Wir haben soeben einen Artikel veröffentlicht, der- die Installation und Einrichtung eines eigenen mollysockets (Docker Compose),
- die Einrichtung/Erweiterung des Webservers nginx als ReverseProxy
- und die Einrichtung der NextPush-App in Verbindung mit mollyim, tusky und davx5für die Verwendung von Pushbenachrichtigungen auf Android-Betriebssystemen wie bspw. GrapheneOS beschreibt.
Ich nutze diese Konfiguration u.a. auf einem Pixel10a mit GrapheneOS.
Dadurch wird mein Akku geschont und ich habe mich erneut ein Stück unabhängiger von BigTech gemacht 👇https://www.c-rieger.de/mollysocket/

Ich finde #Signalmessenger bzw. @mollyim so viel besser als #threema libre
Ich habe beim Osterevent einen code erhalten und dachte jetzt habe ich die Chance den Familienchat zu Threema zu verlagern, aber die UI gefällt mir nicht so und das komischte ist, warum ist das Kamera Icon so weit weg? Ich mache doch eher ein Foto mit der Kamera als eine Umfrage zu starten, ein Kontakt zu versenden oder meinem Standort zu teilen. Vielleicht gewöhnungssache, aber da gefällt mir #ElementX besser. -

Just got Signal working on my old/backup Android (GrapheneOS) phone, with the help of @mollyim! https://molly.im/
:signal: Molly is a Signal fork that (among other features) allows you to use it as a "linked device", like a desktop computer client, so you can use Signal on multiple Android devices.
I knew that Molly existed, but I didn't know it had the "linked device" feature, which made it immediately useful to me.

@chewie By using Signal-FOSS or Molly-FOSS you just force the Signal app to use its WebSockets-based notification fallback mechanism. But if you have Play services installed and have granted them network permissions, you might as well just use FCM for notifications. It saves battery life compared to each app maintaining its own background network connection.
If you're using @mollyim you also have a third option for receiving notifications: @unifiedpush
But since Signal doesn't support it natively, you need a mollysocket server that receives the Signal notifications and translates them into UnifiedPush format. The mollysocket server is connected to your Signal account as a linked device, but it does not have your decryption keys. There are public instances of mollysocket like
mollysocket.adminforge.deThe easiest and best way to get started with UnifiedPush (IMO) is the recently released Sunup distributor app.

Last night was certainly interesting.
I set up an OVH VPS running Debian, so I could run #mollysocket. https://github.com/mollyim/mollysocketI'm just annoyed about Signal using FCM and websockets sucking for notifications, so I went with this. From my preliminary testing, works fine.
It also required me to learn nginx for reverse proxying and acme.sh for ssl certificates. Allegedly, the 2 hours I took were 8 less than usual, so that's pretty good.

ich kann nur von meiner Erfahrung mit dem #fairphone 5 berichten. Hab dort #eOS selbst installiert.
Es läuft soweit. Und nach dem Bericht von @kuketzblog auch OK soweit was #Datenschutz angeht.
Ich nutze die Kamera von FP. Finde ich besser als z.B. opencamera.
Sync läuft mit @ente (Fotos), #Nextcloud (Dateien) und #Posteo (Kalender und Kontakte).
Sonst halt @mollyim (Signal), @threemaapp #Fairmail #KeepassXC #NewPipe ... usw.
Banking läuft bei mir ohne Probleme. -

Um dies gänzlich zu beheben, muss es von Signal (Client + Server) gepatched werden.
Die Molly-Entwickler wollen jedoch ebenfalls Custom-Fixes bereitstellen.

#Signal was as secure as claimed, it would've been shut down like #EncroChat, #SkyECC & others...
Just stop the BS. EncroChat was specifically built and marketed for criminals. It wasn't shut down by law enforcement, it was hacked by the French police, after which they decided to shut the service down themselves.
Signal is open source (and the issue regarding reproducible builds is known, but it doesn't impact the security of the app. It is caused by a navigation library that causes some race condition during the build process, the result of which is dependent on CPU speed. They are aware of the issue, and are working to fix it. It is tracked here: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Android/issues/13565). If you don't trust the official build, you can compile it yourself. There are also forks like Signal-FOSS or @mollyim available if you prefer that.
The server is also open source (of course you can't verify if they are actually running that code, but that's gonna be the case for every application with a client/server architecture. Your point regarding Signal being "proprietary SaaS" is, again, total BS.

If you are on iOS, probably there are no solutions that I can suggest. However, in case you are an Android user, you can install #molly (molly.im/), which is a #signal fork. Molly and official signal client can coexist on a device. You can signup for signal services with your new number on molly, leaving your original number on the official signal client.
