What are beauty standards like in your world? How do they affect your characters?
Tricky question, because the definition of 'human' is a lot broader in #Shroompunk than it is on Earth. There are certain universal constants-- clear skin, symmetrical features, the author's barely disguised fetishes-- and there's a strong bias toward 'celestial' features such as darker skin and fair hair and pale eyes.

How does your antagonist define friends?
The same way most people do, I reckon: he doesn't, but he knows his friends when he sees them. Karrn used to have some human friends as well, including my protagonists, and he regrets that justice (and the future of his people) demands they be destroyed.
He wishes they could understand. He wishes he could even EXPLAIN it to them, without causing greater atrocities.

If your MC, SC, and antagonist went out together, could they agree on a place to go?
Sure. Hell, they could probably share a pizza if they didn't have enough money to buy two. They're all amiable enough people.
It's just that the MC/SC want to appoint a human being to be King of the World, and the antagonist is committed to the extermination of every human being in the Nine Worlds.
It's just politics.

Euphemisms, certainly. Romantic euphemisms, in the highest, purplest prose I can muster.
Purple, throbbing prose, straining against the cruel bondage of decency.

What is your antagonist afraid of?
Karrn is afraid that he won't be strong enough to do what's right-- that he'll be defeated before he can avenge his draconic ancestors, or worse, that he'll lose his nerve when he defeats the human rulers and their armies and has to start slaughtering the innocents.
He's afraid that he won't be able to pay the price for justice, and his beautiful, precious children will have to pay it for him.

Is your MC romantically involved with other characters? Are their relationships wholesome or toxic?
Romance, and Giuvano's romances, are a key component of #TheOathbreakerKing and with #Shroompunk stories in general.
Giuvano's lover and betrothed is Fyarre, an older widower and a commoner who serves as his brother Goaquine's Hand during their quest for the Crown. It is a wholesome relationship; they are passionately in love and planning a quiet, peaceful future together

What's the bravest thing your MC has done?
Spoilers, darling. The bravest thing Giuvano does in #TheOathbreakerKing is learning that, in order to serve the people of his World, he has to be willing to rule them. He has to learn how to take what he wants from people who don't want to give, and impose his will on people who don't want to obey.
And he learns that lesson in the harshest possible way.

12. MC POV: How clean is your home right now?
"My tent is immaculate. I try to keep it neat, myself-- but I maintain a modest household staff for me and Fyarre, even on our Quest, to keep things in order.
And to give his older children a crash-course in the expectations of nobility, since their children will be inheriting our titles."

"I love horses. Now, every man of noble breeding loves his own steed... but I love all horses. I love the way a freshly-oiled warhorse smells. I love their soft feathers. I love the songs the warhorses and the plowhorses and even the skyhorses sing to each other at night."

What does your MC believe he is destined for in life?
What everyone else-- except his brother-- believes he is destined for: he's going to win the war, his brother's going to grant him a quiet duchy, and he's going to retire there with his husband and watch their grandchildren grow up in peace.
But the World has other plans for him.

Can you write a traumatic, disturbing scene?
Never had someone ask me if I could before. Plenty of people have asked me if I could not.
The Oathbreaker King is not what I would describe as a 'dark fantasy' but the brighter the light, the darker the shadows it casts... any my novels are about people who shine very, very bright.

How would your family react to meeting your MC if you were dating?
There would be some stern conversations about the fact that I'm a married man and my wife is an honorable woman.
There's be some lighthearted conversations about how I have "protested too much" over the years about not being bi/gay/pan. (IT'S JUST A PHASE, MOM!)
But my family would love Giuvano right away and even my wife would be pressuring me to put a ring on it.

What makes your WIP stand out from the crowd?
Shroompunk is a fantasy setting, a sword & sorcery setting, that isn't based on Bronze Age/Iron Age European cultures on an Earthlike planet.
It's not a secular, materialistic world with a thin veneer of mysticism and magic painted on.
It's a magical, mythological world with a thin veneer of reality.
And I'm proud of that.

I really, really would not. My parents would have eaten Giuvano alive and I wouldn't want to be responsible for them for dousing that beautiful light.
Fyarre or Pirscke, though... I would happily take full responsibility for all of the consequences of that chance meeting.

Death beyond death for every human that has ever killed a dragon to bring another human back from the dead.
Life beyond life for every dragon who was so slain.
A crown and a World full of tortles to rule for each of his seven children.

It's complicated.
#Shroompunk is a multiverse. All of those foods exist.
#CosmicRangers is space opera. None of those foods exist, but something just like all of those foods does, and the narrator is translating the names of those foods into English.
My... untitled #cyberpunk #xianxia #UrbanFantasy is set (primarily) on Earth. It's 2197 and we've had a couple of extra World Wars, but the California Free State alone exports all of those foods.

@Yora Mine's probably a nightmare for a baby dev, too: basically a traditional (but simplified) roguelike combined with those *glorious* RuneQuest/Glorantha visual novel games, set in my #Shroompunk setting.
Basically, you're a young adult... the tribe is dire straits and the elders don't like you, so for your Rite of Passage you are sent on a suicide mission into the nearest Warp Zone and from there... you can travel to other Worlds, or return home, recruit people and/or spirit allies...

I got the idea for 'Shroompunk' by first wondering what a new '-punk' genre might be like in relation to #mushrooms .

#Shroompunk is a subsubgenre of "sword" & sorcery fantasy that focuses on the intense action and intimate stakes of pulp sword & sorcery (think Conan and Thongor) with the fairytale logic and candy-coated aesthetics of 80s cartoons and videogames, like Super Mario Bros and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
It's a thing I'm trying to make into a thing.
I'm also developing it as a #TTRPG because there's so much more to "old school D&D" than the #OSR wants to acknowledge.

It's a topic of heated scientific debate in #Shroompunk; some scholars believe the Warp Zone is a living organism, like a plant, and Worlds are its fruit. Others believe that Worlds rise and fall on their own, and that the Warp Zones only grow around and through them.
They're all wrong.
In my space fantasy, it's much like in our world-- the Academy and the Church waste a lot of time and effort reconciling the conflicting scientific and theological theories that are still all wrong.

I haven't figured out what I'm doing with #shroompunk entirely yet. It's tied into the power sources, natch; Psychic, Astral, Umbral, Elemental, and Warp.
The central authority in my Space Fantasy setting has two religions as the One True Faith. One's based on Anime Catholicism, and the other's based on... the mishmash I mentioned in 9. They're both the Inerrant Truth, they openly contradict each other and, pointing that out is the greatest heresy in both.
