  1. Et voilà. Ça commence... Installé depuis Obtainium, directement de Github. Puis lorsque je dis "installer quand même" ça demande de m'authentifier/déverrouiller...

Ich persönlich werde bei Threema bleiben und zu Signal zurückkehren.

  3. The implementation to get Web Push support, for UnifiedPush, on Flatline (soft fork of Signal server) is ready to be reviewed!

Hopefully it will land in Signal one day

And they also should maybe support #GrapheneOS instead of harassing them… 🤷

Tho why should anyone listen to me I'm just a nobody online weirdo xD hahahah

  6. My most awaited feature for Signal is finally there, and available with Molly too: incremental local backups :D

  7. As some of you may know, we're building Flatline, a self‑hostable soft fork of the Signal Server. It lets you run a mostly Signal‑compatible server for research and private deployments.

We already run a Flatline server in Bahnhof cloud for internal development.

  8. Signal-Server has updated their SPAM filter yesterday, please update mollysocket to 1.7.1

  10. @mollyim
Hi, I’m having an issue with #mollyim and #UnifiedPush at #graphneos. I connected my second phone (same number) to my main account, but I can’t find the “Unified Push” option in the menu.

I installed the FOSS version from the F-Droid repo. Any ideas? Could you help me out? Thanks!

www.molly.im Signal-Fork on GrapheneOS combined with a good VPN offers a powerful privacy and security solution, making it an excellent choice for activists and anyone highly targeted.

  12. @aboutsignal

I hope #mollyim @mollyim will pick it up soon, or maybe this is the kind of thing we don't get in a FOSS app?

  13. I've been dabbling with instant messengers and so far @signalapp has been the least worst.

but.. although it can be installed on additional Linux and MS-Windows PCs to use the same account easily, I was annoyed I couldn't install an Android tablet as an additional device. Very frustrating if you have a family member with an Android tablet as their "main PC", and you're trying to migrate them over from Viber, where it all Just Works.

Until I found the alternate @mollyim fork Android signal client, which appears to Just Work for multiple Android devices. Great!!!

  14. @qyahxm maybe can you ask to @S1m ? he seems to be involved in the development of #MollyIm

  15. @moozer

I'm using Molly from their own repository on F-droid. It works really well and supports UnifiedPush.

  16. @scy They're all pretty bad. Threema has some major issues with their encryption protocol: infosec.exchange/@Fiona@blahaj

Delta Chat outright lacks forward secrecy, and also doesn't use post-quantum cryptography.

XMPP and IRC are a mess, and essentially unusable for less technical users.
When considering or recommending a messenger, always ask yourself: Would your grandma be able to use it? If she encountered some issue, would she be able to find someone, other than you, who could fix it? That unfortunately rules out a bunch of messengers.

I think best option is to use the @mollyim client for Signal. The second best choice would be @simplex

  17. @chewie By using Signal-FOSS or Molly-FOSS you just force the Signal app to use its WebSockets-based notification fallback mechanism. But if you have Play services installed and have granted them network permissions, you might as well just use FCM for notifications. It saves battery life compared to each app maintaining its own background network connection.

If you're using @mollyim you also have a third option for receiving notifications: @unifiedpush

But since Signal doesn't support it natively, you need a mollysocket server that receives the Signal notifications and translates them into UnifiedPush format. The mollysocket server is connected to your Signal account as a linked device, but it does not have your decryption keys. There are public instances of mollysocket like mollysocket.adminforge.de

The easiest and best way to get started with UnifiedPush (IMO) is the recently released Sunup distributor app.

  18. Signal has changed the authentication method on their servers, breaking older versions of MollySocket. If you're using UnifiedPush notifications in Molly, update your MollySocket server to v1.6.0!
