Had a rare positive experience with customer support, so I thanked her & wished her a great day, as is only right. And then, because no good experience must go unruined in this day & age, the company is now asking me to rate her.
I *never* want to rate people. I'll very rarely rate a *company*, but I simply refuse to contribute to this exploitative practice. But I'm worried that even not leaving a vote will be used against the poor employee.
Is there any "good" choice here?

Does anyone know of a free/libre solitaire collection which allows two people to compete, and which either runs in the browser on works on Linux? Asking for an older family member who so far isn't impressed with KPatience and its lack of a competitive element.

If I wanted to know what concerts were played on the date 2006-06-21 in a certain city, where or how could I get that information? Sorting through search results full of totally unrelated dates and events seems useless.

#ScribesAndMakers 17 Dec: Answer, continued.
As for #NeverwinterNights, I've indeed wasted countless hours since that game's release (and later its enhanced edition) trying to create... something, anything worth sharing. In fact I'm still working on a module, or rather the first module in a trilogy. I started this one a few years ago, chipping away at it on and off, and for the first time it's actually starting to look promising. Maybe in another five years I'll finally finish the first part.

"2002's Neverwinter Nights gets a patch in 2025 from 'unpaid software engineers' "
I spent *so* many hours of the early 2000s messing around with the NWN toolset, even been toying with the enhanced edition on and off since it came out. It's great that it's still going strong so many years later, though honestly I'm still waiting for NWN3 (and Icewind Dale 2 Enhanced Edition, sigh). https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2025/01/2002s-neverwinter-nights-gets-a-patch-in-2025-from-unpaid-software-engineers/

Currently reading my way through Frédéric Mistral's memoirs in the original Provençal and French translation side by side. It's a bit of a challenge ... I understand maybe 25% of the Provençal and 90% of the French.
I have to say, with apologies to Mistral, but I'm not a great fan of the Mistralian norm he developed for Provençal.

New #introduction. Hi! I'm Sebastian from #Denmark though I write mostly in English. I love #books & #writing, mainly #fantasy & #SciFi, as well as #RoleplayingGames.
Currently editing my 1st #novel, set in the south of France, about an 11-year old witch who fears her father is an evil dragon.
I like #linguistics & #languages (of which I speak #Danish, English, & some #French, as well as dabbling in #Spanish, #Provençal, & now #Korean) as well as #math, #ComputerScience, & #science in general.

Long shot, but does (or did) anyone on here have a female salmon-pink tarantula (lasiodora parahybana)? I'd love to hear about your experience with/of it.
How big is it, and how much does it weigh? Have you ever held it in your hands, and if so, what is it like to hold? What is its personality like? Cautious or adventurous, active or mostly sitting still, for example.
Photos or video welcome.

Finished #NonaTheNinth by #TamsynMuir not too long ago. I love this series (and Nona, naturally), but damn, I'm starting to think it's not a series you should read in installments. The long breaks in between reading each book are making it really hard to follow what's going on.
My advice to anyone wanting to read them: buy them when they come out to support the author, but wait to read them until the series is done. Or read them more than once, I suppose that also works. #Books #Bookstodon

#ScribesAndMakers 15: What's going well with your creative work so far this month?
I just had a potential epiphany the other day about a scene in book 2, so that's really nice. Other than that, I'm waiting for feedback from a friend on book 2, so I'm not actually working on the books right now. Funny how epiphanies always seem to come while you're not working on the thing. Just shows how important it is to let your brain rest and focus on other things from time to time, too.

Five lying noses 🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥 for #TheLieTree by #FrancesHardinge. A terrific whodunnit with a mystical twist. Between this and Cuckoo Song I'm really enjoying Hardinge's writings. #Books #Bookstodon

Finished reading The Annotated Arabian Nights, a gorgeous book and new translation of these classic tales, with a lot of added background on their origin. I've never read other collections of 1001 Nights, so I don't know how it compares, although it does seem to contain a more limited set of stories than some.

