I translated Lovecraft's short story 'The Cats of Ulthar' into Provençal as best as I could. I'm sure I made plenty of errors since I'm still far from fluent, but I figured it was short and would make for fun practice.
Feedback is welcome. https://www.stveje.dk/cats_ulthar/

Introduktionstid! 👋

I translated (or tried my best anyway) the play "Le Drac" by George Sand, first published in 1861.
Like myself in the books I'm writing, Sand was inspired by the traditional Provençal legend of the drac, but Sand's play presents a somewhat different, more playful version of this being.
It was a fun challenge, if not always easy, and I'm sure I've made plenty of mistakes 😳 https://www.stveje.dk/george_sand/drac/

At last, my introduction to the #Provençal #language has been updated and expanded! All the previous parts have been consolidated into one (massive) page, and the whole thing is essentially complete, although I'll keep making improvements here and there as I keep learning.

(I'm having some issues with my newly updated website, but hopefully most of it is working and the remaining bugs will be caught soon.) #Occitan #LanguageLearning

A two-reply back-and-forth about how a sequel-opening line creates “wait, what?!” curiosity and keeps readers going.

I’m a bit stunned at how well this turned out 😮 Couscous with vegan “chicken wings” (made of tofu and jackfruit). The wings are based on a recipe from the book Korean Vegan by Joanne Lee Molinaro.

#WordWeavers 16: Would your WIP still work if you changed the gender of your MC?
I *think* book 1 would still technically work if Anaïs and Nadia were boys, although a few details would need to change and I'm not sure it would be quite the same story.
Book 2 (and probably book 4) would need some significant changes. Is it possible? Perhaps, but I'm not sure it would be for the better.

And now the uncritical adoption of "AI". People frothing at the mouth to destroy everything good in the world, just to generate more fake cat videos.
And that's just some of what the last 6-10 years have done to shake my fundamental faith in humanity. I'm not perfect myself, far from it, and I don't expect anyone else to be perfect, but sometimes I feel like I must belong to a very tiny minority of people who at least try to care just a little.

Then Israel's live-streamed genocide of Palestinians, and people still watch Eurovision like, what does it take to make people boycott a song contest? The easiest boycott imaginable, and people won't even do that. Does Israel have to torture and rape Palestinian children live on stage before people stop watching or what will it take?

First Covid & half the population going apeshit crazy at the merest suggestion that maybe we should all do a little to prevent millions of people from dying, and then we just collectively stuck our heads in the sand while we continue getting sick of an increasing number of infectious diseases we've decided to "live with".
Then Trump, Musk... that entire cesspool of Nazi excrement, and I've never seen so many Teslas in my neighborhood. How hard is it to not buy the overpriced Nazi car?

Going to vent some frustration. Feel free to ignore.
I used to think that most people were basically good, deep down, or at least I never used to actively consider the opposite: that most people aren't good, not even deep down. The last 6 years have made it really hard not to draw this opposite conclusion.

#ScribesAndMakers 15: What's going well with your creative work so far this month?
I just had a potential epiphany the other day about a scene in book 2, so that's really nice. Other than that, I'm waiting for feedback from a friend on book 2, so I'm not actually working on the books right now. Funny how epiphanies always seem to come while you're not working on the thing. Just shows how important it is to let your brain rest and focus on other things from time to time, too.

Does anyone know why a new version of the Proton Pass extension for Firefox needs new permissions to "Access browser activity during navigation"?

Trying again: does anyone here have a female salmon-pink tarantula (lasiodora parahybana)? I'd love to hear about your experience with it.
How big is it and how much does it weigh? Have you ever held it in your hands, and if so, what is it like to hold? Would you say it's heavier or lighter than it looks? What is its personality like? Cautious or adventurous, active or mostly sitting still, for example.
Photos or video welcome.

Is there any way of looking up which band t-shirt designs were available in/before 2006? I'm specifically interested in Gojira t-shirts from that period. I can find plenty of Gojira t-shirt designs, but I have no idea what year they were each released in.

It’s fastelavn (carnival) here in Denmark, but instead of the classic fastelavn buns I made vegan blueberry and chocolate chip muffins 😋

My third read of the year, a Classic (for certain values of Classic 😆 ): The Crystal Shard by R.A. Salvatore, first book (first published at least) in the legend of Drizzt the drow and Icewind Dale.
I loved the old #IcewindDale games, especially the second (alas that it didn't get an enhanced edition), and I've always been curious about these old D&D novels. So it was about time I got started.
Apparently Salvatore's first book, which shows, but still good nostalgia.
