@[email protected] there is "The Outlaws", a black comedy from the BBC about doing community service in Bristol, where one of the characters, Lady Gabriella "Gabby" Penrose-Howe, is an influencer (with issues).
I had thought her character was a Stephen Merchant darkest satire until I saw it.
(If you haven't seen it, Christopher Walken is excellent albeit with a haircut that is almost a crime in itself.)

@jalefkowit I used to live in #KingstonOntario when I went to #QueensUniversity, which has a medical program and is partnered with a teaching hospital, and combined with the physics department, required enough oxygen to support Kingston Oxygen supply, KO2 for short.
We saw all these KO2 trucks driving around and came up with a tounge-in-cheek conspiracy theory... KO2 is an oxygen cabal! Stop supporting them by not breathing 🤣
It was before the whole "Big $MONOPOLY", but Big Oxygen!

“An alleged independent filmmaker named Matthew Schneider sued six private trackers for infringing copyrights on some films that he supposedly made. For months, the filmmaker sought to get Cloudflare to unmask operators of the trackers through a copyright fight, which went on until trackers alerted the court last month that Schneider appeared to be an impostor.
“In a sworn declaration, the actual filmmaker behind the movies cited in the complaint wrote that he had no association to the plaintiff in the case. ‘I am not involved in, nor have I ever appeared in, this case,’ Schneider wrote.
“To keep the copyright fight alive, the plaintiff swore, ‘I’m a different Matthew Schneider.’ He then claimed to have coincidentally made three films with the same exact titles as the other filmmaker’s movies.”

It reminded me of the scene in CHAPLIN (1992) where Charlie Chaplin enters the brand-new movie business working for the early comedy impresario Mack Sennett, and we see a bunch of misfits and amateurs inventing everything about moviemaking through trial and error.

This was one of the things that attracted me to the early Web -- it was accessible enough that you got people from all kinds of backgrounds hacking on it. The little crowd of us who hacked on Web stuff in the university computer lab (showing my age here) had some CS types, but I was a poli sci major, another person was a music major, someone else was studying philosophy. You got all these perspectives bumping up against each other. It was an interesting intellectual scene, in the way most computer scenes were very much not.
Does that happen anymore? I legitimately wonder

BrowserStack used to have a very useful tool where you could paste in a URL and get back screenshots of how it looks on dozens of different devices and browser versions. That tool seems to have been abandoned in favor of one that expects to be connected to an AI agent, presumably on the theory that pasting in a URL was too much work for people
