  1. CW: National leader Christopher Luxon poses with child sex offender, shock horror

National and Act have cranked up the rhetoric this week because left-wing candidates spoke with gangs. That tactic has backfired because endless photos exist of Nat MPs doing exactly the same thing.

So for no particular reason, here's a photo of Christopher Luxon posing with convicted child sex offender Roger Buchanan.

National's vetting process is still lax. Buchanan was convicted in 2021, yet National still appointed him to their Palmerston North electorate committee.

And of course everyone remembers David Seymour protecting paedophile Tim Jago when he was Act party president.

  11. I was annoyed at todoman being slow, clunky, buggy, and having ancient UI, among other things. Planning to do a complete rewrite in rust. Same license, some bug fixes, and a cleaner UI, and maybe more features. Possibly also overengineer it to no extent.

Are people interested in hearing about this?
    I'm gonna post anyways though

  15. There's an interesting thing I've noticed about myself with the onslaught of hard-to-read AI prose seemingly everywhere. I am historically a rules lawyer (in my head, not out loud) about grammar and spelling, silently judging folks for ugly or clunky prose. AI writing has softened my position on this issue. LLMs write with excellent grammar, but they have no intention, so they can't ever really get to the point. They don't want anything, so there is no point to anything they say. They are generally bad writers because of it.

My fixation when reading now is on whether there is a clear point, something the author wants me to get, not whether the grammar is nice or the spelling is good.

I think this is telling me that I, and you, shouldn't use AI even to edit and definitely not to write. I suspect it makes your writing worse even while making it more grammatically defensible to an English teacher.

  18. 19. DRY (Don’t Repeat Yourself) matters much less in tests than it does in production code. Readability of an individual test file is more important than maintainability (breaking out reusable chunks). That’s because tests are executed and read individually rather than themselves being part of a larger system. Obviously excessive repetition means reusable components can be created for convenience, but it’s much less of a concern than it is for production.
