  1. So so weird! Using to capture footage from old DV video tapes and all seems to be going well. But using the dv2 format I get clips where audio is sped up with several clips. So I tried dv1, seemed fine, but doesn't take these files. Neither does the mov format. So I tried the raw format and that worked fine. But now there's one clip where audio is pitched down by more than 2 steps. So weird!

  2. Grrr ! Restart Circuit doesn’t mean what it says. I was in round 7 of 8 of the Expert championship. Got some bad luck and thought you know what? I’ll restart the circuit… And got a nasty surprise. Sure, it’s restarting something. The entire championship! This is a bit of a “throw your controller through the room” experience.

No worries, didn’t do such a thing. It’s angering though.

  3. Hmm yes I think I should let render on my 64GB instead. VR footage is just too heavy it seems. My 16GB M1 MBP isn’t meant for this haha.

  4. Ugh I've had it with . It just doesn't sync stuff. On one computer I delete a file or folder, it's gone. I check my other computer, nothing changes. I check the server, files are still there. Both clients say they're all done syncing.

This gets really old when a KeePass database starts getting out of sync on two systems. Grrr... Any alternatives on Synology

  5. New annoying thing with : after every reboot it logs out of my private registry so when I want to `docker compose up` my project it wants to rebuild everything because it doesn't have access to the registry...

  6. Hmm that's surprising. Used to capture some footage from DV Tapes. There are several formats to choose from. One of them is QuickTime mov. You would've thought could handle that. But apparently the codec DV/DVCPRO is unsupported by both QuickTime and . can't handle it either.

The raw format is being handled just fine.

This is not the first time I find Apple stuff to have zero support for some codecs. Yet and do.

  7. It took a bit of figuring out but I managed to have this VM access my parallel port on my host so I can use the official app for writing my flash card!

Now to figure out how to “activate” Windows XP. Any pointers?

  8. I kinda feel like a proper hacker now! Modifying a very old C application to fix the timing and timeouts for uploading to this ancient flashcard through an ancient parallel port! Specifically bought a PCI card for this haha. Would it have been easier to just buy a modern flashcard? Yes. Less fun though! I just want this stuff to work again :-).

I had long thought the card was broken because the USB Writer I bought never worked but DID do stuff to the card.

  9. Nice! I was able to use with my card and without any configuration on . I won't be sticking to it because of the short term support, but happy to know that part of my old PC will work just fine under Linux!

Thinking about going with instead because of the longer support cycle. That or .

  10. Anyone have experience in using or as an alternative to plain old ?

At work this seems to be the direction they want to go. Us developers (a team of two) just want decent Git hosting with an issue tracker like on GitHub where it’s actually easy to refer to and discuss code. Also to do code reviews.

Is Azure DevOps actually suitable for that? And if so how does it compare in complexity/ease of use? Never heard of it myself until now.

  11. So how does one get to update a website listing in the search results? During development a customers website was on a dev domain, which was never published anywhere. Yet somehow Google decided to index that... The domain has since been setup as a 302 redirect. Has been that way since well over 6 months now. Yet the website still gets listed with the dev domain.

Ah, never mind. Somehow it's still there in some metatags... Dammit .

  12. Started playing Plus on the Switch today. Have had it for 5 years now… I remember a friend playing this game backbone . But at the age we were I doubt he actually knew how to play it. I certainly didn’t.

The game has a certain charm to it and a unique look. But wow is this game a lot to absorb! So many mechanics and layers. It can get a bit overwhelming and more often than not I’m confused on how to get something done. But it’s fun though! Just a lot to keep track of.

  13. Oh no! My little Asus seems to have died. It powers on but there’s no display. Can’t say I used the computer in recent years aside from once every couple of years to update Ubuntu on it. It can’t even play an HD video even though it claims to be powerful enough.

It was originally outfitted with a spinning HDD which I replaced for an SSD. Even then it machine would still be very slow. Still, it was a fun little computer to use!

