At PCC, a food consumer cooperative chain in Seattle, made a worker take off a watermelon pin last week. Not even an explicitly Palestine pin. Workers are upset about this!
This action follows a long campaign for PCC to drop Israeli products. PCC even brags that they are "anti-colonial". But recently they've reversed their policies from previously vetting their product on variety for criteria, to selling products based on whether people actually buy them, and in the same revision banned any protest activities.
After collecting over a thousand signatures supporting the ban, I was also told the cooperative recently removed member voting.
An important reminder that just because something is labeled a "cooperative" doesn't necessarily mean anything. They're betting on your inherent trust of their brand while they backslide.

In other news #SocialCoop mods #suspended an account I want to talk to (and is not a Nazi or clear troll or anything that we have voted is bannable), and asked me to wait more than three weeks before they discuss my appeal and consider moving the account to just limit as I suggested (a corrective action with no downsides as I see it). 44 people out of 1.4k monthly actives are following them and might lose the connection if the suspend is not lifted by end of this month.
IMHO this is not ideal and we should collectively do better. I can't honestly recommend Social.Coop to people anymore until moderation practices improve in response times, transparency and alignment with voted policies.
I plan to update this thread as more comes to pass.

Really cool to have close to 100 people already voting on the #SocialCoop instance policy vis-a-vis Threads. We use #Loomio for these kinds of decisions. There's always room for improvement, but I'm just glad we have participatory processes for policies that affect all users of the server.

I'm trying to figure out a procedural question, which involves #Loomio . I had a list of options for a ranked choice vote. However, the bylaws for #SocialCoop require a block option, and that is weighted much more heavily than a regular vote. I'm not sure how to handle that in a ranked choice vote.

General question for social.coop -- how should we make decisions about which tools to use?
For example, in the CWG, I created an #etherpad doc on #Disroot and then asked people working on that doc to use it.
When it came to switching to #gitlab on #webarchitects, we discussed it at length.
In a recent phone chat one person suggested google hangouts and others suggested Zoom and we agreed to use the latter.
Do we need some protocol or etiquette on this?

I love that the #JacksonRising folks leave no revolutionary stone unturned. They are not afraid to learn from them all and apply them to their own situation in creative ways. #socialism #mutualism #leninism #anarchism #blacknationalism #antiimperialism #indigenism it's all on the table.
Reminds in some ways of #Bakur and #Rojava and revolutionary Kurds unique politics.
