“The pro-Palestine movement has been so successful in separating opposition to Israeli atrocities from hatred toward Jews that there has been zero increase in public hatred toward Jews throughout three years of genocide. That’s an incredibly impressive achievement in activism and education regarding a mass atrocity we’re always told is a super duper complicated issue that’s almost impossible to understand.“

  5. Ah, bless. Lovely interaction with Lou Delouze (last year's winning JESC performer) and Dara (winner of the senior version of Junior Eurovision).

There's a Common Song for this year's performers. Loo break.

Floor management here is atrocious: people walking into position and wandering across shot. Carmella Milne would never put up with this.

Absolutely no pattern to the jury vote, ends up as a narrow win for FT over TVE and AMPTV. But just 11 points between the top three, we're more used to a 50-point lead.

78 televote points for SMRTV! On top of the scoreboard!!!!!! But only for a few minutes. but FOURTH PLACE!!!!!! They'll be dancing on the street of San Marino tonight!

99 televote points for AMPTV! That's the winner!

"Boo!" from Naré is the winner. Guess we're back in Yerevan next year.

  6. I see sentiment that there's "good AI," but I think I'll have to disagree.

I've seen tools that are intended to help artists—i.e. "close this hand," "change these eyes," stuff that takes more fiddling with to get looking right—and I still can't quite condone their use at all.

Your job as an artist is to figure this stuff out. You are literally here because you understand translating 3D concepts to 2D images; generative AI, no matter how small in its applications, is going to cause any of your skills to atrophy. It often relies on datacenters, which are *still* guzzling water and having drastic effects on farmers across the globe. It's a global warming machine that takes away our knowledge and replaces it with dependence.

We should never be using AI to create, nor as a mentor or teacher.

  7. Exact, the market leading bookkeeping system that big enterprises use, and is forced on clients by accountants all over my neck of the woods, charges at least €100 monthly for a subscription.

Their user interface is bad. So bad that I would have found it unacceptable 20y ago. It takes seven actions to change a number field and then it silently reverts the change if you don't hit a particular key before you hit the save button. Batch edit only for the fields you don't want to edit. That kind of bad 🤮

    Their API isn't much better.

Now I am surrounded by enthusiasm in the financial department about the fact that it seems to be possible to vibe code around this atrocity, so at least we don't have to endure it directly.

But I'm thinking that's not nearly the flex people make it out to be.

What if we would build a properly functioning FOSS bookkeeping software? Wouldn't that make all of our lives much easier?

An Intro to a Daily Mail Post

Who Is Hamas (PHOTO from The Jewish Educator Portal under title “Who Is Hamas?”)

Intro by John R. Houk, Blog Editor

    Intro © October 23, 2026

If it originates in the UK, I’ve always assumed a sympathy for Left-Wing these days. I came across a U.S. version of the Daily Mail with the title, “Hamas issues ‘unprecedented’ warning it is prepared to carry out a repeat of the October 7 massacre”.

Since I know the Daily Mail has UK origins (ABOUT & LEADERSHIP), I was a bit surprised by a warning about Islamic Terrorism. So I did some political spectrum checking. According to Biasly.com the Daily Mail is 50/50 leaning Right. Quizlet.com has a list of UK Media which lists the Daily Mail as Conservative and Right-wing.

And so, I share this short Daily Mail post that was actually updated for 10/23/26. AND I will use an intro title that will probably get censored as against Community Standards from the Blogger Platform (owned by Google) where my blog SlantRight 2.0 is located. Today Blogger censored this 10/21/26 post exposing Red-Green Alliance in France Riots which can be read at Substack (John’s Newsletter) and WordPress (Conservative-Patriot Christian Right).

And so an Intro title to the Daily Mail post, I’m going with HAMAS=ISLAM=EVIL TERRORISM.

Hamas issues ‘unprecedented’ warning it is prepared to carry out a repeat of the October 7 massacre

    By FRANCINE WOLFISZ, NEWS REPORTER

    Published: 14:39 EDT, 22 October 2026 | Updated: 04:23 EDT, 23 October 2026

    Daily Mail

Hamas has threatened to repeat the October 7 massacre in an ‘unprecedented’ warning to Israel, as the terrorist group faces mounting pressure to disarm.

The group said it would be prepared to unleash violence against targets in Israel, Judea, Samaria and abroad whenever the opportunity arises, according to the chilling message.

UN humanitarian coordinator Dr Ramiz Alakbarov was tasked with conveying the threat to the Israeli leadership by senior Hamas officials, who met him last week at his office in Gaza, Ynet reported.

They informed Alakbarov that Hamas was struggling financially and losing control over the Gaza Strip, largely due to continuing Israeli military operations and the shifting of the Yellow Line demarcating the border with Israel.

Hamas has also grown frustrated by the actions of Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas, who cancelled the elections scheduled for the end of November.

Alakbarov is understood to have met Major General Yoram Halevy, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), to pass on the warning.

Insiders are said to have described the threat by Hamas as ‘unprecedented’ in its directness.

The threat comes just after Israel announced a Hamas terrorist who took part in abducting and killing Shani Louk on October 7 had been killed in an air strike in northern Gaza.

Tamer Muhammad Ibrahim al-Sabbagh was the final member of a Hamas cell deemed responsible for the 22-year-old Israeli civilian’s death.

Three other Hamas cell members were killed earlier in the conflict, while one has been captured by Israeli forces.