  14. I mainly bought it to be able to digitise my tapes (again). But also because it's fun (if it works). The battery that came with it was dead, so bought a two pack. Was surprised these are still widely available (did get a 3rd party brand which I normally don't do with batteries).

The camera came with 4 NEW tapes as well which was quite the surprise. In some ways the camera is brand new. At least some of its accessories (like the included SD card).

  15. This is quite something. It feels more modern than the old broken one we had, but that one had more features (like a builtin light!). Sadly it doesn't have a microphone input. It does however advertise to have "megapixels" 😄. Which is actually about 1.3MP haha. A 16MB SD card was included for photo's. It can even record a ten second clip in 320x240 to the SD card, or 160x120 even!

No clue why they would include that though.

  16. Good grief is finicky! Not sure if it's actually the being troublesome or just the FireWire interface on . I takes several reconnects and reboots (of both camera and computer) for the camera to be properly recognised by the OS.

And even during import I've already had a data connection loss. The FireWire cable is brand new, but the Thunderbolt 3 -> Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt 2 -> FireWire adapters aren't. So...

  17. Wow this is weird. released a firmware update for the camera that forces you to set a device password because of EU legislation or something. I wonder if more camera's will be forced to have a password set. Will be fun when buying 2nd hand hardware...

  18. Aw bollocks! I found a Thunderbolt 2 to FireWire adapter very very cheap, so got the matching cable and the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 cable. Everything connected, the Mac recognises the FireWire interface, so far so good.

Sadly, the old JVC Mini DV Camera we used back in the day doesn't function properly anymore. I knew the FireWire interface was probably botched as I couldn't get it to work under Windows. But on top of that the thing is blind.

  19. A little shoutout to for as it let me download the ipa-file for a long delisted app that's required to change the settings of my camera.

The app was still on my so I could export it using iMazing3. Can now run the same app on my MacBook Pro, Mac Studio and have installed it on my iPads again. Really shitty doesn't provide the means to do this!

Best thing yet is that all this functionality is usable for free. Their trial is very generous!

  20. So recently hd a couple hundred thousand files to sync on my MacBook even though only a very small part of those files was actually on my system. Must've been some metadata stuff or something.

But today I logged into my to do a manual backup to an external drive (don't worry, I have automated backups offsite as well) and noticed couldn't sync anymore. Its folder didn't exist. But it did. Relinked OneDrive, and now it's merging files. What's there to merge???

  21. My replacement now only has one side brush instead of two. According to the manufacturer it’s because they made it more effective with just one PLUS it’s a costs saving for the consumer. support.eufy.com/s/article/Why

Yeah I don’t believe that. It’s a production cost saver for them. Will see how well it does with dog hair and sand.

  22. This is weird. My uses to a remote Synology NAS. Sometimes there are connection issues and I just retry. But for the last two days no luck.

Weird thing is the moment I try to do a backup it says it can't connect. But when I do an integrity check that runs fine. Only way to do that if it can actually connect to the remote NAS.

Network hasn't changed on either ends. Anyone got a clue what could be the cause of this? The logging doesn't say anything else but con error.

  23. Decided to hook up the old 360 again. I’m still on but wow how much snappier the interface of this old console is! Modern game consoles are like PC’s: the hardware is getting faster and faster yet they’re getting more sluggish by the day.

    #360

  24. Having always used with I'm now looking into and find it an interesting concept. However, with cpanm and a I can declare a feature which include dependencies that are only installed when I pass the flag to cpanm. But it seems this isn't possible to do with Carmel?

    @Perl

  25. Having been in webdevelopment for about 20 years now (yikes!) using stuff like , , , , and sort of fixed the issue of making webapps interactive/reactive. It always felt cumbersome though as it required a lot of different stuff to make it possible. And now we suddenly had to manage state, validation etc. on the client side as well. More work.

But, I think I found the solution to this problem. One that reminds me of the good old days...
