Something a bit different tomorrow - I’m off to walk up to the highest point in the county of Cornwall with my son. And then on Tuesday we will walk up to the highest points in Devon and Somerset. Maybe the start of a mission to tick off all the county tops of England perhaps? #hiking

like i forgot about it and thought this was one of their old Blind Pig concerts (like the one with the old Time Machine demo), and it took me an entire minute to process the fact that 2026 is THIS YEAR and i'm IN IT and they're BACK

Homeless in Houston 2
Sarah: "I'm a waittress." "I felt a pain in my hip..." "It sounded like a snapping rubber band..." "I displaced my hip."
"Nobody likes a limping waittress. That makes them feel bad."
She knew she was losing her employment. She told Manny: "Brace for impact." Then they lost their home.
God tells us the same. Everything will soon change for everyone. Brace for impact.

“In his closing midterm pitch to voters, Trump has not been subtle. If Republicans win, you get paid. If not, tough luck.
Trump’s Bribe State is a bewildering mix of empty promises and real benefits—and punishments. It is easy to dismiss it, but worth taking seriously the mechanics of how it is being built, which involves a framework that allows automated payments to some families, even as the Trump administration is adding burdens to the most vulnerable. It also provides a promise to billionaires—that they can use the Bribe State to buy off dissent.”

Day three of COVID and it looks like I'm finally on the mend. Nose no longer constantly streaming, my constant headache has receded considerably, throat feels more bruised than like a raw wound, I'm less achey all over, and my skin is no longer sore to touch. I still have a "chesty" cough and I'm rather dizzy, but I don't think I'll have to spend another day in bed.
If that is a typical response to the current strain AFTER vaccination (two weeks ago), I dread to think how hard it hits without any priming of the immune system.
Stay safe out there, folks.

Hey followers! I’m currently part-time contracting at the wonderful https://convocation.design/ where I get to work on internet freedom and privacy/security projects but I’m also looking for other projects to fill me days that I’m not working for Convocation.
If y’all have projects where you need a designer who has worked on complex UI systems, typically for skill-proficient people, and want more usable and accessible to non-proficient users then I’m your designer/researcher!
Check out more of my work on my updated website https://erioldoesdesign.github.io/
I’ve worked primarily on privacy, security, civic tech, open science, open source software tools and the digital rights space for over 8 years and I’ve worked on commercial/proprietary tech for another 6 years, totally over 15 years of designing for people across technology. I’m a detailed user researcher and typically employ a ‘just enough’ research approach to make meaningful changes to user bases of tools.

This is one of the arguments/stories I'm going to tell in my talk "Mapping Biases to Testing in the LLM era" at Oredev and the Agile Testing Days in November.
I will also make a video of this talk after those conferences have happened.
And that will be my last contribution to tech for the foreseeable future.