Infamous photos taken by AP freelance photographer Ali Mahmud showed a half-naked woman, later identified as the German-Israeli, lying unconscious face-down in the back of a pickup truck in Gaza.

Footage spread of her being paraded through the streets of Gaza by a group of armed men, becoming one of the symbols for Hamas’ atrocities and raising concern over her welfare.

The tattoo artist was kidnapped from the Nova music festival near Re’im on October 7, 2023, and died in the Gaza Strip.

In late October 2023, forensic examiners confirmed Ms Louk’s death after they identified a piece of her skull.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers operating in Gaza located Ms Louk’s remains in May 2024 and returned her to Israel for burial.

According to the IDF, al-Sabbagh had carried out advanced attacks on Israeli troops and civilians and acted to restore Hamas’s capabilities ‘in systematic violation of the ceasefire’.

‘The terrorist was eliminated in order to remove the threat he posed,’ the IDF said.

Elsewhere, the Board of Peace and international mediators have repeated demands for Hamas to disarm.

The condition is necessary for the US-brokered ceasefire, which calls for eventual reconstruction of the territory.

But little progress has been made as negotiators have failed to agree terms for Hamas to surrender its weapons and Israel to withdraw its troops.

Israeli airstrikes have stepped up in recent weeks. At least 1,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire, according to the territory’s health officials, while Israel says four soldiers have been killed.

Palestinian authorities say more than 74,000 people have been killed in Israel’s assault on Gaza, launched after Hamas terrorists killed 1,200 people during the October 7 atrocities.

  10. Film Study: ‘The Exorcist’ and where horror suddenly became more complex

Cream presents a fresh column that highlights the films you really ought to have seen by now. From cinema’s early days of flickering silent pictures to contemporary CGI-packed blockbusters, and plenty of low-budget indie flicks in between, this is the column to turn to before ogling your movie streaming options.

Bit of a freaky one now: William Friedkin’s The Exorcist.

    Text by Rohan Stephens

THE EXORCIST, 1973. Dir., William Friedkin.

    What is it?

The self-proclaimed “scariest movie of all time” and still fairly bang on the mark, The Exorcist is nothing short of a masterpiece when it comes to storytelling and filmmaking. It’s the film with the head spin. The film with the green vomit. The one with the girl levitating from the bed. The girl who fucks herself with a crucifix. It’s the film that started it all, really. And it’s still scary as hell.

People fainting, vomiting, rushing out screaming, convulsing in their seats, all contributed to what was already a fairly robust cultural mythology around what was referred to as ‘The Exorcist Effect’.

Based on the novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty and directed by William Friedkin, the plot follows the demonic possession of a 12-year-young girl as she is tortured close to death in front of her mother by a force claiming to be the Devil himself. Staring Ellen Burnstyn and Linda Blair as mother and daughter, the film went on to become one of the first horror movies ever nominated for Best Picture at the 1974 Academy Awards, along with having earned nine other nominations.

The story of the film’s initial release is riddled with anecdotes of people needing all kinds of medical attention in theatres due to its terrifying content. People fainting, vomiting, rushing out screaming, convulsing in their seats, all contributed to what was already a fairly robust cultural mythology around what was referred to as ‘The Exorcist Effect’. Whole documentaries have been produced about the astounding interest and fear the film generated at the time, garnering the attention and eventual condemnation from most of the world’s major Catholic institutions. Even The Exorcist‘s original theatrical trailer is worth a look, having been banned from cinemas for being ‘too terrifying’.

‘The Exorcist’ is attributed as having paved the way for a slew of equally classy and successful projects such as ‘The Omen’ and ‘Rosemary’s Baby’, where complex and physiological narratives delved deeper than before, providing longer, more disturbing reactions than simply short, cheap or gory scares.

The film’s most obvious disturbing quality is the slow and inexplicable torture of a young girl, however on a deeper level it’s also the narrative of watching a priest questioning his own faith even in the face of what is clearly a demonic force. After being hauled before a series of doctors and therapists all with inconclusive results, Regan (Blair) and her mother (Burstyn) turn to the church as a last resort to deal with her increasingly disturbing behaviour. It’s almost not until the film’s climax do we see Father Karras (Jason Miller) really buy into the severity of the issue despite the graphic events unfolding before him. Watching him observe Regan literally rotting away in her own body but not having the belief in himself, or his faith to help, really is one of the film’s more poignant moments.

Just to make things a little freakier, Friedkin employs one of best known uses of subliminal messages in cinema. Several times throughout the story and more so in subsequently extended editions released on DVD, we see the horrific face of the demon that is lurking inside of Regan, with its bulging eyes and sharpened teeth – but only fleetingly. It passes across the screen almost like a mistake in the editing booth but it is burned into our eyelids so that we cannot ‘look away’ even if we wanted to.

Why should I have already seen it?

The Exorcist was a pivotal moment in movie history: a superbly produced gem of a movie in a genre consistently delivering atrocious product. With its backlog riddled with camp monsters, poor production values and equally poor acting, horror historically (with some exceptions) wasn’t a category of film to be taken seriously, either critically or commercially. The Exorcist is attributed as having paved the way for a slew of equally classy and successful projects such as The Omen and Rosemary’s Baby, where complex and physiological narratives delved deeper than before, providing longer, more disturbing reactions than simply short, cheap or gory scares. Evidently, it seemed to do for Catholicism what Jaws did for swimming in the ocean. It carried the effect outside the theatre and into real life, which in the end is the trapping of a brilliant movie.
