Ab Dezember 2026 soll der italienische Hochgeschwindigkeitszug Frecciarossa durch Tirol fahren. Unterwegs sein wird er von München nach Mailand, beziehungsweise Rom. #Rome 🇮🇹 to #Livorno on board #IC510. This is one of #Trenitalia’s (very) long-distance daytime #InterCity trains: 11 hours from #Salerno to #Torino. It hasn’t got a #DiningCar, just an ex-#SelfService carriage with vending machines and a few bar stools.
Passing Roma S. Pietro, we see the track leading into the Vatican. It is used, for instance, if members of the College of Cardinals are travelling as a group by charter train - a stretch of line off limits for the ordinary train buff.

Good Morning from the #Trenitalia 🇮🇹 #InterCityNotte from #Sicily to #Milan. Breakfast ist served in the sleeper cabin at dawn as we pass the Cinque Terre hilltop villages. What a beautiful day at the Riviera di Levante. No opening windows on the train though, yet last night’s rain did some good cleaning work.

Leaving #Sicily 🇮🇹 for northern #Italy on this #Trenitalia #InterCityNotte, a genuine “cross-country” long distance sleeper service. About 22 hours, if one travels all the way from either #Siracusa or #Palermo through to #Milan.
Settling into the sleeper cabin, which is still in daytime “sofa” configuration. -
Good morning. After breakfast in the sleeper cabin of the #Trenitalia #InterCityNotte to #Roma 🇮🇹 Termini, a quick hop by train to Roma S. Pietro station, and Saint Peter's Square🇻🇦- still without the crowds, early in the morning. (And a welcome occasion to use the Santa Sede flag icon for once 😉.)

Tonight’s #Trenitalia 🇮🇹 #InterCityNotte #770 from #Trieste is hauled, top’n’tail, by Class E.402B electrics. It includes ex-Z1 1st and 2nd class cars, and an ex “Gran Confort” one, all rebuilt to 2+2 open plan seating. Plus a T3 (ex-T2s) sleeper and two T4 couchettes (ex UIC-X 1st class compartment seaters).

An early morning arrival into #Venice, with a crossing of the lagoon at dawn, is always something very special. -

Hmm, is it really so that for two persons, a shared #Trenitalia sleeping-car compartment ("Vagone Letto Relax — Doppio Cabina Intera") Torino–Lecce is 226€, while for a single person by themselves, the same compartment ("Vagone Letto Relax Uso SIngolo — Cabina Intera") is (only) 137€?
Doesn't seem logical to me. Either the double should be cheaper or the single higher.
(Eurail still is not able to sell a reservation for two in the same compartment.)

Voy a terminar un 2024 que como mejor podría resumirlo sería con la palabra "presión".
Llevo un par de meses leyendo mucho sobre la presión, las expectativas, la frustración...
Al final la respuesta volvió a estar en los deportistas, gente que basa su carrera en lidiar con la presión.
Y esta vez el mejor consejo lo encontré en Billie Jean King, aquella tenista de "La batalla de los sexos" (no la recordarás jugando pero sí tal vez de la peli que hizo Emma Stone).
- "La presión es un privilegio" -, decía Billie Jean King.
Y creo que más o menos la he entendido:
Sentir una sensación de presión significa que te enfrentas a una oportunidad.
Si la presión la sentimos por nosotros mismos, eso significa que tenemos un deseo de superar nuestras propias expectativas.
Si la presión es de otros eso puede significar que esperan más de nosotros porque nos ven capaces.
Tal vez si esperases más de ti mismo podrías alcanzar esas expectativas.
En lugar de ver la presión como un obstáculo hay que verla como una oportunidad de demostrar al mundo de qué pasta estás hecho.

CW: Night trains in Europe are coming back
As night trains are the superior art of traveling, I never understood why in the last decade most train companies dismantled them.
I always suspected a mixture of pseudo-modernism ("high-speed trains are more modern"), lack of cooperation among rail operators of different countries (the European rail system has more of a patchwork than a network) and the conspiracy theory of car and air travel industries lobbying against the most convenient way to travel long distances.Luckily, follks in Eastern European countries weren't as shortsighted as their counterparts in the other parts of Europe, and maintained their night trains. ÖBB is most active in bringing back night train connections in Europe. Turkyie and Ukraine are good on track, too!
