Neverwinter Nights continues to crash at the module selection screen, but I'm able to say the issue happens when the game tries to load the module list, that most time fails. If succeed, the game works.
Its a game engine issue, not a graphic one.

Testing the graphic settings, the thing which slows down a lot the game are the shaders: dropped these at minimal, the graphic gets quite smooth.
Remains some micro stutter when the camera pans, thought, and seems a limit of the translation layer.If there is a way to fix the issue of the campaign selection that crash the game, NWN 1 is good enough to be playable with the Linux native.

In general seems the compatibility layer doesn't digest well a lot of graphical filters and options, they cause a devastating performance hit despite everything else, sounds and engine, works pretty well.
Seems depends also from game to game: UT at max setting runs pretty smooth, with a minuscule stutter in comparison run it native under Linux, but not to compromise gameplay.Some ideas how improve things on NWN? I could try a bit.

I believe to sort out the reason.
Somehow the game breaks when it search the available modules, and something most time causes it to hang.
Same also if you click some buttons before it has finished the checks.
You can load saves with no issues.It is the only blocker, because if it manages to find the modules, the game runs... ok? It strutters, not badly as others, and you need to disable various graphic options to reduce the visual issue.

Ran Neverwinter Nights 1, Beamdog edition, they do a Linux native version, I had a strange issue.
The game launches without the graphic issues I had with others, sound fine, and I think the picture quality on BSD is better honestly.
However the program hung a lot of times when I just selected a campaign.
Somehow, after have launch the game dozen of time, and ran the intro videos once, it works now?
What made it work? Somehow has an idea? -
The 13 year old is all packed and ready to go to his first LAN party with his mates. The kitchen table is currently covered in computer bits, ready to be packed in the car.
Makes me remember of all the #NeverwinterNights LAN parties I went to in the early 2000s. So much fun.
I love that he can experience this gamers right of passage. I mean gaming online is great and all, but there is something to be said for the joy that comes from all sitting in the same computer filled room, eating chips and playing together.

As of Neverwinter Nights... I'm surprised and glad that there are still people playing Baldeceran's Prophet series.
With his first two modules left me with very good impression, I remembered waiting patiently for the author to publish this new series chapter by chapter. Story wise, it's simply the best game mod I've ever played, and it spoiled me ever since. Not even any past or recent Black Isle/Obsidian games, or other similar mods like Enderal, or Forgotten City, could surpass it, at least not in my mind.
You can say it's just one of the same free will vs determinism archetype. 12 Monkeys played it too. But as an RPG, with characters you cared about affected by the events directly, it could feel more personal.
Unfortunately it seems to have some glitches while running on EE, I hope it's just minor ones.

The henchmen's pathfinding feels better in EE than in original. Maybe it was just my imagination? Still, I was looking for a new henchmen AI enhancement mod that can be used with the original campaign, to at least give them the ability to switch weapons in melee range.
Played with Philos' Enhancing Player System for some time, it feels quite nice so far. It gives you customizable options to control everyone individually, or you can set up their tactics through dialogues like henchmen mods from the old days.

I'm not sure if it was my build's problem or something, some fights seem to be harder than I remembered? Maybe it's just Ranger was a weaker class in the 3rd Edition. I even turned down difficulty to normal, I should have stockpile Healing Kits like I used to. But you should more likely to be hit by Attack of Opportunity while using a more complex healing method than potions, isn't it? Anyway, I skipped fighting the Swords of Never, used Invisibility, grabbed the artifacts and teleported back.

What if they gave us more depth on the couple in Chapter one, instead of just let Aribeth giving us quests to find the cure. Like, show us more of their relationships and their disagreements, or at least having them talk about each other every time you return. But wasted potentials will have to be filled with your own imaginations.

It seems fighting that Bloated Dire Spider and Gulnan at level 4 or 5 was a bit early. All the traps, potions, healing kits, and kitings won't do the trick. What really saved the day was henchman/summoning sacrifice... Thank you very much Tomi.

I was looking for a small but content-rich game that can run on my tiny leftover storage space, that also has a native Linux installer... Sadly many of the newer ones were too big.
It's been a long time since I last played Neverwinter Nights. I remembered spent so much time modding it back then, it almost felt like the back of my hand. Yet I also remembered the Toolset could not properly run on my potato PC at the time. I could edit anything but the maps.
Anyway. Trying to play it again from the beginning and without too much nostalgia this time.

My #SteamReplay reported #TheFirstDescendant was my most played game. Not a surprise.I played 18 games and TFD was 68% of my play time. #VRising listed second with 15% of my play time.
I still played #NeverwinterNights in 11 months out of 12, but it was only 5% of my play time as I primarily logged on for specific events.

As for #NeverwinterNights, I've indeed wasted countless hours since that game's release (and later its enhanced edition) trying to create... something, anything worth sharing. In fact I'm still working on a module, or rather the first module in a trilogy. I started this one a few years ago, chipping away at it on and off, and for the first time it's actually starting to look promising. Maybe in another five years I'll finally finish the first part.

Every time I feel like #NeverwinterNights is getting a little slow, I get further into the story, or a crazy side quest.
This is why this game is such a classic.

I replayed #NeverwinterNights recently and something struck me.
Why was #Paladin changed from a WIZ caster to a CHA caster in #DND #5E ?Except for their class features, all their spells come from the cleric spell list anyway - who are WIZ casters, it makes cleric/paladin multi class clunky and overly M.A.D.
And I'm not even sure it really fits the archetypes - paladin's are meant to be fierce holy warriors, not charmers.
An ability to add your WIZ modifier to an intimidation check would have been a better way to let them avoid conflicts maybe ?
Am I missing something ?
