  1. We seriously have a problem with marketing. #Natural doesn't mean is good (or bad) inherently. This is a #naturalistic #fallacy. Poison is bad and can be either natural or artificial. Vaccines are artificial and good. Apples are natural and good.

  2. When you connect to an onion service, TLS/SSL is normally unnecessary because Tor inherently includes an encrypted tunnel to the onion host. But the onionmail SMTP instructions say to “Use SSL via STARTTLS”, so I did, and there was no issue connecting. However, “452 Mailbox full!” is falsely given when emailing myself. So #onionmail’s SMTP is dysfunctional in that regard for sure.

  3. Recently stumbled upon a thought that resonated a lot with me: we think that #democracy is something inherently good, but in practice, it’s only as good as the #education quality in your #society

And really, #usa has such enormous financial requirements for quality education that we should not be surprised that #populism and #demagogy make their way into the highest tiers of power.

Not to mention how many educated people who live there are not citizens

  4. *How do you explain to the household dog that you just blew up a bunch of intercontinental nuclear bombers *Maybe the dog is inherently cool with it #Katya #Artem #DJ #novelist #dogowners

  5. @luigirenna @mos_8502 There's nothing wrong with using the CLI, but there's nothing inherently special about it, either. Everyone used to do DOS, including editing startup files. So bash makes you about as elite as using a mouse does when everyone else is using touchscreens… ("You whippersnappers who don't even know what hover is about!")

But yeah, it was a common user pattern back then. I remember the whole #linuxde (or was it #linuxger ?) IRC channel getting out their virtual switchblades whenever someone asked about configuring their system with SuSe's "Yast" tool, and not by editing obscure config files like the gawds intended. The pride you get when you know just a teeny bit more than others…

  6. There was a discussion on the #librelounge channel the other day about how documents explaining how to report bugs well are inherently exclusionary and hostile, regardless how they are presented and referred to.

I don't get that position, if I join a community I'm happy if the expectations and norms are laid out clearly. Everybody has them, whether they document them or not.
  7. I love mechanical keyboards, but I find the idea that membranes/rubber domes are inherently bad to be a bit silly. There are a lot of truly awful keyboards and even mechanical switches out there imo, but those mostly come in the form of bottom of the barrel crap that gets bundled with PC or the cheapeat of cheap mechanicals you can find for like 20 dollars.

I''m currently typing on an ergonomic Microsoft Natural Elite keyboard from the 90s and this thing feels and sounds great to me despite being a membrane. It's no topre or buckling spring, but it feels a small step below my silent tactile switches I use in my modded TKL board....

Anyway, taste is subjective and snobbery is bad....what keyboards are y'all using out there?

    I don’t disagree.

I disagree that the construct of influencing is inherently bad, evil, or wicked.

The etymology of the word comes from observations of celestial objects. It an old concept which pre-exists the internet, like most of our #language.

IMHO, #leadership is about influencing and, ideally, creating more leaders.

Even the construct of #followership involves aspects of influence.

As a matter of #FirstPrinciples, I suggest reclaiming the term.

  9. He goes on,
Don't assume populist movements are inherently anti-green. Why are governments subsidising the wealthy (e-car subsidies in Norway).
We need to rediscover #Equality - not shallow moralism or meritocracy (equal opportunities). Not a point of departure but point of arrival.

Degrowth shouldn't pretend it will mean wins for everyone
Can't get there just with 'soft means'.

EE and degrowth hardly writing about technological and military oppression by the present system

  10. @hynek @ubernostrum I don't think there's an easy answer and I don't even think advertising is inherently evil. I do think presenting it as a binary choice or nescessary evil without looking at second-order impacts is unwise and potentially disingenous.

Whatever happens, #queers and #sexworkers and #furries and #kinksters will continue existing, punching above their weight plugging away at the fabric of the internet itself, even if the content on said internet pretends we/they aren't here.

Have a good timezone; I'm going to go study.

  11. For the love of #Jeebus, will someone please explain to #Trump that #fascism is an inherently #rightwing #ideology, and that #JoeBiden, no matter what you think of him, cannot, by definition, engage in #fascism? Please?? #Words have specific, established meaning, and you can't just arbitrarily invent your own definitions to suit your ignorant and idiotic grievances.

  13. "...the kanban system makes no assumption about the location of bottlenecks...The feedback in a kanban system is also inherently faster than that of a TOC system."

  14. All of my work is #Punk / #Cyberpunk and not just in the surface aesthetics.

Society is inherently doomed to corruption but worth fighting for. Heroes die young or live long enough to become villains.

Power is what you can control; freedom is what you can unleash. Information is the purest form of both.

Heroes fight for communities they can never be fully a part of; villains destroy the communities they rule from within.

  16. Relationships as Anarchy

Little Boxes in Need of a Hammer
The act of relating to another human is inherently anarchistic at its core, relationship anarchy (RA) is the act of realizing this fundamental truth. It is our nature to love hard and love many. Only through social convention do we find ourselves forced into specific boxes of friend, lover, partner, or fling. These little boxes are designed to lim

    #SouthAfrica boycott part Deux?

One must admit that for a self-proclaimed inherently *#anticolonial* #African state, #Russia and #China are just about the oddest "friends" they can possibly find. And we can drop that "just about" right off the bat.

They are serial #genocidal #lebenraum expansionists with zero capacity for remorse, i.e imperialist equivalents of sociopaths.

Of course there is a very lucrative silver lining to all the ruling-party elites. While natural resources last.

  23. @Wolf480pl @rysiek @pesco @webmind @ente being able to delegate your franchise to a smart contract isn't an inherently stupid idea, at least for non-binding referenda. Arguably it's analogous to the way you can delegate your vote in #LiquidFeedback. The hard (maybe impossible) part would be figuring out how to encode your voting preferences in the smart contract in a way that can't be gamed
