Sculpt OS 26.04 released
Sculpt OS, the operating system based on the various components that make up Genode, has seen a new release, 26.04. A lot of the new features and changes to Genode that we've been talking about for a while now are part of this release, most notably the new human-inclined data syntax that replaces XML as the configuration language for Genode. That's not the only major improvement, though.

Genode OS Framework 26.02 released
The Genode OS Framework 26.02 has been released, and its tentpole improvement is the completion of moving configuration from XML to the new human-inclined data syntax, as we talked about a few months ago. The project has been working on this for years, and now that the tooling, documentation, and so on have been added this release cycle, they're ready to make the swit

Genode OS Framework 25.11 released
The release 25.11 wraps up our year of "rigidity, clarity, performance" with a bouquet of vast under-the-hood improvements. Genode's custom kernel received special tuning of its new CPU scheduler for Sculpt-OS workloads, and became much more scalable with respect to virtual-memory management. Combined, those efforts visibly boost the performance of Sculpt OS on perfor

Sculpt OS 25.10 released
In the light of this year's roadmap focus on "rigidity, clarity, performance", Sculpt OS 25.10 looks the same as the version 25.04 but might feel different as it includes countless under-the-hood improvements of the two preceding framework releases 25.05 and 25.08. User interaction on performance-starved platforms like the PinePhone has become visibly smoother thanks our recent CPU sched

OSNews has added #gemini output (https://www.osnews.com/story/136770/osnews-launches-gemini-capsule/) and I am once again here to say how bad of a format Gemini is even though a low-spec 'Web is a good thing and I wish there was a better format. I've designed one, but gaining traction is a hopeless endeavour: https://gist.github.com/Kroc/6322deed2785ed1a744657a9dd6a1edc/ #web0 #smallweb

AI as a fascist artifact
In that reading „AI“ is a machine for the creation of epistemic injustice and the replacement of truth with what a tech elite wants it to be in order to control the population. This is a Fascist project that not so subtly aligns with Fascism’s totalitarian will to power and control as well as its reliance in replacing reasoning and debate with belief in power and the leader.

"The #userinterfaces of the late ’90s were the last ones designed by people who actually cared, by people who approached the whole process with the end user in mind, rooted in scientific data collected by simply looking at people use their ideas. They were optimised for the user as best they could, instead of being optimised for the company’s bottom line.
It’s been downhill ever since."From:

ArcaOS 5.1.2 released
While IBM's OS/2 technically did die, its development was picked up again much later, first through eComStation, and later, after money issues at its parent company Mensys, through ArcaOS. eComStation development stalled because of the money issues and has been dead for years; ArcaOS picked up where it left off and has been making steady progress since its first release in 2017. Regardless, the d

Honestly, while I *am* a fan of FOSS projects securing funding, I'm really not so sure I agree that the Ladybird project being underwritten by a billionaire is actually good news at all.

OpenAI announces GPT-4
We’ve created GPT-4, the latest milestone in OpenAI’s effort in scaling up deep learning. GPT-4 is a large multimodal model (accepting image and text inputs, emitting text outputs) that, while less capable than humans in many real-world scenarios, exhibits human-level performance on various professional and academic benchmarks. For example, it passes a simulated bar exam with a score arou

The data is abundantly clear: the EU Digital Markets Act is working
The EU's Digital Markets Act has been in effect for a mere two years, but despite all the obstructionism, malicious compliance, and steady stream of lies from US tech companies and Apple in particular, it seems this rather basic consumer protection legislation is already bearing fruit.

I expect Scientific & Research #Software and made for Professionals to have higher processing and RAM demands, & #Apple as I said before no longer makes real #WorkStations much less ones w/ECC RAM.
#NationalInstruments must have dumped them as a sinking ship for a very good reason.
This is the consequence of that Company’s behavior, and I’m willing to bet more developers will pull out in the near future.
