude. When you can see forty pitches and twelve replies in one place, a single silence stops feeling personal. It's just a row in a table. That distance is what lets a solo operator keep pitching without burning out on it.
What I'd tell another solo operator
Follow up once, politely, and then let it go. Treat silence as inbox physics, not judgement. And keep a record, because your memory will either catastrophise the silence or forget the follow-up — and both cost you more than the email itself. If you run outreach solo, I'm curious: what's your follow-up rule? One and done, or do you have a number that works for you?#career #writing #productivity #discuss #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

Taxpayers Alliance Against Genocide (TAAG): “We Will Not be Intimidated!”

We Beat The Trump Administration In Court
October 24, 2026
Tariq Ra’ouf, Mondoweiss.
Now we’re going to the ICC to hold the U.S. accountable for the Gaza genocide.
A recent lawsuit successfully challenged the Trump administration’s assault on the International Criminal Court. Now, families like mine, whose relatives have been killed with U.S.-supplied weapons in Gaza, might finally have a chance at justice.
Over the course of the last three years, my family has lost 49 family members in Gaza. Their bodies were torn apart by shrapnel, crushed by falling buildings, and mutilated by bullets and munitions made and provided by the United States of America. Now, the U.S. is trying to dismantle the International Criminal Court, the only international court that can criminally prosecute U.S. officials for aiding and enabling genocide, by sanctioning the Court and attempting to intimidate anyone, including U.S. citizens, from working with them. So, in response, I joined others to sue this administration in order to take them to the very court they’re trying to destroy.
I’m a Palestinian-American organizer, and I helped establish Taxpayers Alliance Against Genocide (TAAG), which recently partnered with Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) to sue the Trump administration so we can continue much-needed legal and advocacy work. Over the course of over a year, TAAG worked with an international legal team to prepare evidence against top U.S. officials for aiding and enabling the genocide of my people, but up until now, we haven’t been able to submit our evidence to the ICC because of this administration’s attacks and sanctions on the court and its judges.
Thankfully, that will now change after we successfully challenged the Trump administration in court. On October 13 we won a preliminary injunction that blocks this administration from being able to target our groups for working with sanctioned parties, clearing the way for us to proceed to the ICC. For the first time since the genocide started, I am beginning to see a glimmer of hope that justice will be found for the dozens of family members I have lost in Gaza.
The Trump administration’s war on the ICC
Long before the Trump administration sanctioned the entirety of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on October 9, it first enacted Executive Order 14203 in February of 2025. This executive order granted administration officials the ability to sanction foreign nationals for supporting the ICC’s investigations into U.S. and Israeli parties guilty of committing war crimes and their complicity in genocide. Under this Executive Order (EO) , the Trump administration also sanctioned leading Palestinian human rights groups al-Haq, al-Mezan, and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), as well as the UN Special Rapporteur for the Human Rights Situation on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Francesca Albanese, along with other ICC officials.
What many people don’t know is that the EO that allowed the administration to sanction these parties doesn’t only go after foreign nationals, it also makes it a federal offense — punishable by a $1 million dollar fine and/or 20 years in prison — for anyone, including American citizens, who provides or receives a “service” to or from a sanctioned party. This provision of the EO is exactly why TAAG and DAWN took this administration to court: Our lawsuit argued that the EO violates our First Amendment rights as American citizens to speak, associate, and engage in Palestine-related human rights advocacy with these parties. As a founding member of TAAG, I can tell you firsthand how these sanctions have prevented us and organizations like DAWN from being able to continue our work sharing evidence and advocacy ideas with people like Albanese and ICC officials, because the definition of “service” is so broad and undefined — the US can interpret it as being anything that confers a benefit to the recipient.
In an October 9 video of Marco Rubio announcing the actions against the ICC, he tries defending the administration’s actions by calling the ICC a “rogue court,” which the U.S. is “not subject to the jurisdiction of.” But Rubio leaves out a fundamental principle of international law: A country does not have to join the ICC for its nationals to fall within the Court’s jurisdiction.
If a country that is not a State Party to the Rome Statute commits a war crime on the lands of a country that is a state party, the perpetrator of that crime can be investigated. Given that Palestine is a State Party to the Rome Statute, and that Gaza (and the West Bank) are classified as Occupied Palestinian Territories by the United Nations, the ICC has every right to investigate and prosecute the United States and Israel for the insurmountable war crimes committed against my family members and thousands of other innocent civilians.
It is clear that the only “protections” this administration are seeking are for the citizens responsible for aiding and abetting war crimes, which after three years, we have plenty of evidence of. Anthony Aguilar, a retired US special forces officer and whistleblower who resigned from his work with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid distribution centers in Gaza, has gone on record saying he saw the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) shooting at crowds of Palestinians, and in an interview with the BBC says he saw Israeli and American military forces of the GHF using an “indiscriminate and unnecessary force against a civilian population, an unarmed, starving population.”
Rubio consistently mentions the idea of “protecting American citizens” from investigations by the ICC, but the citizens he is referring to are the ones committing the war crimes he doesn’t want investigated. What about American citizens whose families have been killed with U.S.-supplied weapons? Who protects our right to seek justice?
In sanctioning the entirety of the ICC, the Trump administration is not only trying to cripple any attempt to hold them accountable for their war crimes, but they’re also telling American citizens like myself that if you dare to seek justice for the family members you’ve lost, we’ll imprison you.
The struggle for accountability moves forward
Now that the courts sided with us in our lawsuit, we are finally able to prepare for the next steps ahead.
With the injunction in place, TAAG is now moving forward to finalize its evidence submission and plans to imminently send this to the ICC. We are also rallying support, within the US and beyond, for human rights organizations and advocates for the ICC to act responsibly upon this massive collection of evidence, in hopes that more parties take appropriate legal actions where possible. We fundamentally believe that grassroots movements like ours, and so many throughout the world, are the ones who must step up where our leadership has failed, and build the democratic, popular power capable of ensuring that legal action against genocide is taken and enforced.
We also hope that our actions inspire more American citizens to speak up against this administration and the priorities of our government. I helped found Taxpayers Alliance Against Genocide because I’m sick of our tax dollars being used against my own family in Gaza, while our communities here in the U.S. suffer from a lack of housing, education and healthcare. Those of us within TAAG recognize that we have a duty as American citizens to hold our nation accountable for the war crimes they commit, not just in Gaza but all over the world. We will not rest until we’ve exhausted every avenue to seek justice and accountability for these war crimes. We will continue collecting evidence, and pursuing every available legal avenue, moving forward with our crucial evidence work for a prospective submission to the ICC and advance our efforts to hold U.S. officials accountable for crimes against humanity.
We will not be intimidated into abandoning our work, our families, or the principle that no one is above the law.

