OP develops a running app where runners connect their GPS watch. Some of them have marathon results on file, of which is plotted here.
A couple observations:
- Volume is king. Faster marathon runners are running more weekly volume.
- Most of that volume is slower than marathon pace. I'm a 3:12 marathoner on ~110 kmpw (~70 mpw). My marathon time makes up about the same percentage of my week as the 3:00 runners here. -
