I know this isn't really the best place to ask but (for fear of shaming others, I'll keep this post about myself)...how many computers is too many #computers ? Between my work laptop, and my personal computing devices at home, I feel I am in the realm of "too many", as in double digits. I fear they are just becoming distractions and I'm edging on hoarder territory. I can't be the only one that sees a shiny new doohickey and immediately wants it. (fucking capitalism) I really only have need for 1 personal computing device and maybe a tablet. The older I get the easier it is to not be drawn to new and shiny but the tickle is still there. So I think it's time to do a little hardware detox and simplify my life. Nothing worse than having to keep multiple systems updated to just sit around and collect dust.

But that's #hp - level #Assholeism, they do the same with #hp-branded #RAM on their #ProBook|s and #DeskMini as well as #Z-Series #Workstations and brick #unattended & #PXE #boot in the process...

I need to look into re-learning #thermodynamics.
#Motherboard says the #CPU #core #temps are around 10C higher than what the #heatsinks are (I built my own #sensor set for this machine - because I wanted to.)
Granted, this is one of the old E5-2600v2 series #motherboards in the computer I'm typing on right now.. (different computer, not the server - waiting for #Amazon to deliver my new #frelling CPU coolers), an X9DRH-7TF by SuperMicro, so maybe that's #normal?
Yeah, I know, WAY overkill for a #workstation, but it's also a #pull from a previous #server iteration, so...
Yes, I'm #weird. I upgrade my #servers, then my #workstations get all the old #parts.

New desk layout roughly implemented. Still need the table legs to get the right side off of a cooler and some milk crates, and ill probably rearrange the monitor setup once I can actually put weight over there. Cable straps coming tomorrow hopefully so I can fix that nightmare, and get back to tinkering with my SBC NAS.

More drawers and cabinets as well as wall shelving coming soon also.

I might work on a blog rant about the #unix on Desktop = #Workstation claim, albeit with a little nuance, that said, #workstations sold today aren’t necessarily free of Windows or #Linux, #Apple’s #UnifiedMemory lacks the Error Correction that #ECCRAM does and it might come to #MacPro’s after they dump #IntelXeon completely, and so on.
