  1. Just now I finally fixed that system: speech filters.

For testing, I gave both myself and Yuuko here the same setup: Elmew Fudd syndrome on the "personal" layer, and sharp teeth and a long tongue on the "body" layer.

There's also an unused "culture" layer.

  2. Just finished editing and posting our latest episode of @gamesatwork_biz for release Monday, with Special Guest - @epredator . We talk about lots of gaming and gaming news.

  4. just to remind me of how awesome working on thinkpads is, here's a batch of #macbook pro A1502; 13-inch retinas of the 2015 vintage with the bog-standard 8 GB RAM, no storage and every, single, one has a bulging battery. and not only are they bulging, *every* cell is swollen! never had that before, usually it's only some of them. not that it makes any difference, they're all coming out

just to make working on the things more shitty, almost all of them got some stupid plastic protector shell that's fucking impossible to take off without breaking. tried it every which way, if one half does give and come off without cracks, the other half is like I ain't going nowhere what

nothing interesting to report here, after tons of alcohol and twisting and breaking all my expired debit cards, the things are out. grim chances on scoring good batteries for those, as well as magsafes; SSDs I got coupla. final flying ointment (h/t Chris Moltisanti, loyle to his capo), the 2015s got the unremovable staingate so they gotta go out as-is

to finish the festivities, there's one 2013 model and one A1425 from 2012; those can get the staingate removed but they don't need it, go figure. the latter one had the then super-expensive 500 GB SSD and it didn't get snagged by the junkers because it was hidden away in a tray. slim chances on selling the thing as it fits only L2012/E2013 retinas; seem to remember those things burning undogly amounts of power

  6. I just found a DVD with the title "Leeuw en Koning", which translates to "Lion (and) King". So I assumed it was The Lion King.

It wasn't The Lion King at all. After A LOT of searching online, it apparently contains two episodes from a show called "Leo the Lion" from 1966, which is the English version of a Japanese anime.

    Old DVDs were weird!

  7. I just realized that my order from did not include the automatic water dish I ordered. I use an automatic waterer in my garage for my cat and the one I've got now is leaking. I called Chewy, my phone was answered by a human, and that same human took care of the problem by refunding me for the missing item and re-ordering the item at a discount. It'll arrive in 3 to 5 days. And now I have a small credit on my Chewy account for future use. THAT is good .

  8. I just vividly remembered the smell of the trash compactor at the Target I used to work at 15-20 years ago and I hate it

  9. We just shipped our first Kotlin Multiplatform module in a real app. It's small — models, validation, and a bit of networking — but it's in production.

    What I'd tell someone starting:

    • Start with a module that has no UI dependencies
    • Write the tests in shared code from day one
    • Keep platform-specific code behind interfaces, not expect/actual everywhere

The biggest win was validation: one implementation, same behavior on both platforms, one place to fix bugs.

The biggest surprise was build times. They're noticeable, and they add up in CI.

    Next step is sharing some state-management logic. I'm being cautious about that one — UI-adjacent code is where shared modules get messy.#kotlin #mobile #multiplatform #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

  22. I just voted online in our #Ontario municipal #election. I’m sure it took less than a minute. #vote #voting #democracy

  23. I just got back from voting in municipal elections, and I was going to bang out another hour of work, but our corporate IT gestapo pushed out an update to their endpoint security so now if we use an app that isn't in the "Approved Application List", I get a lovely popup every 60 seconds.. that doesn't dismiss for... 60 seconds... saying that `Access to this application is blocked`

Note that it doesn't SAY which application (it was my browser) - and neither do the logs - so you have to trial and error closing+opening apps until the nags stop.

    I want out of here.
