I use the "Windows" key to meta-instruct my window manager ( #herbstluftwm ). I would hope more recent models would still allow you to do that.

I've always been too afraid of tiling window managers and also too lazy to learn new behaviors. I've tried it many times but I failed again and again because of my laziness.

Yesterday I've installed #herbstluftwm on #Xubuntu on a low end Fujitsu U727 notebook and played around for while with the configuration. Well, I think I fell in love this time. 😍 Very smooth! And I think replacing xterm with #alacritty was also a good idea.

Is there anything I should definitely try?

#herbstluftwm is doing just fine. No shadows cast at all. Everything is full screen for me. Who needs window decorations?

Switched back to #cwm after using #herbstluftwm for a while. The main reason was wanting a more minimalist feel, especially since it's included in OpenBSD by default
I had to invest some time trying to replicate the hc keybindings to get some sort of tiling effects.

For the #XLibreArtixWeek, we compiled some Liberated Screens showing #XLibre on #ArtixLinux. Chronologically from the very first one on Jul 25 to the love for the global menu, #sxwm, and #herbstluftwm. All including #Initfreedom.

Starting my keyboard-(almost-)only, tilingWM journey some years ago with Herbstluftwm over i3/sway, it has now been tweaked near to perfection with NIRI. Everything's extremely fast and responsive, check out this screencast!

As with Sway, I can handle KeepassXC-CLI shortcut integration with no plugins needed.
Pass has been a solid choice, too.
Qutebrowser is not the only one in town to handle vim-like keybinding (but a good one 😉).
And yeah, dystopian Fallout retro is the stylish way to go the KISS way 😍

Done. I have replaced Devuan with #Debian #Trixie and #runit. Xorg with #herbstluftwm was a bit tricky, but now everything is working.

@lhp That's really cool! Currently I control #herbstluftwm via my own terribly organized #elisp wrapper scripts but would love a scheme-based alternative to #stumpwm. Any plans for tiling support?

for me for now #herbstluftwm until there's a proper equivalent for wayland
for you, uhm go with i3, has the best documentation, dwm isn't as ressource saving as you think if you have to recompile it everytime you need to switch configuration
hyprland is nice to tinker arround with but not for production or daily driver. why not all?
