🇬🇧 UnifiedPush server deployed!

This is a bit technical, but here’s what it means for you: You may not know this, but when an app (even a third-party or open-source one) sends you push notifications on Android, it goes through Google’s servers (FCM infrastructure).

If you’re on Android and use Conversations (XMPP), you can now bypass this, and also for apps that support it (examples: Fedilab, Tusky, Moshidon, Elements...).

Now, go to Conversations settings and scroll all the way to the bottom to “UnifiedPush Provider”; enter `push.gayfr.live` in the “Push Server” field, and check your XMPP account in the field above it. That's it, Conversations now bypasses Google FCM.

Optionally, you can do the same for apps that support it. Prerequisite: you must install the app from F-Droid (not from the Google Play Store, which, unsurprisingly, blocks this feature).

To do this on such an app, go to the account or notification settings in your app and enable the "UnifiedPush" or "Push Notification Provider" setting. The rest should happen automatically.

That's it! The next time you receive a notification, it will go through our servers instead of Google's.

Note: Of course, if you’re on iOS, you’re screwed, as this option isn’t available.

🇫🇷 Serveur UnifiedPush déployé !

Un peu technique, mais concrètement pour vous : vous ne le savez peut-être pas, mais quand une application (même tierce, même libre) vous envoie des notifications (push) sur Android, elle passe par les serveurs de Google (infrastructure FCM).

Si vous êtes sur Android, si vous avez Conversations (XMPP), vous pouvez désormais remplacer ça, ainsi que pour les applications qui le supportent (exemples : Fedilab, Tusky, Moshidon, Elements...)

D’abord, allez dans les paramètres de Conversations et tout à la fin, "Distributeur UnifiedPush" ; entrez : push.gayfr.live dans "Serveur Push", et cochez votre compte XMPP dans le champ au-dessus. Ça y est, Conversations n'utilise plus les serveurs Google FCM.

En option, vous pouvez faire de même pour les applications qui le supportent. Préalable : vous devez installer la version de l'application depuis F-Droid (et pas depuis le Google Store, qui comme par surprise, bloque cette fonctionnalité).

Sur une telle app, allez dans les options de compte ou de notifications de votre application, et validez le paramètre UnifiedPush ou Push Notification Provider. Le reste doit se faire tout seul.

Voilà ! La prochaine fois que vous recevrez une notification, elle passera par nos serveurs et plus par Google.

Note : bien sûr, si vous êtes sur iOS, vous êtes baisé, cette possibilité n'existe pas.

Noticed #Matrix notifications don't work, as my #UnifiedPush server is missing. I thought to just enable Ntfy, which I was using previously, but it seems to be using LLMs now. An alternative is autopush-rs by @mozilla, but I'm having a really hard time getting it working. Pointing kunifiedpush to my autoconnect domain works, but sending anything to the autoendpoint domain just returns a 404 error.

Ja. Ich wollte als gewähltes Policy Lead der W3C Social CG auch noch sagen, das ich voll zustimme und das es wirklich gut wäre, wenn es NINA nicht nur für google und Apple gäbe und wenn es #UnifiedPush unterstützen würde oder sogar nativ über #ActivityPub föderiert würde.
Das würde den Servern der Ehrenamtlichen Last nehmen und ggf. die Arbeit der Freiwilligen reduzieren.
Das gleiche gilt für jede offizielle WarnApp, egal wo.

An sich sehr gute APP, die ich früher genutzt habe. Seit ich auf Google verzichte, geht da leider nicht mehr. Schade, dass es da keine Option für z.B. unified push gibt.

Seit der Installation von tasks.org für Aufgabenlisten habe ich sehr oft die Benachrichtigung "Synchronisierung ausstehend, Daten auf dem Server haben sich geändert" von DAVx5, obwohl sich keine Daten geändert haben. Kennt das Problem noch jemand? Passiert auf beiden Geräten. Vor der Aufgabenintegration hatte ich nicht das Problem.

Mein Setup: tasks.org und DAVx5 auf Android Tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A) und Smartphone (Fairphone 4 mit Stock ROM), Synchronisation in selbst gehostete Nextcloud und Benachrichtigung über Unified Push via XMPP und davpush Plugin für Nextcloud.

Google-сервисы в нашем основном регионе недоступны, значит FCM отпадает, а без пуш-уведомлений мессенджер это не мессенджер: приложение, о котором узнаёшь, только когда сам его открыл, никому не нужно.

Стандартный ответ на эту задачу известен и выглядит красиво: UnifiedPush. Открытый контракт, никакого Google, пользователь сам выбирает, через кого получать сигналы. Мы так и сделали в июне, всё заработало на тестовых устройствах, и мы поехали дальше.

Полтора месяца спустя пошли жалобы, что уведомления не приходят. Мы полезли в логи прода и обнаружили, что четыре из пяти попыток разбудить устройство заканчивались отказом, и так было с первого дня работы фичи. Ниже разбор: почему так, почему платный тариф это не лечит, и что мы в итоге написали сами. Цифры настоящие, из журнала боевого сервера.

Un alivio, viendo que en el foro del proyecto principal, similar a lo que sucede con Simplex, sólo se escribían malas excusas para no hacerlo.

Merece la pena mirar mal un momento a @protonprivacy, que por motivos que sólo ellos saben se niegan no sólo a integrar Unified Push en Proton Mail sino que obligan a usarlo con servicios de Google.

I was using one called Prusm, and holos did register with it... but the only notifications I get are what I show below. Is this correct?
