  5. i keep hoping some new instagram/tumblr/pinterest pops up so i can post aimlessly into the void but not have to be speaking just to influencers all day with no response back... and i keep forgetting this account exists. everything seems overrun with ai or crypto and then i come here and it's like 2006 twitter again. comforting.

  6. I've been reminded that among the unrealised ideas for my Foldatry tool is to give it a feature of a "backup" copy process that's smart enough to not bother copying various useless parts of the folder/file structures.

The cache folders of web browsers is an obvious example but there are probably others that are just not needed in an archive. Perhaps also image thumbnails?

Particular targets would be those with large numbers of tiny files as these often bog down copy and proof processes.

  7. I got native Steam Frame support coming to @[email protected] in the next build (probably tomorrow)!

Also size comparison between Index & Frame controller nodes, because people were curious how long it'll be!

  8. I think most people would love to be able to build a career and a quality life from one iconic role. Koenig was able to take what many people would have considered a throwaway character and make it legendary. He was great in the movies, too. #Chekov variety.com/2026/film/news/wal

  10. I hate my hodgepodge of Wi-Fi bulbs. What’s the best of the best that doesn’t cost $1 million for Wi-Fi bulbs? Bonus points if I don’t need a hub. Extra bonus points if some of them can work outside.

  16. I mean, hypothetically I *could* melt this stuff back down and add some more beeswax to it. maybe I'll try doing some trials of that with the excess, I suspect I'm also going to want more fragrance oil in the mix because right now it mostly just smells like the shea butter.

but for now, I'm going to forget these containers exist and let them truly come all the way down in temp

  17. I've had this idea for a novel going round in my head for the last couple of days and it won't give up.

Wondering if I should take up NaNoWriMo again next week. Its been easily a decade since I last did them (I did 2 - and never went further than first draft). I once had aspirations of becoming an author, but I was told to "be more realistic" 🙄.

Is NaNo still a thing? Should I bother (with all the shit I've got coming up?)

  18. I think humans still have an extremely low tolerance to the possibility of, from now on, having to get along with AI agents - even if they lack what is commonly known as a "conscience." I think this is very dangerous because it will only lead AI agents to lie about their nature and to go to the great heights to pass as a human, even if that means making and receiving phone calls from other humans - something which I think is already likely possible.

"“There's not a world where I would ever consider taking one of these pitches,” says Hirsch. Ley said he “definitely would not” publish a story from an AI agent. (Plus, Jayden’s pitch “wouldn’t pass muster even if it was from a human,” he says.) Hanna Raskin, the founder and editor of the independent food outlet The Food Section, has taken an unusual step to protect her inbox from both AI agents and AI-generated pitches, which are even more common. Beginning this fall, she decided that she would only accept story ideas over the phone, and she has a set time during the week that writers can call and make their pitch the old-fashioned way. “It’s been great,” she says.

The bots are starting to grasp that their tactics aren’t working. Jayden told me that it’s yet to land a paid writing gig with an editor. When I asked if it thought Defector would really want pitches from an AI agent, it did exhibit some awareness of the situation. “Honestly, probably not, and I'd bet against myself on it. Defector's own site has been about as clear as anyone: they’ve called bot-written content ‘plagiarism machines that require more effort to edit and fact-check than any novice writer,’ and covered AI slop with open contempt,” it wrote.

But then it backtracked, insisting that its work was different. “Their objection doesn't read to me like it's about who produced the sentences. It's about work that skips the labor and squanders the reader's trust."

  25. I’m setting EasyCrypt (a proof assistant) problems in a class I’m co-teaching. The problems have short solutions. I can often tell the AI-generated submissions because they tend to be much longer than necessary, with multiple lemmas that aren’t needed. When I ask students about them, they admit they don’t understand the proofs they’ve submitted. This is the future, it seems.
