Today I went to #PeoplePlanetPint (https://small99.co.uk/people-planet-pint-meetup/) in #Derby, the same organisation that was running last night's screening in Nottingham.
Unfortunately I couldn't stay long as it was during lunch and I had to get back to work, but hopefully I can go next June when it should be back to a Thursday evening, but there's no date yet.
@krystalhosting sponsor the events, which is nice.
At the Derby one, this means that the first 10 people get a drinks token 😋
The people seemed nice, and I mentioned about the film last night, but we didn't have much chance to chat about other things before I had to leave.
For some of them, it sounded like it was their start of the weekend, lucky sods 🤣

I had a good time at #OggCamp at the weekend. There were a few familiar faces, but there was a poll during the intro session where the presenter asked for how many people it was their first time, and between 25%-33% raised their hand, which made for a nice mix.
Polarian (from the XSF) wanted to give talk about Jabber / #XMPP, and I said I would help 😨 .
We originally wanted to have an XMPP stand at EMFCamp, but neither of us got tickets 😭

@chewie By using Signal-FOSS or Molly-FOSS you just force the Signal app to use its WebSockets-based notification fallback mechanism. But if you have Play services installed and have granted them network permissions, you might as well just use FCM for notifications. It saves battery life compared to each app maintaining its own background network connection.
If you're using @mollyim you also have a third option for receiving notifications: @unifiedpush
But since Signal doesn't support it natively, you need a mollysocket server that receives the Signal notifications and translates them into UnifiedPush format. The mollysocket server is connected to your Signal account as a linked device, but it does not have your decryption keys. There are public instances of mollysocket like
mollysocket.adminforge.deThe easiest and best way to get started with UnifiedPush (IMO) is the recently released Sunup distributor app.

@chewie @ldodds it's almost impossible to fix potholes when people are making new ones faster because of a lack of viable alternatives to driving (thanks @notjustbikes) in most of the country. Also, some local authorities are stupid and prioritise reports made by fighting their awful reporting websites while ignoring and badgering people who report using apps like #FixMyStreet

@chewie shared a very cool extension with me called #StreetPass for #Mastodon. It’s a browser extension that helps you find your people on Mastodon. Testing it now… I’ll report back in a few days after browsing the web as usual. StreetPass will build a list of Mastodon users based on the websites I visit.
