(1994)Jei Motorola DynaTAC buvo mobiliojo ryšio tėvas, tai IBM Simon yra išmaniųjų telefonų protėvis. Tai tarsi telefono, fakso ir PDA hibridas su jutikliniu ekranu, el. paštu ir kalendoriumi. Starto metu jo kaina siekė $1095, kas dabar būtų apie $2400, jau ir šiais laikais tokia kaina yra ganėtinai aukšta, o 1994 m. tik verslo grietinėlė galėjo sau leisti tokį pirkinį.
4.5 colio monochrominis LCD jutiklinis ekranas, 16 MHz Vadem procesorius, 1 MB RAM, 1 MB ROM (plečiama PCMCIA iki 2 MB), integruotas modemas, faksas, el. paštas, kalendorius, užrašinė, pieštuku valdomas UI, NiCd 1100 mAh baterija (iki 1 val. pokalbių, 8–12 val. budėjimo), dydis 200 x 64 x 38 mm, svoris 510 g.
Nors parduota tik apie 50 tūkst. vienetų, IBM Simon įtvirtino pačią smartphone koncepciją – valdymas lietimu, programos ir komunikacija viename įrenginyje, kas šiandien atrodo savaime suprantama.

Motorola DynaTAC 8000X
(1983)Prieš iPhone, prieš Nokia 3310, prieš visus mygtukinius telefonus buvo Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. Pirmasis laisvai nešiojamas telefonas, iki tol mobilieji telefonai buvo montuojami automobiliuose ir svėrė kaip lagaminas. Telefonas buvo 33 cm aukščio (su antena) ir svėrė beveik kilogramą, tad nešiotis jį galėjo tik fiziškai stiprūs, o įpirkti tik finansiškai galingi, nors pasinaudoti atjungus nuo laido galima busvo tik apie 30 min. Tačiau tai vis tiek buvo didžiausias statuso simbolis Volstryte.
Monochrominis LED ekranas, analoginis tinklas, NiCd 600 mAh baterija (iki 30 min. pokalbių, 10 val. krovimo), telefono adresųknyga 30 numerių, dydis 33 x 4.5 x 8.9 cm, svoris 794 g, be SMS, bet su vibracija ir greitu rinkimu.
DynaTAC 8000X kūrimo procesas truko 10 metų ir kainavo $100 mln., o pirmasis skambutis juo buvo atliktas Martin Cooper 1973 m. balandžio 3 d.

I finally decided to do something I'd been meaning to do for years - nudged by watching @janbeta starting the restoration of an #Amiga 3000T .
What I needed to do was remove the real-time clock battery from the mainboard in my Amiga 4000. I haven't used it in - literally - decades, and those soldered-to-the-board NiCd batteries (they're three small cells attached end-to-end) all leak, eventually. They can do a lot of damage to the board.
I think that I had been putting it off for years because I figured it had been so long there wouldn't be anything to salvage - that, plus it was tucked in an inconvenient place in storage.
Today I pulled the box out and looked at it. It's basically in mint shape, even stored in the original factory packaging, which is not bad for a machine from 1993. I hadn't even seen the machine since 1998 - the box was sealed when I moved that year, and I never unpacked it. I moved a couple more times since then.
It wasn't even dusty inside. It looks like it came out of the factory last week. It's the #68040 model and has some upgrades - RAM maxed out, a Video Toaster 4000 and a second hard drive added.
The battery did leak, but there's no significant damage to the board. The lacquer where it oozed has lost its shine, but that's about it. Removed it and cleaned the board.
I gather this might actually be worth something today? Last time I checked (20 years ago...) it wasn't.

Він сидить у своєму офісі у Києві, 1989 рік. На столі у нього красується дуже цікавий, раритетний ноутбук. Я вирішив скористатись Google Lens і визначити, що це за модель.
Ось що знайшов:
Toshiba T1000 - портативний комп'ютер, випущений корпорацією Toshiba у 1987 році. Його технічні характеристики подібні до IBM PC Convertible:
- процесор Intel 80C88 з тактовою частотою 4,77 МГц;
- 512 КБ оперативної пам’яті;
- CGA-відеокарта з 16 кб ОЗП;
- монохромний LCD-дисплей (640x240);
- шестирядна клавіатура;
- сигнальний звук PC speaker;
- вбудований дисковод 3.5";
- блок живлення 9 В постійного струму, 1,1 А;

Mulle on tulossa paketti Espooseen. Se lajiteltiin Vantaalla 7.5. Seuraavana päivänä 8.5. se rekisteröitiin Espoossa ja sain kysymyksen että haluanko sen ovelle vai pakettiautomaattiin. Valitsin jälkimmäisen ja paketti rekisteröitiin uudestaan Espoossa 8.5., toimitusarvioksi tuli 9.5. (lauantai???). 8.5. illalla lähetys lajiteltiin taas... Vantaalla.
Lauantai tuli ja meni. Nyt 11.5. lähetys on kuljetuksessa Helsingissä. :D
