A guilty plea, a no-show, rescheduled for convenience and discharged of assault charges. After a Swiss man came to #Ottawa and struck a Palestinian woman on video at a weapons fair, he only has to pay $5000.
We spoke with people who were there.

Heads up: the City of Ottawa had a public meeting on Monday to present plans for reconstruction of Rochester and Booth streets from Gladstone to the 417. They did a terrible job of telling anybody about it.
Anyway, there are plans to add #OttBike facilities on both streets, integrating into the Gladstone Gilmour bikeway (which still has to go to committee for approval... maybe in August)
See plans at https://ottawa.ca/RochesterBooth

From @sjamieit.bsky.social:
The City of Ottawa posted the raw speed data from before and after Doug Ford banned speed cameras and the effect is so obvious it's not even necessary put a line marking when that happened.
This chart shows the percentage of drivers going 15km/h or more over the posted limit.

FFS the Ottawa Citizen is regurgitating official stats again. They acknowledge the comparison is BS, but report it as fact anyway:

How about total foot traffic to City Hall? Has that declined too? Attendance in the Council and committee galleries?
I, for one, haven't even tried going to City Hall because I'm sure my bike tools will be classified as "dangerous". What am I going to do? Leave my "dangerous" equipment on my bike where it can be stolen?

Jeff Leiper has formally registered to run for mayor of #Ottawa! Sign up to volunteer/donate/take a sign here!
Jeff is the hardest working person on council. He pays attention to details while finding pragmatic solutions to problems in the city and pushing for more transparency and common sense. End the decline, vote Jeff for Mayor!

"Mayor Mark Sutcliffe could face some formidable competition in the mayoral race as a number of high-profile candidates are poised to kick off their campaigns with the nomination period opening on Friday."
Multiple candidates often give the incumbent an advantage as the votes for change are split amongst candidates.

If this government led by Doug Ford focused less on questionable spending, this wouldn’t keep happening. A $28.9M jet feels out of touch when people need support for housing, food, education, and healthcare. #ottpoli #onpoli #politic #canada #ontario #cons

The customary introduction post, pinned for now.
I moved here from mstdn.ca partly as a result of the controversy there but also because ottawa.place is where I would have been if I knew about it when I first came to Mastodon.
I also have a blog ( http://the5thc.blogspot.com/ ) and a GPS maps site ( https://gpstrailmaps.blogspot.com/ ) and a youtube channel which is mostly slideshows of my photos ( https://www.youtube.com/@richardwwoodley/videos ).
My bio here reads: Retired Parliamentary Indexer. Socialist, political observer and sometime activist with HBA in Political Science, Laurentian University, 1973. Outdoorsperson, environmentalist, cyclist and former mountain biker. Amateur photographer and mapmaker.
#canpoli #ottbike #ottpoli #ottawa #photographyAnd I see I have already taken advantage of the over 500 character limit.