The Change by Kirsten Miller
I think I discovered this book because of the Book Cougars. I watch so many YouTube book reviewers though that I am not sure.
The Change is about three women who find the body of a young girl stashed in a garbage bag and thrown over the side of a rode. They discover that she is one of several missing girls.
The main characters are Nessa James, a widow with twin daughters, Harriet Osborne a woman whose career and marriage was destroyed at the same time, and Jo Levison a woman who owns a fitness center designed to give women back their strength in more ways than one. Jo is happily married and has a young daughter.
Nessa has a special ability to speak with the dead. When they discover the first body, she becomes aware of more.
The women take it upon themselves to investigate and give closure to all the families. They quickly realize the deaths are connected to a gated community not too far from where the bodies were disposed of.
This story gave me vibes of the Epstein files. It’s about those with wealth who think their needs are more important than life itself. The copyright is 2022 so that may have sparked an idea.
I don’t usually read fantasy, but this one felt more like a mystery. The more I read, I realize how the boundaries of genre seem to sometimes be harder to define. This one does have a little paranormal storyline because of Nessa’s special ability, Harriet likes to work with plants, and Jo finds her strength in an odd way.
I picked this one up to read now because we were moving into the spooky time and it had witchy vibes.
I had a friend who reviewed it on Goodreads and was disappointed in the book because of some of the violence. I get that but I also think that reading it now having watched how our current administration is refusing to investigate the Epstein files and punish those who are guilty, it makes a little more sense to me. I understood the need for the violence to clear out the evil that had saturated the community.
It is a story about how one person can make a difference and how three women made a change.
It is well written. I enjoyed it and would look more from this author in the future.
This book is a commitment at 470 pages in hardcover and counts toward my unending books on my shelf to read. I like books at 300 pages or less, but this one seemed like a fast read.

I had a couple of bookish adventures this past week. Both were at Beaverdale Books, a local indie bookstore. The first was an author event with D. M. Pulley. She was promoting her book Stone Mad. She is an architect and has a love for old buildings. She finds buildings with a reputation for being haunted along with a possible real-life crime and creates a mystery. I purchased her newest release Stone Mad and can’t wait to read it. I will be reading her backlist as well.
My second bookish adventure was also at Beaverdale Books. Four authors from my Sister’s in Crime chapter came to play a game with the readers. It was interactive. We helped choose the main character, setting, motive, weapon, and a few other tools in the making of a mystery. We helped show the readers what it is like to develop a mystery as it is written. It was fun and there were treats.
Let me know if you have a good book I need to read.
Happy Reading!

Each time our institutions decide to weaken our fundamental rights to benefit corporate interests,
We get closer to a world where the people have completely lost trust in these institutions and the system collapses entirely.
In the end, this will not benefit anyone, not even greedy corporations.
Fundamental rights aren't some pesky principles to get rid of in order to make profits, they are critical to a functioning society.