Finished "The Last Man" by Mary Shelley. A beautiful, if somewhat dense and long-winded, story about the slow death of humanity due to a plague. Published in 1826 but set in the 2090s, Shelley probably couldn't have possibly imagined what the 21st century would actually look like, but it's clear that not much has changed in terms of human behavior despite our technological advancement.

It’s fastelavn (carnival) here in Denmark, but instead of the classic fastelavn buns I made vegan blueberry and chocolate chip muffins 😋

It’s #Fastelavn here in Denmark and that means yummy buns in our tummies! I think my #vegan #fastelavnsboller were real winners this year. Definitely keeping this recipe 🤤

Det går op for mig hvorfor Bilka hedder Bilka. Det er jo fordi dem med bil ka', mens man ikke skænker en tanke til dem til fods og på cykel.

Going to vent some frustration. Feel free to ignore.
I used to think that most people were basically good, deep down, or at least I never used to actively consider the opposite: that most people aren't good, not even deep down. The last 6 years have made it really hard not to draw this opposite conclusion.

First Covid & half the population going apeshit crazy at the merest suggestion that maybe we should all do a little to prevent millions of people from dying, and then we just collectively stuck our heads in the sand while we continue getting sick of an increasing number of infectious diseases we've decided to "live with".
Then Trump, Musk... that entire cesspool of Nazi excrement, and I've never seen so many Teslas in my neighborhood. How hard is it to not buy the overpriced Nazi car?

Then Israel's live-streamed genocide of Palestinians, and people still watch Eurovision like, what does it take to make people boycott a song contest? The easiest boycott imaginable, and people won't even do that. Does Israel have to torture and rape Palestinian children live on stage before people stop watching or what will it take?

And now the uncritical adoption of "AI". People frothing at the mouth to destroy everything good in the world, just to generate more fake cat videos.
And that's just some of what the last 6-10 years have done to shake my fundamental faith in humanity. I'm not perfect myself, far from it, and I don't expect anyone else to be perfect, but sometimes I feel like I must belong to a very tiny minority of people who at least try to care just a little.

I know we're all gushing over Harris' pick of VP, not that other guy, but I read #HillbillyElegy by #JDVance. Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed it, not because I think Vance is a great guy with great ideas (anyone who'd associate with Trump has clearly lost touch with reality, if they ever had it), but because it's a perfectly enjoyable story with insights into the minds and problems of a certain subset of American society (not necessarily insights Vance himself would agree with).

#WordWeavers 16: Would your WIP still work if you changed the gender of your MC?
I *think* book 1 would still technically work if Anaïs and Nadia were boys, although a few details would need to change and I'm not sure it would be quite the same story.
Book 2 (and probably book 4) would need some significant changes. Is it possible? Perhaps, but I'm not sure it would be for the better.

I love hearing about new discoveries in #mathematics! I don't think this has been peer reviewed yet, but pretty cool if it holds up!
Mathematicians discover #AperiodicMonotile, or "einstein" shape: a shape that can be tessellated such that it never forms a repeating grid. #math #maths https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/apr/03/new-einstein-shape-aperiodic-monotile

Took me 2 months because of distractions, but I finally finished reading the #Shahnameh, the Persian Book of Kings by Ferdowsi. I had feared a long, dry read but was pleasantly surprised by the rich, colorful tales of ancient Persia, half fiction half history.
Were even a few women who kicked ass, which was a pleasant surprise, although (surprise surprise) many did end up in one king's harem or another only to be forgotten on the next page in favor of some new favorite wife. #Bookstodon #Books

I’m a bit stunned at how well this turned out 😮 Couscous with vegan “chicken wings” (made of tofu and jackfruit). The wings are based on a recipe from the book Korean Vegan by Joanne Lee Molinaro.

My third read of the year, a Classic (for certain values of Classic 😆 ): The Crystal Shard by R.A. Salvatore, first book (first published at least) in the legend of Drizzt the drow and Icewind Dale.
I loved the old #IcewindDale games, especially the second (alas that it didn't get an enhanced edition), and I've always been curious about these old D&D novels. So it was about time I got started.
Apparently Salvatore's first book, which shows, but still good nostalgia.
