I then replaced the #C425 with the cheaper #C230, a wired camera that's very similar in feature set to the #TC70 but more and better. The cam quality is a noticeable upgrade over TC70. Same PTZ. Has motion tracking too like the TC70. The local detection options are a lot more tho and similar to the C425 - Motion/Human/Pet/Vehicle detection, baby cries, dog barks, cat meows, glass breaks (tho I believe C425 does not have these sound-based ones, at least not all of them?). Honestly, all in all - perfect cam, but lacks in my plan for it to replace the C425 simply bcos it was bulky (like the TC70, since it's a PTZ cam) and the mounting options wasn't suitable for the tight space I intended for it, and it's not able to capture in colour at night, in the dark. Its FOV, like the TC70, is far from being as wide as the C425 (which was really nice) - since it's a PTZ cam that you can control and move around anyway.
Finally, the last cam I got was the #C120 and my freaking god it's a perfect replacement for my litter box cam. It's a lot smaller and can be mounted magnetically - so it gets a perfect view of the litter box. It's a wired camera so it has the full feature set (like TC70/C230, just without PTZ/Tracking). It has the full set of detection options, as the C230. Its FOV I think is not as wide as the C425 but a hugeee upgrade over TC70/C230 and absolutely perfect for my use case. It even has the binary sensor on HA for pet detection specifically, rather than just motion detection like TC70/C230 (or nothing at all for C425). Seriously, if you ever need a cat or litter box cam, rather than getting one that's specifically designed for it, hence, niche and expensive and won't have #HomeAssistant integrations/support - get the Tapo C120, it's genuinely a no-brainer. Like all Tapo cams, they're all super affordable (only the C425 was fairly expensive and not worth it unless you really need it to be battery/solar powered and don't mind only getting the full feature set on their Tapo app and not HA).
So now, my complete bedroom setup is the C120 replacing the C425/C230 as the Litter box cam, and the C230 replacing the TC70 as the PTZ cam for room-wide monitoring - but only bcos of its nicer camera quality and more featured local detection options (otherwise the TC70 itself was perfectly fine if ure on a tighter budget). Given my really great experience now with these #Tapo cams, and the HORRIBLE experience with (overpriced) #Anker's #Eufy cams, I'm genuinely tempted to yank off my Eufy cams, sell em off (if anyone even wants them), and go all-in with Tapo cameras instead. #TP-Link has always been absolutely fucking perfect for my networking gear, now I see they're pretty banging on the security #camera front too. -
Ok, after some trial and error with ~4 #Tapo cameras, known experience with some other cameras (particularly #Eufy), research on some other (popular) cameras like #Reolink, I've found the perfect camera setup - particularly for #HomeAssistant, honestly. This specific situation is for my bedroom, but I don't see why this wouldn't be applicable for outdoors too.
I initially had the Tapo TC70 - this is like the cheapest cam they have, maybe like 70 bucks (MYR) or smtg? Even at that price, it has the full feature set you'd need like RTSP (for livestreams on HA), ONVIF for motion detection notifications/triggers, and PTZ for controlling the camera (L,R,U,D). Its detection is more basic - Human and Motion, but it's completely local. It has other nice features like local recording to SD card/hub (tho I don't have the hub so I won't expand on that), and media sync, which is useful for syncing recordings it has on the SD card to my Home Assistant's media storage (which is on my #NAS). Everything works perfectly even with this cheap camera. I also never had any complaints about its 1080p footage. I initially used this as like the general 'catch-all' camera for my room to see what goes on room-wide and where my cats are when I'm away.
Then I got the Tapo C425 - a much more expensive camera than the TC70. The camera quality's amazing, the magnetic mount is perfect (same as the outdoor Eufy cams I have), it too has local recording and media sync feature. I bought this bcos I initially didn't have a power outlet at the location I wanted to use this for, and this cam is battery/solar powered that's rated for '300 days on batt'. I then learned how much features you're losing out, Home Assistant-wise, if you wish to use a battery-powered cam. No RTSP, so no live streams - only snapshots on HA. No ONVIF, so I had to rely on the media sync as the trigger for motion detection notifs (i.e. when a new footage gets synced to my NAS = a motion detection occurred). Continuous recording's also not an option. It has the spotlight/sensor to be able to capture dark scenes in colour tho, which was nice and important for me, as I planned to use this to capture my cat's litter box and monitor his stool. The battery sucks ass tho, perhaps bcos of how I was integrating it to HA - cos it only lasted me 4 days from full charge. -
Eufy app just did a Microsoft upgrade, no new features just moved all functionality and menus around.
Thank you, now I find no settings again

I think #Eufy cams have finally stopped working on #HomeAssistant due to their major backend overhaul? Supposedly there will be a new integration to support that in the works but I don't know where one could track this?

Got a cheap #Tapo/#TP-Link cam to monitor Mocha (my cat) and I’m so bloody surprised how easy it is to integrate into #HomeAssistant. Only a single Tapo integration needed to be installed thru #HACS. It’s so much fucking trouble to add my #Eufy cameras which costs more than 5x each. Fuck Eufy/#Anker, honestly. Trash company.

In the ongoing drama with #eufy "security" cameras, I've had to silence all notifications due to the obnoxious false alerts. No, eufy, a bush that never moves is not a human. Now they're taking away a feature I paid for because they can with impunity. I can no longer record quick responses to play when someone is at the door. I guess the old farts who implemented the feature were replaced by an AI agent that can't figure it out, so it's deleting it.
Eufy is offering me 20% off when I buy more.🤣

iMagazine 6/2026 – szybkość…
Czerwiec w świecie Apple oznacza jedno – WWDC. Odpowiedzi poznamy niebawem.
Szczególnie zapraszam do przeczytania mojego tekstu o sztucznej inteligencji. To felieton, do którego zbierałem się bardzo długo. Bo prawda jest taka, że nie boję się AI. Boję się tego, co z nią zrobimy.
Miłej lektury!

I've a somewhat bad luck with picking a brand that is highly recommended, even if they cost more at times compared to the competition, and end up discovering they're shitty literally so soon after my purchase.
That happened with #Anker 's #Eufy, and it happened with #BambuLabs. For the latter, it seems that they're continuing their bullshit crusade against people freaking owning their #3Dprinters they paid for - including by hunting down #FOSS devs/projects that allow people to print stuffs on their printers without being spied on by Bambu Labs.
Seriously, fuck these brands and vote with your wallet. Also, if you've always been paranoid of American brands, don't forget to do so with Chinese brands too. You're a fool if you a think they're any better.
