doi.org/10.1038/s41567-025-02859-zQuasicrystals are weird. When you solidify something it tends to get into a high-order state: a crystal. If you cool it down too fast so it doesn't manage to make a monocrystal it will form a polycrystalline state or, worse case scenario, something completely amorphous like a glass.
But quasicrystals are weird. They are ordered structures that lack a periodicity and making them is not easy.
In this paper the authors show how paramagnetic colloidal microspheres (i.e. big enough to be clearly visible under a microscope) subject to an electromagnetic field spontaneously arrange themselves into a quasicrystal.This is 100% not my field, but the ability to create quasicrystals on demand looks so cool!

Gna gna. Found out why my Ace Combat started to crash. The culprit is
dwmapi.dll, which is needed for the UE4SS mod (Cheat Engine), so I can adjust the FOV – because the devs kinda “forgot” to add a gorram FOV slider to the game that I NEED and absolutely REQUIRE.Turns out something in there results in an Access Violation on Start with Proton Experimental (and 9). It works fine with Proton 8. I do not remember switching that but that was the solution in the end 😩
This is after I carefully tried lots of stuff like resetting savegame, disable and remove other mods, fiddle with ini files, read miles of debug logs and whatnot.

Huzzah! A breakthrough!
After a week of fiddling and trying various outdated tutorials, I *finally* got my D-Link DWM-222 USB Modem thing to send, and read, SMS texts on a #RaspberryPi (4B) running #ubuntu2404, using #gammu.
Turns out, I needed to downgrade the DWM's firmware, to a very specific different version, using a Windows PC first. Obviously. 🙄 Hey. It was only the 6th(?) firmware version I tried.
But yay! Progress!!

Turns out, I needed to downgrade the DWM's firmware, to a very specific different version, using a Windows PC first. Obviously. 🙄 Hey. It was only the 6th(?) firmware version I tried.

for you, uhm go with i3, has the best documentation, dwm isn't as ressource saving as you think if you have to recompile it everytime you need to switch configuration
hyprland is nice to tinker arround with but not for production or daily driver. why not all? -

#Kwin on #Wayland with Wayland clients is the smoothest UI experience I've ever had, except for #WindowsPhone . It's way faster than X. Before now I thought DWM.exe on destop #Windows was as smooth as a compositing desktop window manager server could be, but it's not. #Xwayland will have major issues on #Nvidia until next week, though. Driver 555 should fix the flickering since it adds explicit sync support, but there could be more stuff to do.
